I’ve never listened to this Drake guy or seen him reach the top ten of the Billboard charts. He is apparently popular enough to get regular mentions from the folks that we follow on Twitter with @LowdownBlog. He’s even popular enough to be featured in a commercial for NBA 2K12 where he showed his colours as a frontrunner and clueless about basketball by saying the 2010-11 Miami Heat was the best team of all-time. Well, it turns out he’s as good as music as he is at basketball history with his latest single Headlines.
On several occasions, I’ve noted how autotune is destroying music by allowing anyone to be a singer/rapper/whatever because the computer can get them singing in tune or with a beat with absolutely no talent necessary. I thought this Drake guy was supposed to be a decent rapper but instead he’s using autotune as a crutch to make the song. If you can’t rap, don’t use autotune to make you a rapper. It’s painful to listen to. The song itself isn’t much better. It’s very flat and the lyrics don’t make much sense if you can make heads or tails of it past the autotune. This is a song that will do a very good job of putting you to sleep but not much else.
So congrats, Drake. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.

You didn’t actually read the article, did you? Drake can rap but he didn’t here. The lack of effort in this song is the problem. There’s no “hating” but a legitimate criticism of the use of autotune as a crutch in this particular song as autotune is the musical fad of the moment.
And comment with your real name next time. Calling yourself Drake and claiming his website as your own is juvenile.
