Worst of Music: Britney Spears – Gasoline

I don’t understand why musicians have to release half of their latest albums as singles especially if nobody really cares after the second or third one. And yet, here we are talking about the fifth single from the latest Britney Spears comeback album. With Rihanna’s rise to fame based on sex appeal, Britney is going back to that well with the entendre -laden song Gasoline. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Back to December

No wide releases at the box office this weekend so it’ll be the same old battle between sparkling vampires and Muppets for the top spot. Anyway, just gonna kick off the latest ELO with Korean pop star (and also fellow Canadian) G.NA.

After the jump, have a look at the new trailer for the sci-fi epic John Carter, Universal Studios is closing Jaws, another Harry Potter theme park may be on its way, the Prometheus trailer leak made everyone but the FOX Films CEO happy, Hanson releases their own beer and William Shatner takes on Carrie Fisher. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Justin Bieber – Mistletoe

What happens when someone tries to create their own brand-new Christmas classic? An absolute disaster. Almost nothing comes out worse than an artist trying to make a quick buck with a Christmas album and those efforts get exponentially worse when releasing a brand new Christmas song. No one has been immune from this for at least the last 20 years. That includes Justin Bieber’s new song Mistletoe. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Closer Than You Think

After several weeks of rotten films hitting the screen at the theatres, it’s rather refreshing to see three fresh films debuting at the box office this weekend. Topping the critically applauded films is The Muppers starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams. I figured it would be appropriate to start off with the leading actress from the film no?

After the jump, Nolan talks The Dark Knight, best Save Community posters, 3D conversion of old films is the rage, Twilight is still bad for you, Ah-nold gives the best audio commentary ever in Total Recall and Chuck Norris is now kicking ass in the World of Warcraft. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Jessica Lowndes – I Wish I Was Gay

Today in learning something new everyday: I didn’t know that Jessica Lowndes was a singer as well as an actress. She’s not that bad a singer, even if she sounds a bit generic. So how does she try to make a splash in the music industry? By releasing a single that does a slight callback to Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl in order to gain popularity and notoriety through implied lesbianism. That’s the idea behind her single I Wish I Was Gay. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Defanged

The big news this week isn’t what’s hitting theatres this weekend, it’s NBC’s midseason schedule fail! With the brilliant comedy Community left off the schedule, many fans are worried about the show’s future prospects. So, let’s kick off this week’s ELO with one of the show’s stars Alison Brie.

After the jump, a few more tidbits on Community, Edward fails as a vampire in Twilight, some Muppets related videos, Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets an interesting date request and a new music video from Youtuber Jason Chen. Continue reading

NewsRadio: The Complete Series

The plight of Community reminds me of what happened to another critically acclaimed but low-rated NBC sitcom. The classic NBC sitcom NewsRadio was a critical success but never found a steady audience because it moved timeslots 11 times over only five seasons. Despite falling short of the old magic threshold of 100 episodes, it did find legs as a syndicated show but seems to have largely disappeared off the face of the earth. Fortunately, there is a little thing called the internet.

So that title is not wrong. We have all 97 episodes of NewsRadio after the jump. Continue reading

Saving NBC’s Community: Phase One – Occupy

At the risk of sounding like I’m completely biased in this fight (which I am), those bastards at NBC are screwing us again. They’ve pulled Community from the mid-season schedule. While they say that the show hasn’t been cancelled, we can’t take this as an indication that the show won’t be cancelled. Industry insiders seem reasonably calm that the show will survive for another season because a fourth season will make it eligible to be syndicated which both NBC and Sony (Community’s studio) would benefit from.

I think it’s time we launch a pre-emptive strike to save one of the best shows on television. After all, similar fan campaigns have saved shows like Friday Night Lights. However, this needs a multi-pronged attack in order to ensure that our voices are heard. Phase One of our campaign to save Community is called Occupy. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Drake – Headlines

I’ve never listened to this Drake guy or seen him reach the top ten of the Billboard charts. He is apparently popular enough to get regular mentions from the folks that we follow on Twitter with @LowdownBlog. He’s even popular enough to be featured in a commercial for NBA 2K12 where he showed his colours as a frontrunner and clueless about basketball by saying the 2010-11 Miami Heat was the best team of all-time. Well, it turns out he’s as good as music as he is at basketball history with his latest single Headlines. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Like Crazy

Well I’m back to write up another edition of the Entertainment Link-Off. Steve is probably glad he doesn’t have to throw in something last minute again. Anyway, there’s a handful of surprisingly rotten films this weekend at the box office. There’s the visual extravaganza The Immortals starring future Superman Henry Cavill. Also, there’s another Leonardo Dicaprio’s attempt at an Oscar (more on that later) in J. Edgar. Since I missed the release of Like Crazy from last week, I thought I just ignore the films this weekend and kick things off with British actress Felicity Jones.

After the jump, a few movie trailers to take a look at, the crew behind Harold and Kumar seem to do a lot of crazy things behind the scenes, movie posters all look the same, Strombo interviews Kermit the Frog and the Wonder Girls are back with a new music video! Continue reading
