Not News of the Week

It’s time for another dose of all the news that’s not fit for print. It’s time for the Not News of the Week.

There’s nothing better than a 911 call over something ridiculous. My personal favourites are calls about McDonald’s being out of food but this one jumped to the top of the list. A man in Manitoba was arrested for calling 911 because he wanted the Winnipeg Jets back. He’s a little late on his call because the Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996. The 911 operator was willing to deal with one call from the man but when he kept calling back, despite being repeatedly disconnected, police were sent to arrest him. When the operator told the man that the police were on the way to arrest him, he said, “If you’re coming to get me, can you bring me some smokes.” Between wanting the Jets and smokes, he’s got his priorities straight. Comic-Con 2010: Sunday Roundup

It’s the final day of Comic-Con and there is no big event for the day. However it was a good day for TV shows. Fan favourites like Smallville and Supernatural makes another appearance. Meanwhile Glee is back at Comic-Con to please all the Gleeks out there (though I still don’t know what it’s doing at Comic-Con). Continue reading →

2010 Edmonton Indy Wrapup

One weekend every year, the City Centre Airport in Edmonton is host to the elite of North American open-wheel racing (and Milka Duno). Since 2005, the Edmonton Indy had played host to the stars of Champ Car and the Izod IndyCar Series. After an exciting race last week on the streets of downtown Toronto, 25 IndyCars trekked across Canada for the second of two Canadian stops for the Izod IndyCar Series. Continue reading →

F1 German GP: Just Following Orders

If you didn’t know what Article 39.1 of the F1 Sporting Regulations was before this race, you will now. The race looked like it would be a Ferrari 1-2 with Felipe Massa leading Fernando Alonso. But then the call went out on the radio: “Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm that you understood that?” A couple of laps later saw Massa inexplicably slow out of the hairpin and Alonso cruise by en route to victory. To say that this win was controversial would be a wild and dangerous understatement. Continue reading →

Comic-Con 2010: Saturday Roundup

It was indeed a jam-packed day at Comic-Con. All the big movies displayed the big guns to generate buzz and support including Cowboys and Aliens, Thor, Captain America, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Green Lantern. Other films that made quite the splash include Let Me In, Paul and Sucker Punch. Of course, we also check in on Team Bartowski during the Chuck panel (which was disappointingly short this year). Sunday Link-Off: Fortunate Son

In honour of all the Comic Con coverage that we’ve got on the blog this week, here’s Kelly Brook in a Princess Leia bikini. Well, that’s how it was billed.

Sports Illustrated has released their annual list of the fifty highest earning athletes in North America. A familiar face is again on top of the rankings. (SI Fortunate 50)

SI also released a list of the 20 highest athletes that aren’t Americans. Just goes to show you how ridiculous sports has gotten in the western hemisphere. (SI International 20)

On the opposite end of the scale, Sports Pickle found the 7 lowest earning athletes in the sporting world. (SP Unfortunate 7)

Entertainment Link-Off: Nerding It Up

Lowdown Blog readers should know that I usually just base the title of the ELO’s on a certain theme or ‘big ticket item’ of the weekend. Just to clarify, the title of the previous Entertainment Link-Off does not represent my interpretation of the film Inception. However I would like to point out that Inception is indeed a fantastic film, so go out and see it when you get the chance.

Kicking off this entry is Eva Mendes. Apparently she got some teenage boys really excited during The Other Guys panel on Friday.

Comic-Con 2010: Thursday Roundup

Comic-Con 2010 is here. The first day kicked off with plenty of excitement. Of course Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams were at hand to discuss about their projects (and Whedon officially confirms that he is directing The Avengers).
