Football Night In Canada: Kicking Off Week 2

The second week of the CFL season kicked off in Montreal at Molson Stadium on the campus of McGill University. While school may be out for the students, that didn’t mean that there wasn’t a massive crowd on hand. Like the games last week, yesterday was a playoff rematch of the East Division Final between the Als and the Edmonton Eskimos. Would the Als come out on top like the last time they met? Car Wall: BMW’s Epic Failures

Welcome to the second edition of the online Car Wall. We use this to help us rate cars’ coolness based on how well they help you pick up women. The ratings are (from least to most cool): Seriously Uncool, Uncool, Cool, and Sub-Zero. Today, I focus on BMW. They’ve had some good cars but they’ve recently come out with some monumental atrocities to the car world.

katie-cassidy-l6Katie Cassidy is still alive on “Harper’s Island” but will she last the two hour finale? Find out Thursday on Global or Saturday on CBS. Skipping it wouldn’t be that smart.

Trying a do-it-yourself home repair while drunk will always end badly. Though most people don’t end up as badly off as this British man. (Daily Telegraph)

Tommy Craggs of Deadspin thinks that he has figured out Sarah Palin’s basketball analogy from her resignation speech. I’d say his play diagram is pretty spot on. (Deadspin)

Not News of the Week

Every week, there are stories that won’t make the headlines, take up weeks of coverage on CNN, or have people buzzing at the water cooler. These are the stories that aren’t worth talking about. This is the Not News of the week.

The city of Toronto can be glad that they don’t have to put up with garbage men this stuck up about procedure while they’re all on strike. A British garbage man refused to collect one man’s garbage can because it was placed three inches too far to the right and not sitting square on the sidewalk. The same man found his garbage uncollected two weeks later because there was a crumpet in his recycling bin. I guess that British garbage men are the only ones who have an appreciation for Feng Shui. Football Night In Canada: BC at SSK

The first week of the CFL season ended on the biggest night of the CFL week. Friday Night Football kicked of it’s 19 week run as the last game of week one. The BC Lions and the Saskatchewan Roughriders renewed acquaintances after last seeing each other in last year’s West Division semi-final which the Lions won 33-12. Would the Friday night showcase live up to the last two CFL matchups of week one or would be a bore like their last game. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Happy (July) Holidays

I’m having trouble figuring out what is the biggest holiday. Is it Christmas, Victoria/Memorial Day, or Canada/Independence Day? At Christmas, you give and receive gifts which makes it a hit with the kids. But the other two have the adults (and most teenagers) giving and receiving beer. On that alone I’d knock off Christmas but the snow and blizzards seal the deal. When you consider that Canada Day and Independence Day fall close enough together that you can party twice in short succession and take that whole stretch off without burning too many vacation days, it has to be the winner. The fact that I live on the US border probably makes it seem better too. Continue reading
