The 2015 Hottest Canadian Is…

Our second Hottest Canadian bracket ran three weeks instead of the four that we ran the original over but we also had more votes this time. After a successful run from 32, the one woman left standing at the end of the battle is…

2015 Hottest Canadian Final: Laura Vandervoort vs. Trish Stratus

Our second Hottest Canadian bracket has taken us from 32 of the hottest Canadian women in the world to 16 to 8 to 4 and now to the last two women standing. As was the case the last time, the favourites have fallen to the side and we are left with two underdogs battling to be crowned the hottest woman from Canada.

In one corner is retired seven-time women’s wrestling champion turned yoga guru Trish Stratus. In the other corner is actress Laura Vandervoort who is looking to join former Smallville castmate Kristin Kreuk who was our first Hottest Canadian champion.

Who will be crowned the Hottest Canadian of 2015?

2015 Hottest Canadian: Final Four

After two weeks of voting, the 2015 Hottest Canadian bracket has gone from 32 competitors to the final four. While the 2012 Hottest Canadian bracket had four actresses in the final four, this time, we have one actress, one former pro wrestler and two models. After three upsets in four matchups in the elite eight, will we have any more in the second-to-last round?

Voting will continue through to late Thursday with the Hottest Canadian grand final starting on Friday night and voting on that continuing through Monday night.

2015 Hottest Canadian: Shield & Prairies Regions – Sweet Sixteen

Tuesday night brings us the back half of the 2015 Hottest Canadian bracket’s Sweet Sixteen. Much like the Arctic and Maritime Regions, upsets were few and far between in the Shield and Prairies region. The 2012 runner-up, Evangeline Lilly, was the third #3 seed to fall victim to the #3 curse. Coincidentally, three #3 seeds fell in the first round of 2012’s bracket too. The Prairies Region also had our biggest upset with #2 seed Elisha Cuthbert falling to #7 Lindy Booth. We could see more upsets this round too.

Voting runs through Thursday night. On Friday, we kick-off the Elite Eight with the finals of each region.

2015 Hottest Canadian: Arctic & Maritime Regions – Sweet Sixteen

It’s the first day of the second round of the 2015 Hottest Canadian showdown. The original field of 32 has been cut in half to 16. The first half of our Sweet Sixteen shows that the 5/12 upset isn’t the only one you’ll see in a bracket. Both the Arctic and Maritimes regions had three of four high seeds go through. The ones that didn’t go through were the two #3 seeds which both fell victim to the #6 seeds. Will we see more upsets in the Round of 16?

Voting runs through Thursday night. On Friday, we kick-off the Elite Eight with the finals of each region.

Your Brain on Alcohol vs. Coffee (Infographic)

As I mentioned yesterday, we’re big fans of beer here at The Lowdown. More importantly, we’re even more habitual coffee drinkers. One of our biggest posts of all-time was our look at how alcohol affects your brain when it comes to heavy drinking and hangovers. Now, we look at things from the perspective of how alcohol and caffeine affect your brain before you’re too far gone to function.

2015 Hottest Canadian: Prairies Region – First Round

We’ve reached the final day of the first round of the 2015 Hottest Canadian bracket showdown. The final region is filled with rookies as four of the eight women in this bracket make their first appearance. It’s probably worth noting as well that the Prairies and Shield regions will close the polls on Monday. The Arctic and Maritime regions close a day earlier on Sunday. The day after those polls close, we’ll start the Sweet Sixteen round.

The Most Popular Beers in the World (Infographic)

If you’re a long-time fan of The Lowdown, you know that one of our favourite things is alcohol. That’s why we have so many alcohol-themed posts on the blog and drinking jokes on the podcast. So when I saw this look at what the most popular beers in the world in each country are, I knew that I had to post it on the blog and post it two days after St. Patrick’s Day. I kind of dropped the ball on that one. But it’s still a cool infographic and you might learn something about your country’s drinking habits. I certainly was surprised with Canada’s results.

2015 Hottest Canadian: Shield Region – First Round

Much like the Maritime Region of the bracket, the Shield Region of the 2015 Hottest Canadian bracket has some heavy hitters. Like yesterday’s region, the Shield Region’s top four seeds all went to the last Elite Eight. Unlike the Maritime Region, three of those women went on to the Final Four. We didn’t plan it out that way when we did the brackets but these last two regions sure did turn out to have some fun storylines.
