Not News of the Week

Another week brings you another dose of all the news that’s not fit for print. It’s the Not News of the Week.

No matter how your Valentine’s Day went, it had to have been better than this guy. A Bentley University student was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a threesome gone wrong. The man was trying to arrange a threesome with two (less-than-attractive) women and was willing to pay to make it happen. However, there was a disagreement over money to be exchanged so the women attacked the man and took his money without rendering any services. In terms of hookup failures, I’d have to say that this is probably the worst case scenario. Continue reading

Formula One: Jerez Testing Recap

The spiritual home of Formula One testing was the host to the second week of F1 pre-season testing. It was also host to the first wet weather running of 2010 as three of the four testing days were plagued by rain. While it’s good experience for the teams to see how their cars perform with low grip, it adds another layer of deception to the times the teams lay down. Not only are speeds affected by fuel loads but the track conditions when the time is set. So who is looking good in the biggest test of the winter so far? Times and analysis after the jump. Sunday Link-Off: Happy Valentine’s Day

Maybe Julie Henderson will be my valentine. I doubt it though.

The opening ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympics was quite the sight. Especially the look on Nash and Gretzky’s faces when they realized something had gone horribly wrong. (Gawker TV)

Of course, the Olympics aren’t all fun and games. Protesters bitching about everything are wreaking havoc on Vancouver. (Boston Globe)

And don’t have your Olympic tickets yet? Well VANOC has setup their own version of StubHub to rip you off with service fees help you find tickets to the events you want to go to. (CNBC)

After the jump, Vince’s latest crazy plan, something else, and the SI Swimsuit cover curse. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Banging

Kaley Cuoco shows that there is a reason why I should start watching The Big Bang Theory.

I’ve been saving this link for a week but here’s how the best Super Bowl ad of the year came together. (LA Times)

But that wasn’t originally the plan for the Letterman spot. Dave wanted a bigger and/or more crowded couch. (The Wrap)

And it’s the movie moment we’ve all been waiting for. It’s the red band trailer for Kevin Smith’s Cop Out. It’s better than the green band trailer and you will want to see it after watching this. (Film Drunk)

After the jump, a ridiculous John Mayer interview, revealing James Bond mistakes, and a video. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Let The Games Begin

Yes, it’s that time of the bi-year again. It’s time for another Olympic Games. After months of hype, it’s time to light the torch. And it couldn’t come a moment too soon. After all, the sooner the torch is lit, the sooner we can get the real show on the road. The Road to Vancouver (as the broadcasters have called it) haven’t really whetted my appetite. I just want to get this thing started. With all the World Championships, X Games and various international events, the Olympics seem to have lost some of their uniqueness. After all, I consider a snowboarding gold in the X Games more prestigious than an Olympic gold. However, when national pride comes into play, that changes all the rules. Continue reading

Lowdown Radio Classic: February 3, 2009

It’s an all-time great episode of The Lowdown radio show for today’s classic episode post. And after we weren’t on air last Tuesday, we need to pull out an all-timer to make up for the “pre-emption.” This vintage episode was the second annual Valentine’s special. The show starts with Steve and Jackie hitting Richmond Row to try out pickup lines. That doesn’t end well for them. Especially Steve. Then they try a musical feature called “Love Songs That Aren’t Really Love Songs But Kinda Are.” The news deals all with sex. Jackie and Steve previewed two bad songs during the entertainment segment. After the break, Steve recaps Winter Homecoming at UWO which was really just a trumped up way for the USC to promote the Jack Frost Cup hockey game and make money off it. The show wraps up with Jackie giving a cooking lesson and Steve trying to hijack it with his own cooking tips. It’s one of the top five best episodes in Lowdown history and just time to help you out for Valentine’s Day.

Wednesday Link-Off: Super Bowl Hangover

We’re back to normal on the blog. Hopefully the heat from the UWO election primer dies down. But you couldn’t expect anyone other than Rutledge supporters to be happy after than. Hopefully everyone is happy with Brooklyn Decker leading off this post.

I love Deadspin’s Asshole Digests. The Asshole Boss Digest has a lot to live up to but it’s off to a good start. (Deadspin)

Did you know that The Who were on your TV as much as live game action from the Super Bowl. There’s video proof of that. (Gawker TV) Couldn’t we just watch a Grey Cup replay instead?

It’s best you give up on mainstream websites. Their creativity in coming up with Super Bowl headlines is lacking. (Joe Sports Fan)

After the jump, more Super Bowl links, another Milbury brawl and We Won’t Get Fooled Again! Continue reading

Not News of the Week

A day late and a dollar short but it’s still the weirdest and wackiest stories from around the world. It’s the Not News of the Week.

Let’s lead off with the “Only in America” story of the week. A middle school student in New York City was led out of class in handcuffs after drawing on a desk with a marker. She wrote “Lex was here 2/1/10” and “I love my friends Abby and Faith.” That was enough to earn the 12-year-old girl a several hour trip to a police station complete with a ride in a squad car. The New York Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit last month over at least 20 similar arrests by school safety officers. Despite the ridiculous nature of the arrest, the girl will have to complete eight hours of community service, a book report and an essay on what she learned from this experience. Continue reading

Royal Rumble 2010 Review

This past Sunday was the 23rd Royal Rumble. Since the 1991, the winner of the Royal Rumble 30-man over-the-top-rope battle royale has been given an automatic title shot at WrestleMania. So who will be guaranteed a title match at the biggest show of the year and who will be holding the belts heading to Phoenix? More importantly, how good was the kick off of the road to WrestleMania? Find out after the jump. Continue reading

Formula 1: Valencia Testing Recap

The start of February meant the end of the moratorium on testing in Formula One. Seven of the thirteen teams entered in the 2010 World Championship were at the Circuito Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, to shakedown their cars. All of the teams there were in the 2009 Championship. There were teams looking to build on last year’s success and others looking for a complete turnaround. There were new faces in new places and some familiar faces making their return to action. So who looks best after the first three days of testing? Times and analysis after the jump. Continue reading
