Sunday Link-Off: A Man’s Linkdump

It’s been a while so here’s Katy Perry. Who doesn’t love her?

Now that they’ve sorted health care, the US Congress is now working on the critical task of instituting a college football playoff. (Wall Street Journal)

Looking for decorating ideas for you man cave? Here are the 25 must include accessories for your lair. (Bro Bible) I could use some of those ideas if I ever open a pub.

What guy doesn’t love big hits? Between that and fighting, hockey is the greatest sport on ice. Need proof? Look no further. (Lion’s Den U)

After the jump, how not to catch a trophy, the latest i-banker must-have accessory, and a Tiger Woods remix. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Twilight Link-Off Part Deux

Welcome to another edition of the Entertainment Link-Off. This weekend marks the release of Brothers which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire, who happen to look awfully alike. Yeah, it doesn’t sound all that appealing. Then they throw in Natalie Portman and suddenly I am interested.

After the jump, a few leftover Twilight related links, Iron Man stuff and Super Mario and Queen unite. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Sex and Fast Cars

Let’s kick off with Mila Kunis posing on a car.

Some men may be good at sex but most men are bad at writing about sex. Hell there’s even the Bad Sex in Fiction Awards. (BBC)

For example, this might not necessarily be fiction, but for leading us to think his girl in this story might be a looker, John Mustang should get consideration for the above. (Lion’s Den University) I’m not saying it’s a bad story. I’m just saying that I don’t enjoy being misled about Heidi’s looks.

It’s that time of week again. It’s time for this week’s edition of the Asshole Coach Digest. (Deadspin)

After the jump, Hogan vs. Flair for the 21st century, the Grey Cup from the press box, and the Chinese simulation of the Tiger Woods crash. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Thanksgiving Leftovers

Shockingly for only the first time, here’s Natalie Portman.

The boys at Deadspin passed the US Thanksgiving long weekend by posting high school reunion horror stories. Of them all, this was my favourite. (Deadspin)

I don’t suppose anyone can help me find a way to talk EA Sports letting me have a copy of NCAA Basketball 10 to review. I’m not just saying that because my favourite play-by-play man Gus Johnson is calling the action. (Fanhouse)

This stuff never gets old. It’s the second edition of the best things overheard at the U of WO. (Lion’s Den University)

After the jump, some painful sports stories, something else, and the return of a classic WWE announce team. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Black Friday Hangover

I’m sure everyone is exhausted from the endless shopping, so it’s time to just sit down, relax and check out this week’s Entertainment Link-Off. After a Twilight heavy link-off, let’s shift the focus to other stuff. This ELO features Anna Kendrick. She’ll be co-starring with George Clooney in the film Up in the Air. The critically acclaimed film directed by Jason Reitman is set to hit theatres next week. Hurray! We can simply forget that she was in that vampire movie that just came out.

After the jump, a few featurettes on Avatar, FOX announces its midseason schedule, some fun Star Wars stuff and more Lego awesomeness. Continue reading

Twilight Link-Off: Let the Wrong One In

There’s a lot of hoopla generated over the big weekend at the box office as hoards of teens, fangirls and maybe some fanboys flocked over to the theatres to see New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight series.

I haven’t seen New Moon, so I can’t go all out and bash it, but I have seen Twilight (not by choice). To be honest, Twilight wasn’t horrible, but at the same time it is not a good movie either. The fact that it is based on a mediocre novel series didn’t help its prospects. The acting was a bit wooden, but can you blame them? [See source material] Anyway, watching or reading Twilight is not as bad as sitting on an electric chair; however it doesn’t deserve all the hype it’s getting right now. If you truly appreciate a great vampire relationship movie, go check out the amazing, yet haunting Swedish flick ‘Let the Right One In’.

I can never seem to get into the whole vampire/human love thing. It worked to a certain extent in Underworld (which is another deeply flawed film) since the female vampire Selena was attracted to a human adult man. However, this concept doesn’t work so well in the Twilight series. It’s not the role reversal, it’s the age issue. Seriously girls, Edward might seem like the perfect guy for you, but does it not disturb you that the vampire is over 100 years old and he’s going out with a teenage girl? We do have a name for something like that in real life, they’re called pedophiles.

Over the past week, there have been plenty of Twilight related stuff piling up. In fact there’s so much that it’s getting it’s very own link-off! Just for kicks let’s take a look at one good and one bad attempt to defend the vampire saga and various items that poke fun or bash the Twilight series after the jump. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Into The Dawn

I was looking for a subtly anti-Twilight title so that’s why it’s weird. And Sofia Vergara looks a lot more like a woman than the Twilight toothpicks.

Let’s kick off with a trio of Twilight links. First, it’s The War of the Worlds. By which I mean the battle between the fans of Twilight and Harry Potter in NERDMAGEDDON! (NBC Dallas-Fort Worth)

There’s a university professor that thinks that Twilight should lose that fight. She says that Twilight is setting woman back despite the fact they’re the only ones that read/watch it. (Daily Telegraph)

And for the sake of balance, here’s legendary director Kevin Smith talking about why Twilight isn’t such a bad thing. (Huffington Post)

After the jump, Thierry Henry’s new video game, Super Dave Osborne, and Top Gear insanity. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: A Train Wreck

Here’s Leighton Meester. She’s not quite Blake Lively but she does have a sex tape so bonus points there.

This is easily the greatest fan rant of all time. (No Spain, No Gain) Actually, if you substitute “Grimsby Town” with “Toronto Maple Leafs,” you’d have a fairly accurate idea of how Leafs fans feel.

I don’t think that “vintage” is the right word to describe some of these wrestling promos. However, “train wreck” is right on the money. (Gunaxin)

Train wreck is also a good way to describe this list of the 50 greatest MMA dominations. Somehow, Kimbo Slice’s loss to that pink haired guy isn’t on there. How much did Dana White pay to make that fight disappear? (Complex)

After the jump, the least valuable players and coaches, Stamkos shows why he was drafted #1 and the worst video acting ever. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Alter the Ending

This week’s Entertainment Link-Off features Kristen Stewart. She’s currently starring in that vampire flick that all the ladies are flocking to this weekend. The books and movies might not be any good, but they’re doing a fine job sucking money out of people. Heck, I’m giving it free publicity by mentioning it here. Seriously, what’s so appealing about vampires that lacks the bite? Nevermind, they’re flailing over that dude who was offed by Voldemort.

After the jump more Twilight related stuff, Chuck returns, a few TV tidbits and a look at Dashboard Confessional’s latest album ‘Alter the Ending’. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off

Here’s Ashley Greene. She’s in some movie that teenage & university girls like. Guys, don’t say I never help.

This Saturday is national semi-final Saturday in Canadian university football. Before the game, here’s a great story about the fans of the nation’s best team, the Laval Rouge et Or. (French: Le Soleil, English: Google Translate)

If the NFL is more your football speed, maybe you’d like this comparison of all 32 NFL teams to pop stars. (National Lampoon)

You and your beer swilling friends aren’t the only ones obsessed with fantasy football. Beer swilling senior citizens are just as good as you. (Deadspin)

After the jump, more sports links, overheard at my alma mater, and the greatest Twilight spoof ever. Continue reading
