Top 10 Motorsports Temper Moments

A couple of weeks ago, TSN’s SportsCentre paid homage to Helio Castroneves’ blowup on Izod IndyCar officials at the Honda Edmonton Indy by running a list of the Top 10 meltdowns in sports. While it was entirely appropriate, the problem was that they ran the exact same top ten the week before. If they put in five minutes worth of effort into their segments, they would have found that there are loads of moments in motorsports history where people let their tempers get the best of them.

So to pay proper homage to Helio’s temper getting the best of him (and to tell TSN to bugger off), here is our Top 10 Motorsports Temper Blowup Moments. Continue reading

The Best of F My Life (Part 3)

It’s time for another part in our ongoing series in the best of the interweb that can help you through your day. (Well, the interweb that is outside of The Lowdown Blog.) For the third time, I take a look at some more of the best hilariously depressing stories of F My Life. It’s the best site to go to for stories that make your life seem just that little bit better because it could be so much worse. Wednesday Link-Off: Epic Exit

Here’s Sofia Vergara who stars in a show that I’ve never watched but probably should.

This week has been all about the epic ways that people have left their jobs. Monday, a Jet Blue steward went ballistic after his flight landed and had a monumental meltdown. (NBC New York)

Then Tuesday, we were introduced to Jenny who quit her job by emailing a series of 33 photos to her coworkers. (The Chive)

Mind you, there’s been some debate over whether Jenny is real or not. The men behind her photos on The Chive say she’s for real. (All Things Digital) After last year’s Trump stunt, can we believe them?

After the jump, a video game question, a trio of lists and a Lando movie. Continue reading

Lowdown Radio Classic: May 13, 2008

For this week’s classic episode of The Lowdown BlogCast, we turn the clocks back over two years. It was our first, and so far only, Lowdown of the Pops special. In this episode, Steve and Jackie play some great songs by bands that you’d likely never heard of before. Since we broadcast this, at least one of these bands has gotten a couple of breaks. Our music episode features musicians from Canada, America and England covering several genres from folk to rap to rock. Incidentally, this episode got the boys in trouble with their ex-broadcasters. Apparently playing any music during a talk show is a no-no.

Happy Madden 11 Day

Today is that other football-related unofficial national holiday. The day after the Super Bowl is an unofficial holiday so people can deal with their hangovers. The day that the new edition of Madden hits the shelves is the other unofficial holiday so people can play all day and win the Super Bowl. But for all the realism that EA Sports is shoving into Madden 11, they’re still doing things that make the game still feel like a video game. Continue reading

Not News of the Week

If it’s not worth talking about then it must be time for the Not News of the Week.

A recent international study says that the most foul-mouthed country in the world is Canada. The study showed that 56% of Canadians swear frequently or occasionally when talking with friends. In Britain, that number is 51% while the US brings up the rear with 46%. Also, nearly three-quarters of Canadians say they swear in front of their families compared to two-thirds of Americans and Brits. Apparently the worst offenders in Canada are the Quebecois. Basically, this survey is trying to disprove that typical Canadian stereotype of being overly polite but it’s entirely pointless and proves nothing. Fuck whoever came up with this idea. Sunday Link-Off: Pigskin Pickoff

For the second Sunday in a row, here’s Katy Perry. Those boys at Rolling Stone really do a good job.

Madden 11 is out this Tuesday. To get you ready for the next edition of the iconic franchise, here’s the history of the game from its start through today. (ESPN)

Regardless of whether he comes back or not, Brett Favre’s story would make a heck of a musical. Kinda like this. (New Yorker)

By the way, Terez Owens claims to have a source that says Jenn Sterger made up the Favre text story to get famous and Deadspin ran the story for page views. (Terez Owens) So running a story completely the opposite of Deadspin and loaded with Sterger pics is run solely out of the goodness of his heart?

After the jump, the science of booty calls, Darth Schwarzenegger, and the best games of the year so far. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Dance Like No One’s Watching

It’s the first weekend of August and the summer movies are starting to come to an end. This weekend there’s the dance movie franchise with declining popularity with Step Up 3D starring Aussie actress Sharni Vinson. The Step Up flicks aren’t that great plot-wise, but they fun to check out. However, I think the buddy cop comedy The Other Guys seem to be tracking better and is generating a lot more laughter as well. Plus, how can you not like a film with a loaded cast of Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Sam Jackson and Dwayne Johnson?

After the jump a lot of new Scott Pilgrim promo stuff to check out, the characters of Inception doesn’t quite get inception, Little Fockers is a little focked and Eva Mendes’ sex tape! Continue reading

The Humanoids: Comeback Kids

This week’s edition of The Humanoids is about all those folks who are coming back into the public eye after some time away or are getting over some minor issues (like prison). For a couple of these folks, we don’t mind seeing them get back in the game. As for Brett Favre, we wish he’d just go away. His comeback isn’t such a welcome thing but his latest saga brought a couple of our favourites out of the woodwork. You’d know all about that from yesterday’s Favre-themed linkdump. Don’t worry, there’s lots more than Favre in today’s post. Continue reading

Best of The Lowdown BlogCast: August 3, 2010

So the guys figured that if they can take Canada Day off, they can also get Civic Holiday off too. That means it’s time for another Best Of episode of the third season of The Lowdown BlogCast. This retrospective starts with the third edition of your favourite political sports-action-entertainment segment Raw is CPAC. That’s followed up by Steve’s review of The Beatles: Rock Band. Then a pair of Steve’s make the entertainment segment of the show. First, Stephen Harper makes It Came From YouTube. Then our very own Steve wins the Worst of Music. The boys examine the Conservative government’s plans to change the lyrics of Oh Canada using a “secret recording.” After a quick commercial break (for the Strokemeister), Steve takes a trip to an H1N1 vaccination clinic. The show closes up with a promo for Steve’s latest album, Home on the Range.
