SI Swimsuit 2012 Cover Odds

One of the great perks that comes with a Sports Illustrated subscription is getting the mid-winter classic known as the SI Swimsuit Issue. Last summer, models were secretly whisked off to tropical locales all over the world and photographed in complete secrecy… Well, at least when Twitter and Facebook didn’t give us sneak peaks of what to expect. Anyway, shrouded in even more secrecy is the identity of the magazine’s cover model. Being the SI Swimsuit cover model is probably the highest honour that can be bestowed on a model. It comes with instant celebrity, international recognition, a blogosphere presence for life and a blown-up copy of your cover on the Wall of Morale in the Dan Patrick Show man cave.

Entertainment Link-Off: With Great Power…

At the box office this weekend, there’s the found-footage flick about teenagers with superpowers in Chronicle. There’s also a solid ghost movie The Woman in Black starring Harry… I mean Daniel Radcliffe. Finally, there’s the family flick Big Miracle. Nothing particularly special about that one, but at least Kristen Bell is in it!

WWE Royal Rumble 2012 Review

Every year, the Road To WrestleMania starts with the battle for a world title shot in the Royal Rumble. In a return to tradition, 30 men did battle in the over-the-top-rope battle royal for the honour of main eventing WrestleMania. 46 Musical Acts Rejected Before Madonna For Super Bowl XLVI

It wasn’t without controversy that the latest act in the post-Wardrobe Malfunction era of Super Bowl halftime shows was Madonna. She’s never been the most wholesome person in the world but now that she’s well past 50, she’s not only relatively harmless compared to the past, she’s relative irrelevant. However, the NFL went through a long list of performers before finally settling on Madonna as the best option for the Super Bowl.

Star Wars Uncut

When George Lucas commissioned the 1997 Special Edition updates to the original Star Wars trilogy (which opened in theatres 15 years ago today), he did so to improve the special effects of the film using modern technology so it looked closer to his original vision. Entertainment Link-Off: Pushed to the Edge

This weekend marks the release of 3 new major releases at the theatres. There’s Liam Neeson kicking some wolf ass in The Grey. Sam Worthington wants to jump off the ledge of a building. Oh there’s also a new Katherine Heigl movie. Yeah, we all cringed at the thought of that. Anyway, I was considering to start off the ELO with Yvonne Strahovski since last night was the series finale of Chuck. Then I realized I haven’t featured Mekenna Melvin during the show’s run since she appeared as Casey’s daughter Alex. So let’s kick off this week’s ELO with her!

The Layover: The Complete First Season

Given how similar we are, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m a fan of chef/TV personality Anthony Bourdain. Last November, the Travel Channel debuted a second show starring Bourdain. This new one follows Tony as he spends a day in a city and explores the local culture and food scenes. Appropriately, this one is called The Layover. Fans of No Reservations will recognize the style of show but condensed into a smaller time frame.

Worst of Music: Tyga – Rack City

As seems to be the case fairly often in the feature, I hadn’t heard of Tyga until selecting this week’s Worst of Music winner. But his ascension into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 got my attention. Unfortunately for me, I listened to his song and it wasn’t more than five seconds before it was the week’s top contender and fifteen seconds before it cemented itself as an early front-runner for 2012’s worst of music with his song Rack City. I’ve never exactly been sure why but the national anthem of the respective participating nations are traditionally played before major games. Often, these performances are very good and pass by without a batted eyelash. Then, there are those performances that make you wish you were deaf.
