Sunday Link-Off: Fauxcoming Weekend

This weekend was “Fauxcoming” at Queen’s University which is a student initiated replacement for proper Homecoming. In fact, it’s an idea that we championed on the radio show to protest the end of Homecoming. Anyway, Neate Sager takes an in-depth look at Homecoming and the issues around it. (The CIS Blog)

The Queen’s Journal also had a live blog of the Fauxcoming party on Aberdeen Street. Am I the only one that thought a car being flipped was just a case of “boys will be boys”? The guy got an insurance payout and a donation from the students. He benefitted from that. (Queen’s Journal)

Entertainment Link-Off: Anyone Can Happen

eliza-dushku-dichen-lachman-01After a week hiatus, I’m back! Hopefully Steve’s Entertainment Link-Off wasn’t too painful to read. This week, let’s shift the focus back onto entertainment related topics only. Yesterday marked the return of Dollhouse on FOX. After seeing Epitaph One, I was totally pumped for the season premiere. I wasn’t expecting the show to return due to its anemic ratings, but sometimes TV miracles can happen (hurray for budget cuts). If you aren’t watching the show… what’s wrong with you? Dichen Lachman and Eliza Duskhu (pictured) should be good enough reasons to tune in.

Wednesday Link-Off: Very Lively

Blake Lively was the star of this past Sunday’s Emmys. That red dress has launched her into the realm of the A-list celeb.

Former Russian President Boris Yeltzin was notorious for his love of alcohol. It wasn’t just at home that he loved to drink. Bill Clinton’s empty liquor cabinet can attest to that. (Daily Telegraph)

You can say a lot of things about Oregon Ducks football coach Chip Kelly. One thing you can’t say is that he isn’t a class act. A fan demanded his money back from his trip to a bad road game and Kelly sent the man a cheque. (EDSBS)

Entertainment Link-Off: Break Glass In Case of Emergency

megan-fox-rs09-6Clearly Jackie had too much to drink last night because he’s still passed out or hung over so he isn’t here this weekend. I’m here to save the day and so is Megan Fox.

We had to put up with crap TV because of the writers strike and now we find out that Universal won’t be developing any more projects until 2010. (Variety)

The Emmys are tonight. While I won’t be watching, lots of people will just to see how they do in their Emmy pools. But I find pools to be boring, if you’re going to guess winners, maybe you should put your money where your mouth is. Fortunately, I’ve dug up some odds on tonight’s winners. (Sports Interaction)

Saturday Link-Off: Things We Like

EA Sports’ latest iteration of the NHL series came out on Tuesday (with Patrick “20 Cent” Kane on the cover). We haven’t been sent a copy of the game to review so we’ll have to trust this in-depth review for details. (Down Goes Brown)

Wednesday Link-Off: WOW!

Bill Simmons is on my daily “Must Listen” list. Sadly, while listening to the Subway Fresh Take Hotline, I’ll miss his Miller Lite Great Call of the Week. (Slate) By the way, we have a radio show (slash podcast) that is offering cheap advertising opportunities though I can’t technically sell ad time. I can sell ad time and naming rights to Lowdown Extra, though.

Folks that know me know that I’m a huge Michigan Wolverines fan. If the big win over Notre Dame wasn’t big enough, it was even sweeter when I found out what Tate Forcier’s big concern was before the game. (Sports Illustrated)

Entertainment Link-Off: Another One Bites the Dust

jamie chung 1This weekend at the box office is the battle of the eye candy (and maybe slasher flicks). First we have Kate Beckinsale starring in the Antarctic murder mystery Whiteout. Next up there’s Sorority Row, the remake of the 1983 horror movie The House on Sorority Row. Expect to see plenty of attractive ladies get chased and hacked by a hooded killer. Jamie Chung is part of the cast for this movie, but since she’s not the “leading girl”, I bet her character won’t make it out of this one.

Before I kick this off I would like to mention that DirecTV has announced the fourth season to Friday Night Lights will premiere on October 28th! Mark your calendars! Of course, if you’re still waiting for NBC to air it, don’t expect to get your weekly FNL fix until summer 2010.
