Since it seems like everything at NBC is going down the crapper (yes, that includes Southland being canned before the season premiere has even aired), I suppose it is a good time to start speculating when Chuck will be appearing on our TV screens once again.
Ausiello is now reporting that Chuck might be premiering earlier than expected. Actually it will be a lot earlier than expected:
It’s good news (for me), bad news (for NBC): Since its numbers are down and its new and returning shows are mainly DOA (Southland was axed before new episodes even aired!), Chuck’s third season might get to premiere sooner than the March date that’s been bandied about thus far.
“How much sooner” you ask?
As early as late October, my moles tell me. And while it remains unclear whether the little show that could (and has and shall again) would return to its Monday timeslot or find itself a new perch, NBC insiders who’ve seen the first four episodes are calling this season the best yet.
Sounds like good news right?
I am pumped about the idea of Chuck returning early; however I would prefer to see it air in March after the Olympics. It is nice to watch NBC continue to crash and burn right now, so that when Chuck does return later on, it will look awesome by comparison. Plus with the Olympics airing, you can also expect lots of plum promotional spots for the show!
Now the question is, when should Chuck air? Tuesdays are occupied by The Biggest Loser. Thursday is considered to be a comedy block. Friday is a TV wasteland. So that leaves Mondays and Wednesdays. There is an insane amount of competition on Mondays. Remember last season? Yeah, it didn’t get better this time around (see House, Dancing with the Stars and etc.). Wednesdays are looking good right now. Then again, with Trauma heading towards the can faster than Mercy, I have an odd feeling we’ll get the Chuck-Heroes pairing once again.
I really liked the idea of the show airing in March since it builds anticipation for the show. Plus, with a back 9 order, I would actually have something to watch during the summer. Think about it, Friday Night Lights + Chuck. For once I will stay in and watch scripted programming on network TV during the warm sunny months.
Of course, if Chuck does return in a few weeks, I won’t complain. I love this show and I’ll continue to tune in. Remember to drag your fellow Nerd Herders along. We need as many viewers as we can get!
