The Humanoids: As The Puck Drops

It’s a late and abbreviated edition of The Humanoids this week. We’ve been busy with anything and everything Olympics related. While I admit that I was cynical coming to the Games, I’ve gotten swept up in Olympic fever and am prepping for the semi-final between our heroic Canadians and the dastardly Slovaks. They would be less dastardly and more dangerous if they were still Czechoslovakia but they broke up so it’s better for the rest of the hockey world. Anyway, most of today’s subjects are somehow related to Olympic hockey. Even the two that aren’t are sports folks because it’s a good week to be a sports fan… Unless you watch NBC. Continue reading

The Humanoids: The Five Rings of Hell

This is apparently the worst Winter Olympic Games in the history of the world if you ask the British press. But they’re a fickle bunch so I pay them little to no attention. I think these are a pretty Olympic Games. Of course, I’m watching them through maple leaf shaped glasses. That doesn’t mean that these games are perfect. There are some issues and people overshadowing what should be the greatest games ever. And, no, I don’t mean the broken cauldron. That was fairly embarrassing, though. Let’s blame that on the Newfies. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Cheers Conan

I know the post is about Conan O’Brien (mostly), but let’s start with the drop dead gorgeous ex-Friday Night Lights starlet Adrienne Palicki.

Let’s start with a recap of the final Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien (Kansas City Star)

Conan has to stay off TV for the next seven months but what if he never came back? He could make a huge impact on the interweb. (New York Times)

Did you know that Artie Lange (of talking about Joe Buck sucking cock fame) predicted that the whole Conan mess would happen? (The Comic’s Comic)

After the jump, lots more on Conan, slightly NSFW sports stuff, and some Simpsons just because. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: The Replacements

Jackie’s out and I’m in. The ELO is probably going to be a little different until Jackie gets back so settle in for a wild ride. Anyway, let’s kick things off with Blake Lively. If you check out my linkdumps regularly, you would see her fairly often.

Here’s an example of how things are different. Would Jackie link to a picture of a 5-year-old hitting a beer bong? The better question is who would let a 5-year-old hit a beer bong? (Lion’s Den U)

Maybe I’ll make up for that with the usual. Liam Neeson, maybe? How ’bout Rampage Jackson? Yes, it’s The A-Team trailer. (/Film)

And it’s time for your token Avatar is racist and anti-American essay. (New York Times)

After the jump, some sports/entertainment stuff, Leno vs. Conan, and the Taco Bell commercial girl. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off

Ashley Greene’s SI photoshoot may be an ad for SoBe but it put her on my radar for the SI swimsuit cover.

First the Americans are accused of borrowing the Canadian style of play and now the Russians are doing the same. After all, line brawls are a Canadian thing. (Fanhouse)

It’s a look at the 11 most painfully obvious newspaper stories. And you wonder why newspapers are dying. It should be obvious. (11 Points)

A Star Wars burlesque show? Now I’ve seen it all. Or I will when I go see it. (LA Weekly)

After the jump, Conan farts in NBC’s general direction, Mike Tyson hosts Monday Night Raw, and the LT style electric glide. Continue reading

Could Chuck be premiering before March 2010?!

chuck 3Since it seems like everything at NBC is going down the crapper (yes, that includes Southland being canned before the season premiere has even aired), I suppose it is a good time to start speculating when Chuck will be appearing on our TV screens once again. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Get Your Glee On!

dianna agron 1Alright Lowdown Blog readers, are you ready to get your Glee on? The series just aired the director’s cut of the pilot episode this past Wednesday (along with that tweetpeat thing) on FOX. If you’re not singing along to Don’t Stop Believing right now, you should be. Anyway the season premiere of the show will be airing this Wednesday at 9 pm on FOX (and Global in Canada).

Headlining this link-off post is Dianna Agron because she’s part of the awesome cast on this fantastic show!

After the jump, a bit more on Glee, NBC’s journey to epic failure (almost), K-Fed is a tub of lard, Disney buying Marvel might not be a bad thing after all and singing on X-Factor is a very ‘hard’ thing to do. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Locked and Loaded

rachel nicholsIt’s time for another edition of the Entertainment Link-Off! This weekend marks the release of the highly anticipated G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. It’s one of the last summer action-fests, so head out to the theatres to check it out… I know I’ll be there! If you’re not interested in the storyline or anything, just remember this movie features a nifty fight scene between Rachel Nichols (pictured) and Sienna Miller! Mrow!

After the jump more 500 Days of Summer stuff, some movie casting news and almost everybody hates NBC. Continue reading

Good Idea/Bad Idea: Premiere Edition

The Humanoids is on hiatus this week. Steve is off somewhere in his secret bunker plotting to take over the world. On second thought, he might be still trying to figure out what “st****** m*****f******” stands for. I’m somewhat baffled too… it contains one too many letters to be “stupid motherfucker”.

Anyway, this might not be the next big hit on The Lowdown Blog, but it’ll do for now. I’m too lazy to keep this up on a regular basis, but expect to see this segment once in a while. Here’s the debut of “Good Idea/Bad Idea”. Continue reading
