Sunday Link-Off: Happy Civic Holiday or Whatever

emmanuelle-chriqui-gq-3It’s a made up long weekend in Canada. Let’s celebrate with Canadian hotness icon Emmanuelle Chriqui.

Since EA Sports is sent us a copy of NCAA Football 10 to review, we thought we would take a refresher course in video game football etiquette. I know this is for Madden 10 but just substitute the Florida Gators for the Pats and it’ll work out. (Awesomely)

Speaking of etiquette, I don’t think it’s good form to be tasked with selling a soccer team and try to sell it on eBay. Even if it’s only in Britain’s League One. (BBC)

And keeping with etiquette, L.A. Lakers coach Phil Jackson is a stickler for it, especially during games. Just ask movie star Jonah Hill. (LA Times)

After the jump, it’s hard in the press for a pimp, news from the rink, and Raw is Shaq highlights. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Lost in Space

sienna millerAugust is finally here! While most of the summer blockbusters have already made it to a theatre near you, there are still a few more flicks that are prepping for release this month including G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The film does have quite the recognizable cast and features some nifty over-the-top action, so I’m really pumped about it. Plus, it also features a very bad-ass Sienna Miller as Baroness.

She was also on Top Gear last week during the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment. Don’t forget to check out the series 13 finale of Top Gear tomorrow night!

After the jump, new sci-fi show alert, Top Gear has Twitter (and so do we!), a look at Flynn’s Arcade and what Kevin Smith thinks of Twilight and its fans… Continue reading

The Humanoids: Leaving A Legacy

Legacy is fickle thing. So is my vocabulary seeing as I think a lot of things are fickle. You think you know what someone’s legacy will be but something happens that changes everything. I thought Michael Schumacher was overrated and a dirty driver but a few years without him made me realize how good a driver he actually was. Brett Favre was set to retire as a legend but tarnished his legacy with a trip to New York. There are some of my subjects today that haven’t set their legacy in stone yet. But is there such a thing as a legacy set in stone? Two controversial examples: 1) Steve McNair who was considered the toughest guy in the NFL but being shot by his mistress has tarnished him a bit in my eyes. Not as much as the circumstances surrounding 2) Chris Benoit who was one of the greatest technical wrestlers to set foot in the ring but he killed his wife and son before killing himself. The thing with these two is that they have tremendous professional legacies but could you ever think of them the same way (especially Benoit) as you did before they died.

Good news out of Lowdown HQ. We have one part of the Season 3 Premiere of The Lowdown radio show is in place. The kind folks at EA Sports have sent us a copy of NCAA Football 10 to review. We’ll have a preliminary review on the blog in the next couple of weeks. The big feature review will make on to our season premiere, currently scheduled on September 15th at 6:30 PM on 94.9FM CHRW in London, ON, and CHRWradio.com.

Anyway, The Humanoids will be going on hiatus next week. We’ll see what Jackie comes up with as a replacement. Maybe it’ll be the next big thing in blogging. And no, this has nothing to do with some guy on Twitter calling me a “st****** m*****f******” for not cheering the fact that Lewis Hamilton won the Hungarian Grand Prix. I’m still not sure what he was trying to call me. I would have guessed “stupid motherfucker” but I’m short a few letters. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe it’s “Stig’s coming! Fuck yay!” about Schumacher’s return. I’m thinking of making that edition of The Humanoids a NASCAR edition because I’m heading to the Michigan International Speedway to watch the good ol’ boys of the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. EA Sports Announces 2010 Music Lineup

Many gamers, including myself, look to the newest video games for the latest in great music and no one puts more effort into their game soundtracks than EA. I’m always looking at EA Sports’ latest games for music to use on The Lowdown radio show. However, this year marks a change in philosophy for EA’s music crew. This year, they’re mixing some great new music with some older classics. They’re also mixing songs from bigger acts with songs from some less known acts on all of their soundtracks. So, want to know what you expect to hear when you get in the game? Find the soundtracks to Madden 10, NHL 10, NBA Live 10, and FIFA 10 after the jump. Continue reading

Formula 1: Michael Schumacher to Race European GP

The holder of nearly every F1 record and seven-time Formula One world champion will return to F1. Michael Schumacher, one of the greatest of all time, will take Felipe Massa’s seat at Scuderia Ferrari for as long as needed for Massa to recover from injuries suffered during qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Wednesday Link-Off: Technological Disasters

megan-fox-gq2008-10We had a video a while back showing that Megan Fox was a CGI creation. Definitely the greatest use of advanced technology ever.

I wasn’t kidding when I said David Beckham was picking fights in his return to the LA Galaxy. A British tabloid hired a lip reader to prove that I was right. (News of the World)

How many times do I have to tell you that creating more advanced robots will only lead to disaster? A Japanese doom-bringer has created robots to throw baseballs and swing a bat. I can’t see how these skills could be used to take over mankind. (ABC/AP)

And I’m not the only one that thinks robots are going to kill us all. Even real scientists think that we’re creating mechanical monstrosities that will kill us all. (New York Times)

After the jump more on Erin Andrews, trouble for stick men and the greatest hole-in-one ever. Continue reading

Comic-Con 2009: Sunday Roundup

Sundays are usually a lot quieter than the previous days at Comic-Con. With most of the stuff out of the way, it’s time to focus on two CW shows Smallville and Supernatural. Wait… they both came from the WB back then… CW doesn’t deserve the credit. One show is long past its due date while the other is approaching its end (if the creator gets his way). Check out what happened at the panels after the jump. Continue reading

Comic-Con 2009: Saturday Roundup

WWE Raw Live Blog – July 27, 2009

Tonight’s WWE Monday Night Raw has one of those big event feels tonight. Last night’s pay-per-view, Night of Champions, left us with a controversial finish to the WWE Title between Randy Orton, HHH, and John Cena that saw Orton retain despite tapping out during the match. You know that will spill over to tonight’s show which means it falls into the (large) hands of tonight’s guest host. Shaquille O’Neal will be the guest host for tonight’s edition of Raw and you that the man formerly known as The Big Cactus will have a big impact on tonight’s show.

We’ll be live blogging tonight’s edition of Raw starting at 9:00PM with the preview show. Raw kicks off at 9:15PM. Continue reading

Comic-Con 2009: Friday Roundup

While the WB panel was busy promoting their latest batch of films on Friday, two other sci-fi TV shows took snagged a lot of attention. Cult-favourite Dollhouse wowed fans with the airing of Epitaph One + Q&A, while ABC’s Flash Forward officially welcomed a new addition to their cast. Continue reading
