Sunday Link-Off: Playing Favourites

olivia-wilde-marieclaire13-05It’s the end of a long week of writing. From Monday to Friday, we posted over 9,000 words. Doing a thorough week of blogging is a bit tiring so I’ll apologize in advance if next week is a bit quieter. However, we have the F1 race recap (assuming that it didn’t get rained out overnight while I was asleep) and a new gaming column coming up this week. I’m hoping to get a review for The Showdown Effect done this week too.

Right, you’re not here to hear me ramble on about blog stuff. Since Jackie didn’t feature her yesterday, here’s Olivia Wilde.

What is the Republicans’ game with the sequester? They’re actually looking to cut any specific thing. They just want cuts, wherever they may come from. (Think Progress)

Cardinal Bergoglio came from absolutely nowhere to become Pope Francis. After Cardinal Ratzinger won the Papacy as the favourite the last time out, you’d be forgiven if you thought that the favourite winning was the norm. Sunday Link-Off: Ending 2012

I probably should have made this the year-in-review post but there were almost no other links to choose from for last Wednesday’s linkdump apart from the year-in-review links. Mind you, this linkdump isn’t looking too long either. Anyway, start the last linkdump of the year with Nina Agdal. You’ll be seeing her again when I do the annual SI Swimsuit cover odds post.

Wednesday Link-Off: July 4th, 2012

I’m actually shocked that we have a linkdump for you today. After all, most blogs take the week of Independence Day off. But since it’s Independence Day, here’s American model Erin Heatherton.

Let’s start off with some news in the world of sports media. Erin Andrews is making the jump from ESPN to Fox Sports. She’s already drawn assignments for the MLB All-Star Game and playoffs, NCAA football and NFL football. (Sports Illustrated)

Sunday Link-Off: Changes

I really don’t have anything witty to start off today’s linkdump with. Maybe I should get some more sleep. Screw it. Sleep is for the week! Anyway, here’s Gio Ott in her first appearance on the blog.

You’d think that two years of unemployment would make people reexamine themselves but it’s not always the case. Jay Mariotti is still Jay Mariotti and that means he likely won’t be finding steady employment any time soon. (Deadspin)

GoDaddy is going to completely overhaul its marketing strategy. That means they’ll be dropping the “racy” commercials and de-emphasizing the GoDaddy girls. (The Daly Planet)

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is this weekend. There are a few interesting storylines. There’s the hybrid battle between Audi and Toyota. There’s also the futuristic looking Delta Wing which is trying to achieve the same speed as the Prototype 2 category with half the power, half the weight and half the drag using half the fuel. Sunday Link-Off: Missing The Mark

Around here, we like to keep you apprised of the latest Canadian talent. The latest up-and-comer is Michea Crawford. And it’s pretty easy to see that she’s going to be in our 2013 Hottest Canadian bracket.

As a robot, Canadian Prime Minister Steven Harper has trouble grasping such things as distasteful comments and facts. He accused the NDP of being pro-Hitler in 1939. That was a fabrication because the NDP didn’t exist until 1961. Anyway, the Canadian people weren’t willing to let him get away with such a ridiculous statement. (CBC News)

Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream is up for sale this week. It’s estimated auction value is over $80 million. (Wall Street Journal)

The Best of Occupy Tebow (Part 2)

The revolution will not be quieted until the media has learned its lesson. The media has been hot and cold on Tim Tebow and his inconsistent performances en route to a 2-1 record as a starter this season.  For over a week now, the people have taken to the comments section on an ESPN article on Tebow ostensibly to show what they really think of Tebow but in actuality to show ESPN and the media that they cannot dictate reality but actually have to report news accurately without an agenda..

The Best of Occupy Tebow

The revolution will not be televised but rather posted on the internet. The media has been championing Tim Tebow as a great winner and essentially promoting him as the second coming for the Denver Broncos. His first start this season was 57 minutes of poor play followed by a comeback. His second start was utter garbage. Only then the media figured out that Tebow wasn’t the be all and end all of quarterbacks. Now, the people have taken to the ESPN comments section on an anti-Tebow article to show what they really think of Tebow.

The Humanoids: Bright Lights, Bigger City

As I’m wont to do when I get to travel to the centre of the universe, occasionally also referred to as Toronto, today’s column focuses on the small town perspective of the big city. I don’t really get to Toronto very often but I find it such a fascinating place to go. It’s so different from what I’m used to in my daily routine that it really can be a bit of a shock. After all, I come from a town where public transit consists of bus routes where you see the bus once an hour. Toronto has buses, subways, GO trains and streetcars. Wednesday Link-Off: Back To Business

So Comic Con is over. The NFL lockout is over. CM Punk’s absence from the WWE seems to be over. And Olivia Wilde is starring in a movie that doesn’t look that good. It looks like everything is back to normal.

The NFL lockout is over. I guess we have the NBA which is locked out with their cocks out. (Literally in the case of Ron Artest.) Anyway, CBS casts the inevitable NFL lockout movie. (CBS Sports)

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox is going to be making an ESPN movie. They’ve purchased the movie rights to the ESPN book. (Deadline)

Sources say that there is a non-salary cap and non-temporary insanity reason for Philly trading Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. Apparently, they partied too hard. Multi-millionaires in their 20s partying? Well, I’d never! (Philadelphia Daily News)
