Entertainment Link-Off: Live My Life

This weekend at the box office, you can catch some Navy SEALs in action in Act of Valor. There’s also the comedy Wanderlust starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston. As alternative programming, Amanda Seyfried stars in the thriller Gone. Funny enough, only Wanderlust is currently carrying a fresh rating. Anyway, I’ll kick off this entry with Ms. Seyfried here.

After the jump, quite a few articles on the upcoming flick John Carter, MPAA got it wrong again, an alternate take on Ghost Rider, Star Wars porn is better than The Phantom Menace, Community returns, a bit more on Linsanity and new music from Far East Movement and Jason Chen. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: TV Timeout

Just so you know I haven’t forgotten our trademark set of early set of SI Swimsuit issue cover odds, here’s Chrissy Teigen. She’s definitely one of the 2013 front-runners.

The Simpsons just aired their 500th episode. They’ve been on air since 1989 but didn’t make a ratings splash until the famous 1992 episode called “Homer At The Bat.” Here’s the story behind the episode that gave Fox their first ratings win. (Deadspin)

With the NHL Trade Deadline next week, there’s an easy way to make yourself an NHL insider. Just follow the E.K.L.U.N.D. system. (On The Forecheck)

It’s only been a month since Versus switched to NBC Sports Network but so far the ratings are fairly abysmal. (Sports Business Journal)

After the jump, more sports TV news, why the Oscars will be wrong and selling a university in Australia is a snap. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Media Blitz

It was a big week for us at the blog last week. We had more people drop by this past week than in the whole month of January thanks to the SI Swimsuit Issue. So to celebrate, here’s one of my favourite SI Swimsuit models Cintia Dicker.

Craig James will indirectly feature in the new Friday Night Lights movie Jackie mentioned yesterday as it will parallel the Mike Leach story. But will the movie also feature a player’s father who creates his son’s entire career through his influence as a broadcaster like Craig James did? (Sports By Brooks)

Kate Upton has been doing the media rounds since making the SI Swimsuit cover. However, the media is treating her like she’s a blonde bimbo rather than an actual woman. (Midwest Sports Fans)

George Lucas’ daughter is a professional MMA fighter and is in a title match this weekend. Maybe she can kick everyone’s ass over Jar-Jar Binks. Actually, I’ll settle for kicking Jake Lloyd’s ass because he was worse than Jar-Jar. Yeah, I said it. Anakin was worse than Jar-Jar. (Sports Illustrated)

After the jump, the highest paid players of all-time, could Mass Effect make a great TV series, and Liam Neeson’s voice mail greeting. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Blaze of Glory

It’s a slew of rotten pictures at the theatres this weekend. First up is the comic book movie sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. So the first flick was terrible and the trailer for the second one looked a bit more promising but according to the critics, that is not the case. Who knew sequelitis could attack a bad film? There’s also the rom-com actioner This Means War starring Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. You can also catch Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort in the movie, so let’s start this off with her.

After the jump, the Friday Night Lights movie kinda lives on for now, watch Abraham Lincoln kill vampires, a behind the scenes look at Harold and Kumar in claymation and Jeremy Lin shows you how to get into Harvard. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Valentine’s Hangover

Valentine’s Day is over and most guys are very much poorer as a result. Single guys, however, can pick up the pieces because they have money. Anyway, here’s Kate Upton from her SI Swimsuit cover shoot (like you guys would let us get away with anything else).

Jeremy Lin came to Canada last night to do battle with the Raptors. But just what is Linsanity? The New Yorker examines why he’s become an overnight sensation. (The New Yorker)

Mr. Hilary Duff Mike Comrie has announced that he is retiring after yet another hip surgery. It’s been an odd journey for the heir to a Canadian furniture store empire. (Puck Daddy)

The CBC has launched CBC Music which is a free streaming music service designed to compete with the Spotifys of the world. The third song I heard was Rush so I like it. (CBC News)

After the jump, the best WWE Raw of the year, Ahmed Best thinks Jar-Jar could’ve been loved and Commander Shepard is still alive. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: The Cold of Winter

Now that football season is over, we’re stuck in the middle of nothing right now. No good movies are going to come out for the next three months. We’re left with NBA to fill Sundays. And the racing season is still a couple of weeks away. But at least we have Reese Witherspoon to warm things up here.

The legendary William Shatner is bringing his one-man show to Broadway. He talked to Rolling Stone about his new show but sadly didn’t sing… yet. (Rolling Stone)

The FBI released their file on Apple founder Steve Jobs. It turns out that a lot of the man’s supposed friends thought he was a bit of a crook. (Gawker)

George Lucas just doesn’t get it any more. He says that Greedo always shot first but it was confused because of close-ups in the 1977 version. (Badass Digest) Not only does he not grasp dialogue but he doesn’t really understand his own characters. Now Han isn’t a badass but lucky that Greedo is the worst shot in the galaxy.

After the jump, why the Nielsen ratings system is broken, more Phantom Menace stuff and how to really remove ads from YouTube videos. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: S.A.D.

In theatres this weekend, there’s the sequel to the 3D schlock-fest Journey to the Center of the Earth titled Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Instead of having Brendan Fraser in the leader, Dwayne Johnson has taken over this time around. There’s also the CIA action thriller Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. And finally, just in time for Singles Awareness Day… I mean Valentine’s Day, there’s the romance drama The Vow starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. Oh what the heck, let’s start this ELO with the Canadian leading lady shall we?

After the jump, a few new movie trailers to check out (including Spidey), Dwayne Johnson wants to be president, watch Superman and Batman discuss social media and new music videos from the cast of New Girl as well as Joseph Vincent and Lights. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Super Wednesday

It’s the middle of the week which means it’s time for some more links. After yesterday’s Swimsuit Issue post, it’s only appropriate that I lead off with Canadian actress Jessica Pare. I figured I should mix things up.

CNBC sports business reporter was in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl. He also demonstrated his inexplicably large ego and poor judgement when he blasted the Playboy Playmates at Playboy’s party on Twitter. Then everyone fought back. (The Big Lead)

And if you think Rovell is bad at the Playboy Party, you should see him at the dry cleaner. (Food Court Lunch)

Also of note from the Super Bowl is MIA inexplicably flipping off the camera. But just how did the middle finger become such a profane gesture. (BBC)

After the jump, football’s new power couple, Apple’s not-so-private security force and Kimmel’s Super Bowl experiment. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Super Sunday

It’s not just any Sunday today. It’s Super Bowl Sunday. That means we’re going to waste over ten hours watching pre-game, actual game, halftime and post-game coverage of a football game. It all seems to be a bit of a waste, doesn’t it? Anyway, let’s kick off the links with alleged former NFL WAG Kate Upton. She almost admitted to having that fling with Sanchez. We’ll all have the last laugh because he’ll be out of the league when his contract with the Jets expires.

Since it’s Super Bowl Sunday, why not feature a breakdown of which championship trophies are the best. (GQ)

Daulerio may have left Deadspin but that doesn’t mean his contributing his classic Daulerio-esque stories after the fact. This week, he brought us the tale of one of Yankees GM Brian Cashman’s mistresses. (Deadspin)

The US would like to remind you that they’ve declared themselves supreme rulers of the internet. They’ve spent the last week shutting down sports streaming websites. (Sports Grid)

After the jump, more on the Super Bowl, a look at horrible reality TV and Bill Murray does Letterman while wearing a Giants jersey. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: With Great Power…

At the box office this weekend, there’s the found-footage flick about teenagers with superpowers in Chronicle. There’s also a solid ghost movie The Woman in Black starring Harry… I mean Daniel Radcliffe. Finally, there’s the family flick Big Miracle. Nothing particularly special about that one, but at least Kristen Bell is in it!

After the jump, a bit more on Chronicle, a brand new trailer for The Hunger Games, Katy Perry wants to do a 3D concert film and a whole bunch of Youtube videos including a look at the death of Superman, the new Volkswagon Superbowl spot, The Rock playing a ukelele, the definition of “swog” and a new web series from Wong Fu Productions. Continue reading
