Entertainment Link-Off: Mars Attack!

After spending decades in the works, John Carter has finally made it to the big screen this weekend. Sadly tracking has been a bit low and it looks like it will be a box office flop. It’s rather unfortunate since it is a solid film despite minor pacing issues and spotty dialogue at times. The visuals, the story and the acting can make up for whatever flaws the film has. Plus, there’s Lynn Collins in it! That should be a definite plus! (And c’mon, support your fellow Canadian Taylor “Riggins” Kitsch of FNL fame).

After the jump, Terra Nova got canned, The Simpsons tackles Game of Thrones, the return of Community is near, a bit more on John Carter and check out a faux trailer for Where’s Waldo. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Paris Hilton – Drunk Text

What happens when you lay a track of lyrics read by a completely robotic sounding celebrity heiress slash sex tape starlet over an annoying electronic beat? You get this week’s edition of the Worst of Music. This week, the award goes to the woman who repopularized the celebrity sex tape in the 21st century, Paris Hilton, and her spoken word track Drunk Text. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Hug a Tree

It’s Saturday again, so it’s time for another edition of the Entertainment Link-Off. In theatres this weekend, there’s the kid friendly Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. On the other end of the spectrum, there’s the party-hard flick Project X. In other words, nothing noteworthy, so let’s start this edition of the ELO off with Charlize Theron. She’ll be appearing in Prometheus this summer and later in this entry, a new viral video related to the movie has hit the interwebs.

After the jump, The Lorax isn’t sticking to its environmentally friendly message, Adam Sandler smashed a Razzie record, the Oscars are on a downward spiral, showing a movie trailer can get you into the Phillippines (well only for Taylor Kitsch), Alec Baldwin shows no boundaries when hosting morning shows and new music recommendations courtesy of David Choi and Esther Lee! Good Eats: The Complete Series

One of my favourite cooking shows of all-time and one of the best cooking shows ever is Alton Brown’s Good Eats. The show takes a basic yet comprehensive approach to teaching you how to cook as Alton Brown shows you simple yet delicious ways to cook a different dish every week. He also examined cooking techniques, culinary history and selection and use of difference appliances.

So to help you figure out your menu for the weekend, we present you every episode of Good Eats. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Rihanna and Chris Brown – Birthday Cake (Remix)

For those of you hoping for my normal critique of what is wrong with today’s music industry will be disappointed today. Yes, I will be talking about the song but that’s not today’s focus. You see, this week’s Worst of Music song is a remix of Birthday Cake by Rihanna featuring Chris Brown. The history between those two is well documented but the problems with this song go well beyond the infamous incident of 2009. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Live My Life

This weekend at the box office, you can catch some Navy SEALs in action in Act of Valor. There’s also the comedy Wanderlust starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston. As alternative programming, Amanda Seyfried stars in the thriller Gone. Funny enough, only Wanderlust is currently carrying a fresh rating. Anyway, I’ll kick off this entry with Ms. Seyfried here.

After the jump, quite a few articles on the upcoming flick John Carter, MPAA got it wrong again, an alternate take on Ghost Rider, Star Wars porn is better than The Phantom Menace, Community returns, a bit more on Linsanity and new music from Far East Movement and Jason Chen. Continue reading

WWE Elimination Chamber 2012 Review

Between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 28, there is one very critical stop on the Road To WrestleMania. The annual Elimination Chamber pay-per-view determines the two world title holders heading into WrestleMania and helps sets the stage for the greatest spectacle in wrestling. After a lacklustre event in January at the Royal Rumble, could the WWE liven things up en route to the biggest show of the year? Continue reading

Worst of Music: The Cult vs. Flo Rida – She Sells Sanctuary

Before everyone gets really defensive, I’m not naming The Cult as this week’s Worst of Music. I’m also not naming Flo Rida the WoM winner either. This week’s winner is really Budweiser and their marketing department. While Bud usually gets praises from the advertising world for their Super Bowl ads, this year, they committed an atrocity on the music world by mashing up The Cult’s classic She Sells Sanctuary with Flo Rida’s Good Feeling. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Blaze of Glory

It’s a slew of rotten pictures at the theatres this weekend. First up is the comic book movie sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. So the first flick was terrible and the trailer for the second one looked a bit more promising but according to the critics, that is not the case. Who knew sequelitis could attack a bad film? There’s also the rom-com actioner This Means War starring Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. You can also catch Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort in the movie, so let’s start this off with her.

After the jump, the Friday Night Lights movie kinda lives on for now, watch Abraham Lincoln kill vampires, a behind the scenes look at Harold and Kumar in claymation and Jeremy Lin shows you how to get into Harvard. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: S.A.D.

In theatres this weekend, there’s the sequel to the 3D schlock-fest Journey to the Center of the Earth titled Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Instead of having Brendan Fraser in the leader, Dwayne Johnson has taken over this time around. There’s also the CIA action thriller Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. And finally, just in time for Singles Awareness Day… I mean Valentine’s Day, there’s the romance drama The Vow starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. Oh what the heck, let’s start this ELO with the Canadian leading lady shall we?

After the jump, a few new movie trailers to check out (including Spidey), Dwayne Johnson wants to be president, watch Superman and Batman discuss social media and new music videos from the cast of New Girl as well as Joseph Vincent and Lights. Continue reading
