Worst of Music: Maroon 5 – Moves Like Jagger

I’ve never really understood why people like Maroon 5. Lead singer Adam Levine has an odd voice and the entire reason he seems to be in a band is so he can make out and roll around nude with impossibly gorgeous models in music videos. Unfortunately for us, he has to make music if he wants to keep sampling the talent which leads us to this week’s Worst of Music. Maroon 5 is back with a new single that only took two months after its debut on The Singing Bee (or whatever X-Factor knock-off that Levine was a part of on NBC) to near the top of the Billboard charts. This week’s WoM is Moves Like Jagger. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Big Picture

Is it just me or has this week flown by? Maybe it has to do with everything that’s happened in the world over the last seven days. But let’s try to get things back to normal with Salma Hayek who looks her amazing mind-bogglingly amazing usual.

The sports world has been abuzz with the impending collapse of the University of Miami football program after this Yahoo investigative report which details illegal benefits given to players. (Yahoo Sports) Of course, the U’s big mistake was getting caught. I’d be willing to bet it happens everywhere.

The other big story in the sports world is this feature-length interview of Michael Vick. (GQ)

It’s been about two months since the launch of Bill Simmons’ Grantland website. However, as this takedown of Bill’s site says, it’s all been much ado about nothing. (Bryan Joiner)

After the jump, potential new NHL rules, TBS’ failure with Conan and Roenick makes Gretzky’s head bleed. Continue reading

Lowdown Pub Quiz: Week 2

On the last podcast, we did our first Lowdown pub quiz where our intrepid hosts/bloggers competed in a battle of wits (Or, in Steve’s case, half of it). In our first attempt at this, Steve noted that they both scored 5 out of 7. The difference between the two is that Jackie got 5 of 7 right while Steve got 5 of 7 wrong. Can Steve redeem himself in our second quiz or will Jackie grow the lead? Hit the jump for this week’s quiz. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Bright Lights, Bigger City

As I’m wont to do when I get to travel to the centre of the universe, occasionally also referred to as Toronto, today’s column focuses on the small town perspective of the big city. I don’t really get to Toronto very often but I find it such a fascinating place to go. It’s so different from what I’m used to in my daily routine that it really can be a bit of a shock. After all, I come from a town where public transit consists of bus routes where you see the bus once an hour. Toronto has buses, subways, GO trains and streetcars. The big city certainly is a strange place. Continue reading

Man Lab Link-Off: Back In The Game

It’s been a whole three weeks since we last ran a set of link provided by the Man Lab. To make up for the lack of recent links, here’s Bar Refaeli.

If there’s a list of top party schools out there, it’s the job of the Man Lab to find it for you. The latest list is from the Princeton Review which calls Ohio University America’s top party school. (The Big Lead)

After the jump, how to get out of the doghouse, how to meet women if you can’t get out of the doghouse and the world’s top and up-and-coming hotties. Continue reading

Ken Block Gymkhana 4

It’s been about 11 months since we last saw Ken Block hooning about in his Ford Fiesta in his Gymkhana 3 video. Well, the unquestioned master of viral drifting videos is back with Gymkhana 4. This time, Ken slings his Fiesta around the backlot at Universal Studio. Rather than just speed, smoke and sideways cars, this edition adds explosions, gorilla suits, crashing through brick buildings and even Epic Meal Time. There are even homages to famous movies in there too. It’s a Gymkhana with something for everyone. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: In-Depth

I’m still waiting on G4 HD to show up here in the Western part of Canada (as deemed by the CRTC) so I don’t get to see much of Alison Haislip which is a damn shame.

A perpetual discussion at my 9-to-5 is the correct use of the English language. That’s why I have to link to this list of the nine most misused words in the English language. (Cool Story)

In slightly less happy but much cooler news, here’s a look inside the Essex County Homicide Task Force which tackles crimes, in among other places, Newark. (Star-Ledger)

And speaking of crime, here’s an in-depth look inside the corruption that mires FIFA. (Grantland)

After the jump, what’s not coming to the NHL R&D camp, Warren Buffett wants to pay more taxes and when safety cars aren’t so safe. Continue reading

Fails of the Week

Every so often, we take a look at the most epic fails from the week that was in the Fails of the Week. This week, we have five pictures and videos that we think are the most epic fails of the week. And, yes, Kanye makes the cut this week. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Taylor Swift – Lose Yourself (Live)

Feeling counts for so much in music. If you don’t sing a song the right way, you could turn any of the great Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards or Taupin/John songs from epic pieces of musical greatness into steaming piles of shit. And that brings us to this week’s Worst of Music. When you cover the greatest rap song of the 21st century, you have to do it justice to get away without earning a WoM to teach you a lesson. Last week, we heard about country starlet Taylor Swift covering Eminem’s Lose Yourself. It as so bad and soulless that I have no choice but to call it this week’s Worst of Music. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Kick-Off

I don’t watch NCIS:LA but I can’t fault people who do if Daniela Ruah is on the show.

With the NFL pre-season underway, that means it’s time we’re kicking off fantasy football season. Did you know that it’s a billion-dollar industry? (Hollywood Reporter)

Nobody’s asking but it’s not a bad question: How will the recent US economic debt crisis / double-dip recession affect the economics of the NHL? (On The Forecheck)

Bad news for pay-per-view providers: Cable/satellite users are buying less PPV porn. That’s what the internet does for you. (Wall Street Journal)

After the jump, Punk vs. Cena II, baseball’s fake attendance numbers and Brokeback About Nothing. Continue reading
