Entertainment Link-Off: Quarter Life Crisis

OUT16007859With the poor economy and the abundance of recent college graduates struggling to find a job, the film Post Grad starring Alexis Bledel takes advantage of this situation in hopes of drawing a crowd. In fact it is a nice counter programming to Quentin Tarantino’s latest film Inglorious Basterds. Post Grad does have a nice cast that includes Batman Michael Keaton, Jane Lynch and FNL’s Zach Gilford. Too bad the film is struggling to find good reviews, but if Roger Ebert likes it, it can’t be that bad can it?

After the jump, revisiting The Time Traveler’s Wife, Snoop Dogg tackles Millionaire and some old Ah-nold footage that the Governator doesn’t want you to see. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Return To Regular Service

After last week’s left turn into the world of NASCAR, we return to regular ranting on The Humanoids. At least, for the most part. I have a small correction from last week that I need to make thanks to my own first-hand research. Anyway, I’d like to say that there is one big over-arching theme to this week’s column but I don’t think there is. Maybe shooting yourself in the foot is the theme of this week’s column. I think you can thread that through most of the victims of my occasionally comic rantings. Some more literally than others.

By the way, no new news on the radio show front. It’s coming back soon, though. I hope. Still no word from CHRW about keeping us in their lineup. I’m a little concerned but I’m not going to lose any sleep. After all, a good internet podcast can help make the blog better. However, I doubt it could get us as many page views as Gina Carano has over the last week. Good news is that we’re now being followed by Fanshawe and UWO on Twitter. That’s gotta count for something. The Lowdown Radio: July 7th, 2009

It’s not old enough to be a classic but here is an older episode of The Lowdown radio show that airs in London, Ontario. This episode is one of the three Best Of episodes of The Lowdown that we run every year. On tonight’s episode, Steve and Jackie examine what politics would be like if it were more like professional wrestling. Then, Steve hijacks Jackie’s attempt to give out exam tips by trying to find the best energy drink to pull an all-nighter. When Jackie regains control, he drags Steve around to find the best study spots on campus. Steve fails to interview Paul Martin and he still thinks he was still calling the hockey player. The show is capped of with classic Randy Moller goal calls and Steve’s attempts at Western Mustang-ized goal calls. It’s some of the best segments from Season 2 of The Lowdown in one handy episode.

Video Game Review: Fight Night Round 4

fight-night-round-4-ps3-coverFight Night Round 4 is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Some of the hype has to do with the fact that the graphics looks great. Some of it has to do with the fact that FNR3 was a great game in its own right. But I think that cover really put it over the top. The hype machine was running on all cylinders with the release of this game. Does this game live up to the hype and become a legend like some of the fighters in the game? Find out after the jump. Hockey Canada Unveils Olympic Jerseys, Drops The Ball

team-canada-2010-jerseysHockey Canada has unveiled the jerseys that Team Canada will don in their attempt to win gold on home turf at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Hockey Canada was forced to make changes to their jersey after the IOC said that the Hockey Canada logo couldn’t be used on the Olympic jerseys. Previously, the Canadian Olympic Committee had gotten an exemption so Hockey Canada could use the logo. The 2010 jerseys are the same as the most recent Team Canada jerseys but with a new logo. I think that Hockey Canada had a golden opportunity to do something special here but they blew it. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Up To Speed

blake-lively3Here’s Blake Lively. If you get close enough to her to make small talk, the book is Chuck Hogan’s Prince of Thieves. You’re welcome.

TopGear.com’s American website was dropped by the BBC. As a parting “thanks, you bastards,” the editorial staff decided to play a prank on the whole of the internet (New York Times)

Speaking of Top Gear, host James May is up to no good. After making a plasticine garden and building a life-sized Lego house, he’s building a real-length race track recreation slot car track. (Daily Telegraph)

In case you were under a rock, Usain Bolt set another 100m world record. (Next Round) He was so unnaturally fast that somebody much smarter than me put together some graphs to show you how fast he is. (Science of Sports)

After the jump, the third coming of Brett Favre, more Mayfield family drama, and a very fast car races a very fast jet fighter plane. Continue reading

Football Night In Canada: Week 7 Wrapup

Week 7 is a critical week in the run to the Grey Cup. This is the last week before the Labour Day rivalry week that all eight teams will be in action. That means that teams on the outside looking in can make up a lot of ground before that final sprint to the playoffs. Continue reading

Not News of the Week

I may be on my way back from Michigan International Speedway but that doesn’t mean that things don’t roll along as usual. It’s time for the weird, the wacky, and the wonderful on the Not News of the Week. This week’s theme is doctors and surgery.

A British paramedic who allegedly had oral sex in a hospital parking lot while on duty claimed he was only trying to comfort a woman. That doesn’t explain why he was caught on a security camera sitting in the passenger seat of a car with a woman’s head in his lap. A hospital security guard saw the couple sitting in the car and, thinking that they were suspicious, focused a security camera on them. What he got was a 14 minute live sex show. The security guard said, “In the footage, her head does go to his lap. Her head does appear to go up and down.” The hospital’s security chief also saw the pair go at it on camera and said that it wasn’t the first time that the hospital parking lot was used for a conjugal visit.
