Entertainment Link-Off: Splash or Splat!

UPDATE: The finale for Harper’s Island was appropriately titled “Sigh”. The limited-run series went out barely noticed as it snagged about 3.84 million viewers during its final two hours. It’s too bad. While the series itself was uneven (a mixed bag of great and mediocre moments), it was a fun thrill ride overall. I wasn’t thrilled with the ending, but it was satisfying. Kudos to CBS for airing all the episodes despite the lack of eyeballs tuning in. (TV by the Numbers)

Steve beat me to it and already featured Katie Cassidy in his Wednesday Link-Off. However, that doesn’t stop me from featuring her again in celebration of the Harper’s Island finale tonight at 9 p.m. on CBS. Most Canadian viewers may have already watched the finale on Thursday night, but to those who haven’t seen it or if you don’t have anything better to do tonight, just sit back and enjoy 2 hours worth of a fun slasher-fest.

I’m kicking this off with a non-entertainment news. Facebook users entering university watch out! There are fake university groups popping up because of those evil marketing companies! (The Toronto Star) Alright everyone, to be on the safe side, let’s all just go to the South Harmon Institute of Technology. We know that school is legit.

After the jump some movie news to tickle the moviebuffs, what James Franco’s UCLA commencement speech would have been like and things that will make a splash or fail miserably.

Entertainment Link-Off: It’s Saturday!

the saturdays 11The hottest UK girl group The Saturdays are in the middle of their first series of headline concerts “The Work Tour” right now. The tour also features newcomer supporting act Pixie Lott. Now that sounds like an amazing pop music experience! The physical release of The Saturdays’ latest single “Work” has finally hit the store shelves on Monday. The single has peaked at #30 on downloads alone. Can the girls finally get their first UK #1 hit?

The song is a fun track to listen to. If you missed it, you can see their hot music video here!

After the jump CW’s downward spiral continues, some movie news and Leighton Meester’s latest video (sorry guys, I’m -not- talking about this).

Entertainment Link-Off: I <3 Science Fiction!

isabel lucas 2Steve did a great job covering for me yesterday by moving his Sunday Link-Off a day early. I was supposed to sit in front of my computer and type this up yesterday, but turns out that I am a social animal after all. In celebration of the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, here is a picture of Isabel Lucas. Since Megan Fox tends to steal the spotlight everywhere, it’s be time to have the spotlight shifted to another sultry female cast member in the movie.

Speaking of the latest Transformers flick, don’t forget to check out my review here.

After the jump, mostly sci fi related news, why Heroes sucks and what is “Paul”?

Movie Review: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

transformers revenge of the fallen 2At last year’s Comic Con, there were t-shirts everywhere promoting Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen that had the slogan ”Bigger. F—ing. Robots” written on them. In the latest addition to the Transformers franchise, Michael Bay lived up to that promise. Revenge of the Fallen is bigger, louder, flashier and crazier than the first live action Transformers flick two years ago. However, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better and it seems like Revenge of the Fallen may already be suffering from sequelitis.

June 22nd Monday Night Raw Live Blog

Welcome to our second Monday Night Raw semi-live blog. Like our last live blog, we’ll be on a 15 minute delay because we’re watching Canadian TV. On tonight’s Raw, Donald Trump will hold court on the first Raw episode under his ownership. In his first act as Raw owner, Trump announced that tonight’s show will be commerical-free on the USA Network in America. Will the same hold true in Canada on The Score? We also have a big and likely bloody main event as Randy Orton will defend his WWE Title against Triple H in a Last Man Standing match. Anything can happen in the WWE, but will the same be said about Raw is Trump? Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Good Girls Go Bad!

escala 2

UPDATED: More Transformers related randomness. Also the identity of The Stig revealed?!

Tomorrow marks the 13th season premiere of Top Gear. Now I would go on and on about how great this show is, but I’m sure Steve does a fantastic job with that already. To tie you over to the premiere, I’ll get The Mole to get you pumped up for the big episode. (Top Gear)

You might think I would keep with the TG theme by having the picture of The Stig here, but I chose to go with something else that’s big over in the UK right now. Headlining this article is the hot new UK strings quartet Escala. Their debut album hits stores this Tuesday in North America, but should you head out to the music stores to grab a copy? More on that later.

After the jump more robots in disguise, some TV tidbits and a Gossip Girl gone wild. Continue reading

Has Vince McMahon Lost It?

If you haven’t heard the news, you’re probably better for it. Vince McMahon has sold Monday Night Raw to Donald Trump. That would make it the third consecutive summer that Vince and the WWE has tried to stave off the summer ratings slump by pulling a stunt that tries to get them mainstream attention. Chickenfoot Review

It’s not often that a new band releases its first album with as much hype and as big an advertising budget as Chickenfoot. Then again, not all bands have the former lead singer and the former bassist of Van Halen, the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s drummer, and a guitar legend. So you can understand why expectations are so high for this supergroup. And I review their debut album after the jump. Continue reading

Team Seattle Finishes 30th at Le Mans

Slow and steady may not have won the race for Patrick Dempsey and the #81 Team Seattle – Advanced Engineering Ferrari F430, but it did get them a solid performance. Dempsey and teammates Joe Foster and Don Kitch Jr. completed 301 laps over 24 hours to finish 9th in the GT2 class of 17 starters and 30th overall. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: A Fine Mess

kate voegele 3Alright, so I finally got my hands on Kate Voegele’s latest album “A Fine Mess” last weekend despite the fact that it came out in May. I might not the be the first one in line to pick up merchandise, but I do end up supporting the artists I like. This album has been on full rotation in my CD player all week. It truly is a fantastic record. More on that later on…

Before I jump into the entertainment articles, let’s start off with something tied into last night’s brilliant Stanley Cup playoff game. Damien Cox writes about the unsung heroes of the Stanley Cup winning squad. (The Toronto Star) Once again, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins for winning the cup.

After the jump, some TV scoop, lots of movie news and two celebrities that may have more in common than we thought.  Continue reading
