Wednesday Link-Off: Going, Going, Gone

Two for the price of one to lead off this linkdump. On the left is Kendra Andrews with her sister Erin. You might have heard of one of them.

Madden 11 drops next Tuesday. I’m excited about Gus Johnson being the new voice of the franchise but there is more to the game than that. (IGN)

Of course, there is one famous name that won’t be in this game. Yes, Brett Favre retired… Maybe. (ESPN Media Zone) Of the 13 of their own analysts, notice how 12 are sucking up to Favre. Schefter is the only one that knows how this’ll play out from here. Just like the rest of us. So, back before Week 1 or Minnesota’s bye week?

And one famous name that will be in the game but won’t be playing in real life is Albert Haynesworth. Well, I’m assuming that they force him to pass that conditioning test. It’s so easy that reporters are doing it. (Out of Bounds)

Sunday Link-Off: Fail The King

I’ve been meaning to run this for a while but here’s Katy Perry from a recent issue of Esquire UK. I hope the US version was paying attention.

The big sports media story of the week was this Arash Markazi story about a night in the life of LeBron James in Las Vegas. (Google Docs)

Why was it such a big story, you might ask? Well, ESPN pulled the story from its website for the dumbest reason on record. (Deadspin) I’m actually shocked by this reason. I didn’t think that anyone from ESPN would pull their lips off LeBron’s ass long enough to dictate a statement.

Though that story might be the highlight of LeBron’s week. Here’s a hypothetical look of when LeBron meets up with Jay-Z for the first time since The Decision. (Food Court Lunch)

Entertainment Link-Off: Smooth Sailing

The movie Charlie St. Cloud isn’t tracking very well at the moment and is looking to a decent sized opening weekend at the box office (I guess the teenage girls aren’t flocking to the theatres for this one). Meanwhile people are heading back to the theatres to watch Inception again or perhaps check out the new comedy Dinner for Schmucks. Anyway, back to Charlie St. Cloud. This supernatural romantic drama stars Zac Efron and the lovely Canadian actress Amanda Crew.

I hope that Japan wins the bid for the 2022 World Cup. They’re promising games shown with life-size holograms. (Gizmodo) See, you’d be wasting your money on a 3D TV. Just wait another dozen years before you plunk down your cash.

The only thing better than life-size holographic soccer will be spectacular Icelandic soccer celebrations recreated by life-size holograms. (Deadspin)

Remember that list last week of the best ballpark food at each stadium? Well, you may want to consult this list of health code violations at North American stadiums before going to the concession stands. (ESPN)

Sunday Link-Off: Fortunate Son

In honour of all the Comic Con coverage that we’ve got on the blog this week, here’s Kelly Brook in a Princess Leia bikini. Well, that’s how it was billed.

Sports Illustrated has released their annual list of the fifty highest earning athletes in North America. A familiar face is again on top of the rankings. (SI Fortunate 50)

SI also released a list of the 20 highest athletes that aren’t Americans. Just goes to show you how ridiculous sports has gotten in the western hemisphere. (SI International 20)

On the opposite end of the scale, Sports Pickle found the 7 lowest earning athletes in the sporting world. (SP Unfortunate 7)

Entertainment Link-Off: Nerding It Up

Lowdown Blog readers should know that I usually just base the title of the ELO’s on a certain theme or ‘big ticket item’ of the weekend. Just to clarify, the title of the previous Entertainment Link-Off does not represent my interpretation of the film Inception. However I would like to point out that Inception is indeed a fantastic film, so go out and see it when you get the chance.

Kicking off this entry is Eva Mendes. Apparently she got some teenage boys really excited during The Other Guys panel on Friday.

I said that the death of George Steinbrenner was a sad day for baseball but the death of actor James Gammon is worse. The man was the greatest movie manager in history. (With Leather)

The ESPYs were last week. They serve no purpose at all but we did get to see Brooklyn Decker. That’s got to count for something.
