Wednesday Link-Off: Gonna Be A Man In Motion

I have no idea who Katrina Bowden is but she’s in 30 Rock and it’s back this week so I figured it would be appropriate to lead off this post with her. I should have used a Denver Broncos cheerleader…

Dustin Penner is out with back problems. He injured himself while eating pancakes. No, I’m not making that up. (Puck Daddy)

Jerry Sandusky’s autobiography wasn’t just unfortunately named but it was unfortunately written. The book led police to more of his victim. (Deadspin)

Just in time for this weekend’s divisional playoff games, it’s a collection of Aaron Rodgers photobombing team pictures. (Aaron Rodgers Photobombs)

After the jump, the mayor of Hinchtown has a new job, Ron Swanson is a writer and Tim Tebow’s Fire! Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Power and Politics

It’s time for the return of the Sunday links after a three-week hiatus. To make up for the absence, here’s Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski. Maybe the show would’ve had better ratings if she did more photoshoots like this before the fifth and final season.

If you’ve ever wondered why it seems as though American political coverage has gone a bit overboard, we finally know who to blame. Political coverage is following the lead of sports coverage. (The Atlantic)

The Black Keys think Nickelback sucks. I knew there was a reason I liked these guys. (Uproxx)

It was AJ Daulerio’s final week at Deadspin last week. That meant that he got a classically Deadspin-esque roast sendoff. And he’s been roasted by the likes of Leitch, Magary, Scott Van Pelt and more. Sadly, no Brett Favre. (Deadspin)

After the jump, the latest on SOPA, a new player in gaming media and a new and better candidate for President. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Saturday In The Park

It’s a quiet weekend in Hollywood. The only movies coming out this weekend are either on the small side or just plain awful. The Devil Inside had the biggest Friday box office this weekend but it’s probably not worth watching. The next three weeks make up for that with at least a couple big movies opening each weekend. But the surprisingly good Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol with Paula Patton is still #2 at the box office.

After the jump, another quick look back at 2011, the latest on some upcoming big releases, Barney Stinson actually goes on The Price Is Right and a real-life Ron Burgandy moment. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Game On

Normally, we have a policy about not running candid photos on the blog but it’s quite clear that Maria Menounos is posing in this photo so I can post it here.

The NHL’s 2010-11 ticket revenue figures leaked online this week. The rankings are actually sort of surprising but make sense when you think about it. (MC79Hockey)

What happens when a video game hardware company outsources customer relations to a PR company that should know what it’s doing? A complete customer service and PR disaster. (Penny Arcade)

Keeping with video games, they may be moving to a purely digital format sometime in the future but they’re on discs for now. So just how are they made? (1up)

After the jump, the NHL’s New Year’s party, some video game stories and F. U. Knighted Airlines. Continue reading

NewsRadio: The Complete Series

The plight of Community reminds me of what happened to another critically acclaimed but low-rated NBC sitcom. The classic NBC sitcom NewsRadio was a critical success but never found a steady audience because it moved timeslots 11 times over only five seasons. Despite falling short of the old magic threshold of 100 episodes, it did find legs as a syndicated show but seems to have largely disappeared off the face of the earth. Fortunately, there is a little thing called the internet.

So that title is not wrong. We have all 97 episodes of NewsRadio after the jump. Continue reading

Saving NBC’s Community: Phase One – Occupy

At the risk of sounding like I’m completely biased in this fight (which I am), those bastards at NBC are screwing us again. They’ve pulled Community from the mid-season schedule. While they say that the show hasn’t been cancelled, we can’t take this as an indication that the show won’t be cancelled. Industry insiders seem reasonably calm that the show will survive for another season because a fourth season will make it eligible to be syndicated which both NBC and Sony (Community’s studio) would benefit from.

I think it’s time we launch a pre-emptive strike to save one of the best shows on television. After all, similar fan campaigns have saved shows like Friday Night Lights. However, this needs a multi-pronged attack in order to ensure that our voices are heard. Phase One of our campaign to save Community is called Occupy. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: A Train Wreck

I’ve drawn in to cover the entertainment beat for Jackie this week. Unfortunately for you guys, I didn’t remember until this morning that I was supposed to do this post. Anyway, Jackie would normally start by talking about this weekend’s new movies but your options are Tower Heist which looks Razzie-worthy and Harold and Kumar 3D which looks awesome. Unfortunately for the ladies, I’m not going to lead this post off with the great NPH. So let’s kickoff with the leading lady of last week’s big release, The Rum Diary, Amber Heard.

Today in ridiculously odd and disturbing celebrity news, the A-List director who masturbated while eating shrimp in front of Olivia Munn that she noted in her autobiography came forward. It’s the intelligence destroying Brett Ratner. (Film Drunk)

After the jump, career ending performances, Eddie Murphy’s career arc and Trebek tells you to suck on it. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Halloween Hangover

Halloween’s over for another year and it was a bit more interesting than usual. Anyway, let’s kick off the first linkdump written on the new layout with new Guess model Julia Lescova.

The 1% might say that they’ve earned their wealth but they sure aren’t doing anything to earn themselves any sympathy. For example, a law firm’s Halloween party featured all employees dressed as the recently foreclosed. (New York Times)

One of the best Halloween traditions is the annual Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors special. Here is a ranking of all segments over the last 22 years. (SplitSider) Really, any from Treehouse V could’ve been #1 so this is one of the seldom seen good choices for #1.

Shaq has a new book coming out soon. Some of the released excerpts explain why he and Kobe hate each other. (Deadspin)

After the jump, Kim and Kris are no more, more leftover Halloween links and the FNL Emmy trailer. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: All Hallows’ Eve Eve

It’s Sunday and we have a new look on the blog. It’s also the day before Halloween. So, naturally, we’ve got someone dressed up in a costume as we’re wont to do on the link-off before Halloween. Today, it’s Candice Swanepoel dressed as the devil. Cliché yet amazing.

Did you know there’s such a thing as professional mini-golf? There are professional tours, major championships and even The Masters. (The Daily)

Speaking of odd ways to make money, marketers are trying underhanded ways of paying bloggers for money. They’re paying bloggers to drop links subtly into their articles. (Gawker)

The NBA lockout isn’t quite as over as the media was hoping it would be at this point. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t basketball stories coming out. A new study has shown that there is such a thing as the hot hand in basketball. (Mind Hacks)

After the jump, Kim Kardashian’s marriage may be a complete sham, Sherlock Holmes is making a comeback and a Halloween light show. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Cancelled

Since I made such a big deal about the misguided “morality” behind the recent cancellation of The Playboy Club, here’s TPC star Amber Heard. I don’t think she’ll be unemployed for too long.

Well, shit has hit the fan in Boston. The Boston Globe has written an expose about the ills of the 2011 Boston Red Sox and why it cost them a playoff spot. (Deadspin)

The NBA could cancel the whole season if David Stern thinks progress hasn’t been made in negotiations this weekend. That would a lot fast a cancellation than the NHL’s cancellation which is on this list of the 10 most significant sports strikes/lockouts. (Midwest Sports Fans)

Not even Google’s employees like Google Plus. One publicly posted on his G+ account about how G+ was an afterthought by the executives. (Gizmodo)

After the jump, how to fix The Simpsons, Portal 2 had a unique original concept and Shanaban’s about to start handing out suspensions. Continue reading
