Lowdown Radio Preview: October 13, 2009

The third episode of The Lowdown’s 2009-2010 season is on air on Tuesday night. We’re putting up the preview early so that we don’t spring this on you while you’re half asleep from Monday’s turkey dinner. It’s even a sort of special show because it’s our 40th episode. The show starts with Steve and Jackie talking about Queen’s Fauxcoming and Western’s standing as a party school. In the news, the guys discuss dumb American rules/laws. In entertainment, Britney Spears makes her Lowdown debut on the worst in music and the guys review Zombieland. When the gears shift to sports, Jackie previews the rebuilt Toronto Raptors before joining Steve to answer questions as athletes in some sports Role Play. And we have the return of Barack to show for that.

The show goes live at around 6:30 PM Eastern. If you’re in the London, ON, listening area, you can listen live on 94.9 FM. You can also listen online at CHRWradio.com/listen.

Sex Tapes That Should Never See The Light Of Day

News leaked around this time last week that another celebrity sex tape was being shopped around to the various internet porn distributors. Unlike some of the more interesting sex tapes of recent years rumoured to be out there like Paris Hilton, Leighton Meester or Keeley Hazeel, this one was of Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel. It be pretty hard to think of sex tapes that would sell less copies than that. Hell, I think the number of illegal downloads would be minimal because no one would want to see that.

However, I don’t know if this is the last sex tape that the world needs to see, though it certainly is up there. There are other sex tapes that should never be made or be released for public consumption. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: The Deal Breaker

kate-beckinsale-esquire-4Here’s this week’s sexiest woman alive Kate Beckinsale.

The Phoenix Coyotes may be bankrupt but the news isn’t all bad for the NHL. They have the highest proportion of visitors making over $75,000 of any of the big four sports leagues. (Wall Street Journal)

How did Rio de Janeiro win the 2016 Olympics? The Governor of Tokyo says that political deal brokering earned them the votes they needed. (Around the Rings)

The Erin Andrews peephole videographer was arrested over the weekend. The FBI got a tip from TMZ that the man had tried to sell them the video. They’ve been sitting on that information since January and Deadspin’s A.J. Daulerio has been doing some sluthing. (Part 1, Part 2)

Not News of the Week

Another week, another dose of the weird, wacky, and wonderful news not fit for print. It’s time for the Not News of the Week.

A staple of American television is those high-speed police chase shows which usually end up badly for the suspect. However, a recent high-speed chase in Wyoming seemed more like something out of a Hollywood drama instead of reality. Last Wednesday morning, police were led on a 50 mile chase that reached speeds of 100 MPH. The chase ended relatively safely when the getaway car was cornered by police. It took another twist when the driver tried to escape on foot. When police caught the driver, they were shocked to find that the driver was an 11-year-old boy. An investigation is still ongoing. I assume one of the things they’re doing is trying to figure out how the kid reached the pedals. Continue reading

F1 Japanese GP: Domination Is Now Spelled “Vettel”

f1-japan-2009-vettel-parc-fermeWith the Drivers’ Championship within his reach, Jenson Button wasn’t able to close the deal at one of his best tracks. Likewise, Brawn GP fumbled their chance to lock up the Constructors Title in Japan. Despite having a pretty difficult weekend between their two teams, Red Bull was able to score a win with Sebastian Vettel taking the checkered flag from pole. Meanwhile, silly season is starting to pick up with Ferrari finally confirming their 2010 driver lineup. Continue reading

Saturday Link-Off: Sex and Candy

vanessa-hudgens-hayden-panettiereYou’re stuck with me again today. To make up for it, here are Vanessa Hudgens and Hayden Panettiere. Why am I suddenly thinking of that new Britney Spears song?

Apparently those giveaways that they hold in the Rogers Centre are all fake. (Deadspin)

There was a joke on an old episode of The Simpsons that went something like “Fox turned into a hardcore porn channel so gradually I didn’t even notice.” You can definitely see this on FoxSports.com. (The Big Lead)

ESPN has released the names of some athletes in “The Body Issue.” Highlights include Jessica Mendoza, Claire Bevilacqua, and Gina Carano. (USA Today)

After the jump, government workers watch porn at work, the Iron Sheik will make you humble, and how not to win a football game. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Fade To Black

It’s a slightly abbreviated version of The Humanoids today. I blame it largely on catching swine flu or something like that. Yeah, getting swine flu and blogging sounds reasonably tough for the internet. Let’s go with that. So as my time on earth apparently fades to black, so do many of our subjects today. Some have seen their careers come to an apparent end. Others are still going for the time being but you would have to imagine they’re in bad shape or are going to close up shop soon.

Speaking of things closing up shop soon, the radio show will be taping tonight. Why would the radio show be closing up shop soon? Well, there might be a change in plans/location for a host which could throw a wrench in the usual operations. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. We always manage to solve things at the last second. Anyway, on with the show. Continue reading

Top Gear Stunt Is Ambitious But Rubbish

james-may-flying-caravanA star of the hit British automotive TV show, Top Gear, escaped unharmed after another of the shows trademark stunts went wrong. James May was flying in a caravan being held aloft by a giant blimp-shaped balloon that formed a sort of airship. High winds pushed the airship off course and into some trees. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: I’ve Seen Better Days

eliza-dushku-complex-4I didn’t want to Dushku you out on Sunday but if you’re going to lead a link-dump with Eliza Dushku, this is how you’ve got to do it.

2009-10 NHL Preview: The Musical

The National Hockey League is gearing up for another season. This year, we’ve reached the fifth season since the lockout destroyed chances that the NHL could become a mainstream sport in America. That doesn’t mean that we can’t put together a big preview. Last year, we were going to use a song to preview each team’s season on the radio show but there were some small copyrights issues that would have cost us a lot of money. Doesn’t mean that we can’t do it online. Since, I want this to be a challenge, Carolina fans won’t see “Rock You Like A Hurricane” or any other play on words songs. Continue reading
