Wednesday Link-Off: From The Top Rope

It’s time for another edition of the Wednesday links. Unusually, these are coming together at the last second. I need to start planning better. Maybe Rosie Huntington-Whiteley would appreciate that.

ESPN’s web great Bill Simmons remembers the great “Macho Man” Randy Savage. (ESPN)

And speaking of ESPN, the behind-the-scenes of ESPN book came out yesterday. Here’s a look at some of the feuds that we found out about because of the book. (USA Today)

This is the most important link of the day and maybe all-time. It’s a recipe for making Big Macs at home. (Caveman Circus)

After the jump, how to realign the NHL, the world’s freakiest Peter Cushing bust and Jose Bautista goes beast mode. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Late to the Party

Sorry about the delay in getting you the Sunday links. Yesterday, we taped a podcast though so maybe that’ll make up for it. In the meantime, here’s Cintia Dicker to kick off the links.

Let’s lead off with our tribute to wrestling legend Randy “Macho Man” Savage. We’ve linked it before but it’s still the greatest Macho Man photoshops on the web. (Where’s Randy Savage)

Gus Johnson has officially left CBS to get some feature airtime with Fox Sports. Can’t blame him for wanting to get closer to the top. (New York Times)

The Atlanta Thrashers are officially unofficially moving to Winnipeg to become the Necro-Jets. [That team nickname is a trademark of Steve Murray… I came up with that name.] But the NHL has a few other relocation locations in mind. (Down Goes Brown)

After the jump, those guys have all the fun, the only golf club you need and Randy Savage’s greatest match. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Those Guys Have All The Fun

I’m back to cover the Wednesday links after taking Sunday off. Let’s make up for my absence with Adriana Lima.

The ESPN book called Those Guys Have All The Fun drops next week. As a teaser, an excerpt about ex-SportsCenter anchor Keith Olbermann dropped early. (GQ)

Speaking of books, KSK and Deadspin’s Drew Magary has a novel dropping this August. Here’s an interview with the author/blogger about books/blogs… And swearing. They also talk about Drew swearing. (Son of Bold Venture)

Did you know it’s been 10 years since the XFL closed up shop? Here’s a look at how Vince McMahon’s foray into football influenced today’s NFL. (Sports Business Daily)

After the jump, the World Beard Championship, the best Bin Laden porn titles and the greatest Arnie lines. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Happy Halloween

In the Halloween spirit, here’s Kim Kardashian in her Princess Jasmine costume.

Who doesn’t love a good conspiracy theory? (Well, the Huffington Post unless it has to deal with autism and vaccinations.) Michael Rosenberg looks at some of the most famous conspiracy theories in sports. (Sports Illustrated)

On to a scary link. The most popular costumes for tonight’s big festivities (and parties over the last couple of days) are the cast members of Jersey Shore. (Wall Street Journal)

ESPN’s proper journalism show E:60 takes a look at a legal performance enhancer that is very common place: High-caffeine energy drink. (ESPN)

After the jump, Rent is Too Damn High: The Album, scary entertainment links, and a video. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: In Jeopardy

I haven’t watched the show yet but here’s Running Wilde’s Keri Russell.

Sports writer and blogger Jelisa Castrodale recently went on Jeopardy and proceeded to lay a beat down on a Jeopardy legend. Here’s her recap of the experience. (Out of Bounds)

Jose Bautista hit his 50th dinger of the year last week. The question remains: Is he clean? Well, here’s a far more intelligent examination of the situation than one Damien Cox will give you. (Joe Posnanski)

And your other fun baseball fact of the day: Before the Cubs had Steve Bartman, they had Al Bundy. (Slanch Report)

After the jump, ESPN’s new sideline reporter template, epic fan takedowns, and Cliff Clavin on Jeopardy. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Fail The King

I’ve been meaning to run this for a while but here’s Katy Perry from a recent issue of Esquire UK. I hope the US version was paying attention.

The big sports media story of the week was this Arash Markazi story about a night in the life of LeBron James in Las Vegas. (Google Docs)

Why was it such a big story, you might ask? Well, ESPN pulled the story from its website for the dumbest reason on record. (Deadspin) I’m actually shocked by this reason. I didn’t think that anyone from ESPN would pull their lips off LeBron’s ass long enough to dictate a statement.

Though that story might be the highlight of LeBron’s week. Here’s a hypothetical look of when LeBron meets up with Jay-Z for the first time since The Decision. (Food Court Lunch)

After the jump, profiles of a couple legends, a StarCraft II review, and a Bieber fail. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Back Story

The ESPYs were last week. They serve no purpose at all but we did get to see Brooklyn Decker. That’s got to count for something.

By now, I’m sure you’ve seen the double rainbow guy video. But did you know that the double rainbow guy is a former MMA fighter? (Out of Bounds)

Fans are really into some of the most inconsequential characters in the Star Wars universe. Here are 10 of those characters with back stories that aren’t the slightest bit necessary. (Topless Robot)

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was fined $100,000 for telling LeBron James where to stick it in that epic letter of his. Some Cleveland fans are taking it upon themselves to help their owner pay that fine. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

After the jump, some video game stories, douchebaggery at ESPN, and LeBron’s heel turn. Continue reading

The Humanoids: As The Puck Drops

It’s a late and abbreviated edition of The Humanoids this week. We’ve been busy with anything and everything Olympics related. While I admit that I was cynical coming to the Games, I’ve gotten swept up in Olympic fever and am prepping for the semi-final between our heroic Canadians and the dastardly Slovaks. They would be less dastardly and more dangerous if they were still Czechoslovakia but they broke up so it’s better for the rest of the hockey world. Anyway, most of today’s subjects are somehow related to Olympic hockey. Even the two that aren’t are sports folks because it’s a good week to be a sports fan… Unless you watch NBC. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Ending a Long Week

It’s been a long week. For some, it’s been a pretty good week. For others, they’re happy that its the weekend. Unless you’re the Toronto Maple Leafs or a fan of them. Either way, come Saturday night, you’re going to have to drink off some of the night’s memories.

Sorry for the lack of a long spiel up top. I’ve been swamped with real work and radio/blog work. The good news is that the next episode of the radio show is next week. It’s on Tuesday at 6:30PM EDT on radio in London, ON or online here. The next episode is all about The Beatles and zombies (and the usual assorted stuff). It’s easily my favourite episode of the new season and is easily on my Top 10 list of favourite episodes. Continue reading

The Humanoids: At Michigan International Speedway

As you’re reading this, I’m on the tail-end of my road trip to Michigan International Speedway for the Show Me The Carfax race weekend. I should be at the track in time for Nextel Cup qualifying which I might watch from the pits and spend the next two days there for the Nationwide and Nextel Cup Series races. I’ll have a full recap next week and I’ll be tweeting from the track every now and then. Anyway, since I’m going to be at the NASCAR weekend at MIS, I figured that I would make this edition of The Humanoids all about NASCAR.

Since I have a chance, here’s your obligatory Lowdown radio update. The latest segment on the show will be “The Worst of Music.” Jackie and I will find one new piece of music to declare as the worst of music. For example, the worst thing I’ve heard over the last few weeks would be Pitbull’s I Know You Want Me. It’s a mind-numbingly bad piece of music that makes Katy Perry listenable rather than just watchable. So this and “It Came From YouTube” are making for a cramped line-up as we creep up to the Season 3 Premiere on September 15th. Continue reading
