Wednesday Link-Off: Book It

tina-fey-emmys13-02Later today, we’ve post the link to this year’s Lowdown Hockey Pool. As always, it’s for bragging rights but who doesn’t like a little friendly competition. Anyway, it’s time for the link. Let’s start with Tina Fey who picked up an Emmy for 30 Rock earlier this week.

It’s not just the Democrats and economists who think that playing chicken with the debt ceiling is hurting the economy. Bush 42’s budget director thinks that political gamesmanship with the debt ceiling hurts the economy. (Washington Post)

Here’s a slightly heartwarming story about a gunman in the Kenyan shopping mall attack freeing a family after a four-year-old boy told him that he was a bad man. (The Independent)

The folks at the Louisville Courier-Journal clearly don’t watch The Newsroom because they printed a letter to the editor from a character using a direct quote from the show. (Mediaite)

Entertainment Link-Off: Dog Days of Summer

You know it’s the end of the summer when there are no new releases worth mentioning in theatres this weekend. Unless you feel like checking out the special edition of Avatar, perhaps it’s worth pointing out that Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is still in theatres at the moment! That’s why I’m starting this entry off with Ramona Flowers, I mean Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

After the jump M. Night Shyamalan pokes fun at himself, Jennifer Aniston makes desperate attention seeking move, Lex Luthor and Joker channel their inner Calvin and Hobbes, a look at the Tron-a-Sutra, some awesome Scott Pilgrim mashups and Ving Rhames wins the Best Actor Oscar. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: The Hunt Continues

The highly anticipated action/horror film Predators is finally out this weekend! Since the film only has one female star, let’s put some additional attention on her. Kicking off this week’s ELO is Alice Braga!

After the jump, more Predators related links, some awesome Tron Legacy tribute videos, Christopher Nolan wants to reboot Bond, a love song for cancelled TV shows and a special version of Twilight just for guys. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Won’t Get Fooled Again

Welcome back to an increasingly rare feature on the blog. It’s another edition of The Humanoids. I’d call it our signature piece here but more people come by to ogle the women in the Link-Off posts than read this. Actually, if I didn’t know better, I’d say our blog is a glorified picture book. Mind you, my post last week on reasons to love Canada sure didn’t help. And why is the most popular post of the week an April Fools’ story. Should people not be tricked by it three months on? Granted this week’s Humanoids targets have pulled the wool over our eyes so maybe that’s appropriate. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Break Glass In Case of Emergency

megan-fox-rs09-6Clearly Jackie had too much to drink last night because he’s still passed out or hung over so he isn’t here this weekend. I’m here to save the day and so is Megan Fox.

We had to put up with crap TV because of the writers strike and now we find out that Universal won’t be developing any more projects until 2010. (Variety)

The Emmys are tonight. While I won’t be watching, lots of people will just to see how they do in their Emmy pools. But I find pools to be boring, if you’re going to guess winners, maybe you should put your money where your mouth is. Fortunately, I’ve dug up some odds on tonight’s winners. (Sports Interaction)

TV season is about to kickoff in earnest on Monday. However, that doesn’t mean that a lot of people will be tuning in this year. (TV By The Numbers)

After the jump, more entertainment links, what to do with a chicken, and some sports stuff for good measure. Continue reading
