Entertainment Link-Off: The Backup Plan

I’m doing the entertainment links for next couple of weeks. So to hold you over until regular service resumes here’s Amber Tamblyn who stars in 127 Hours which premieres this weekend. She also starts her guest stint on House this Monday.

In our last podcast, we tried and failed to figure out who really is “America’s Sweetheart.” Fortunately, we’re not the only one wondering something along those lines. A British columnist wants to know what happened to the girl next door. (The Independent)

After the jump, The Daily Show whips everyone’s candy asses, the return of GoldenEye, and a classic cartoon theme medley. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Kick It

Let’s kickoff this edition of the Wednesday links with old favourite Gina Carano.

This video has made the rounds on the internet but let’s lead off with it here. It’s the wild finish to Friday’s CFL game between Montreal and Toronto. (55-Yard Line)

The extensive and exhaustive pre-game shows of the NFL is what sets it apart from the CFL (among other things). However, most of the time, the hosts laugh like they’re high. (Wall Street Journal) Seriously, whoever voted against Prop 19 in California must watch the NFL on Fox pre-game show.

The NHL is trying to cut down on hits to the head. The German Hockey League? They’re trying to sell the game with gratuitous amounts of violence. (With Leather)

After the jump, golfers settling differences with swords, California vs. Video Games and How to be an NHL Defenceman. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Happy Halloween

In the Halloween spirit, here’s Kim Kardashian in her Princess Jasmine costume.

Who doesn’t love a good conspiracy theory? (Well, the Huffington Post unless it has to deal with autism and vaccinations.) Michael Rosenberg looks at some of the most famous conspiracy theories in sports. (Sports Illustrated)

On to a scary link. The most popular costumes for tonight’s big festivities (and parties over the last couple of days) are the cast members of Jersey Shore. (Wall Street Journal)

ESPN’s proper journalism show E:60 takes a look at a legal performance enhancer that is very common place: High-caffeine energy drink. (ESPN)

After the jump, Rent is Too Damn High: The Album, scary entertainment links, and a video. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: The Night Before Halloween

It’s near the end of October, so that means Halloween is here! While the usual horror fare hits the theatres this weekend, perhaps it’s a better alternative to just go party it up Halloween style or just simply go trick or treating. Kicking off this entry is Taylor Cole. You might remember her from the now defunct WB series Summerland. Anyway she’s currently in NBC’s The Event. The serialized drama is on a ratings freefall, but this is a good enough reason to keep the show on the air no?

After the jump more pumpkin ideas, behind the scenes on Scott Pilgrim, Disney thinks the old Tron movie is an embarrassment, the Fine Brothers spoil horror movies for you and see the Light Runner in action! Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: From Russia With Love

Here’s Russian not-so-super spy Anna Chapman. She’s looks like she’s straight from a Bond film.

Brock Lesnar lost the heavyweight title at UFC 3047 or something like that. But that wasn’t the big news. It looks like we’re coming close to Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker in a ring or octagon soon. (The Big Lead)

Now time for Dongslinger-ness. Favre has admitted to leaving the voicemails for Sterger but not sending the pics. There’s one problem with his stories… (Deadspin)

And in other athlete love stories (kinda), here’s GQ’s profile of Alex Ovechkin which includes Ovi and the intrepid writer hitting a club. (GQ)

After the jump, the NHL’s new slogan, a soon to be new NCAA sport, and Wrangler’s new open fly jeans. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: List-Off

Here’s Adriana Lima in a $2 million bra. She pulls off this look far better than Sue Ellen Mischke.

I hate to disappoint you but the legendary curveballs that fall off a table on the way to the plate are all optical illusions. (Wired)

Remember that camera that got shattered during Game 4 of the ALCS? I never saw a replay that showed what really happened. Fortunately, we have freeze frame to help us. (Big League Stew)

The NBA banned a shoe for enhancing player performance this week. All that did was send sales through the roof. But what made this thing so special? (Tauntr)

After the jump, Top Gear on US TV, the legend of James Hunt and Gordon Pinsent reads Bieber’s “memoirs.” Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: (Not) Full Frontal

Jump starting the latest edition of the Entertainment Link-Off is Dianna Agron from the latest GQ photoshoot. I suppose this fits with the Wednesday Link-Off when Steve featured Agron’s castmate Lea Michele.  After seeing these ‘provocative’ pictures, would you be tuning into the FOX musical comedy on Tuesday nights now?

After the jump, Zack Galifianakis got Galifianakis’ed, sneak peek at Kick Ass 2, Tron Legacy posters galore, Jessica Alba’s fake nude scene, more on the GQ Glee photoshoot that caused an uproar, great movie censoring moments on TV and a new music recommendation of the week. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Faking It

Glee was on last night according to Joe Buck. He didn’t mention that Lea Michele is one of the show’s few redeeming qualities.

Remember that Tiger Woods sex tape that no one believed was real? Turns out it’s not real. (Bob’s Blitz)

Suppose that fake Tiger Woods videos aren’t your thing. Maybe you’d rather watch this hilarious video of PGA golfer Ben Crane working out. (Sports By Brooks)

Fox Sports has done the world a favour by getting rid of their NASCAR theme. Unfortunately, they’ve also gotten rid of the baseball theme. (Fang’s Bites)

After the jump, the future of sports video games, the return of the GIF, and what Raps fans think of Hedo. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Wrath of the Dongslinger

Kicking off her first linkdump is Avril Lavigne. On behalf of Canada, I’m sorry for her music.

Now that the shock factor has worn off about Brett Favre’s dong pics, we have to wonder what the long-term impact of this story will be on journalism. (Sports Journalism)

Over the short-term, sports writers are ganging up on Favre and saying he should hang up his cleats and call it a career. That’s really just the status quo for sports columnists. (Slate)

And tangentially related to Favre, here’s a look behind the scenes of this week’s edition of Monday Night Football. (Star-Ledger)

After the jump, hockey awesomeness, old-time press failure and Favre getting hit by football. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit

Kicking off the latest Entertainment Link-Off is Lyndsy Fonseca. Yes, you’ve seen her in films like Kick Ass and Hot Tub Time Machine, but she also had the role of “the daughter” on How I Met Your Mother and is currently starring alongside Maggie Q on CW’s Nikita. While the spy show isn’t performing badly in CW standards, it could use a few more viewers.

After the jump, the Hulk returns to TV, Drive Angry 3D stuff, a hobbit reunion, a very good reason why you need to watch Chuck, troubles on the Transformers set, an explosive Conan promo and Abed from NBC’s Community delivers a baby. Continue reading
