2009 in Film: A Year in Review

2009 was another big year for movies thanks to 3D movies, sequels to giant blockbusters and ‘sexy’ vampires. With everything going on over the past year, it’s easy to forget about many of the films that were released. Just for kicks, let’s take a look back at the year of 2009. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Shop Til You Drop

It’s a slow week here since everyone is off on holidays. Today is Boxing Day, which means everyone is lined up at the malls looking for a deal. In fact, I’m heading out to grab something, so I’ll keep this one brief. For those that do not plan on heading out to the crowded shopping malls, here’s something for you to read! Kicking this off is Olivia Wilde. I swear these photoshoots are reminding me to go check out shows that I generally miss over the year. Alright, I’m off to grab some House DVDs! Yes I choose to watch Chuck live, so House tends to be on the back burner.

After the jump, brief tidbits on movies, the Home Alone Twitter Project and Glee Flashmob! Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Out of Body Experience

I was going to kick off the Entertainment Link-Off with Zoe Saldana in celebration of the release of Avatar. However, Jessica Stroup’s photoshoot with Complex snagged my attention sometime midweek and I changed my mind. After seeing this, I sort of regret not tuning into 90210 this season. Well since there isn’t anything on during the winter break… might as well catch up I suppose.

After the jump Snoop Dogg cooks brownies with Martha Stewart, some Avatar stuff, a really lengthy review of The Phantom Menace, Jack Bauer interrogates Santa and Tron Tennis! Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Is There A Doctor in the House?

It’s Saturday again, so that means the Entertainment Link-Off is here. This week features Nicky Whelan. She might be better known for her work in the Aussie soap Neighbours, but she’s currently on Scrubs as the hot Aussie med student Maya. I don’t think her name was mentioned once in the first 3 episodes this season and her entire screen time probably doesn’t exceed 5 minutes. Oh well, she’s there for eye candy purposes.

After the jump, some Avatar news, take a lesson on how to fire someone in Gotham City, a look at movies that should have never seen the light of day and Brian Cox teaches Hamlet to a 2 year old kid. Continue reading

Music Review: Westlife – Where We Are

Despite their amazing sales in the UK (and elsewhere in the world), Westlife have never conquered the American market. Perhaps America prefer boybands that could sing and dance as opposed to listening to four lads pump out tunes while sitting on stools. While the attempts to break the American market might seem futile, it certainly doesn’t stop them for trying to appeal to the audiences across the pond. After taking a year off and tweaking their sound slightly, Westlife is back in full force with their latest album ‘Where We Are’. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Twilight Link-Off Part Deux

Welcome to another edition of the Entertainment Link-Off. This weekend marks the release of Brothers which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire, who happen to look awfully alike. Yeah, it doesn’t sound all that appealing. Then they throw in Natalie Portman and suddenly I am interested.

After the jump, a few leftover Twilight related links, Iron Man stuff and Super Mario and Queen unite. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Black Friday Hangover

I’m sure everyone is exhausted from the endless shopping, so it’s time to just sit down, relax and check out this week’s Entertainment Link-Off. After a Twilight heavy link-off, let’s shift the focus to other stuff. This ELO features Anna Kendrick. She’ll be co-starring with George Clooney in the film Up in the Air. The critically acclaimed film directed by Jason Reitman is set to hit theatres next week. Hurray! We can simply forget that she was in that vampire movie that just came out.

After the jump, a few featurettes on Avatar, FOX announces its midseason schedule, some fun Star Wars stuff and more Lego awesomeness. Continue reading

Twilight Link-Off: Let the Wrong One In

There’s a lot of hoopla generated over the big weekend at the box office as hoards of teens, fangirls and maybe some fanboys flocked over to the theatres to see New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight series.

I haven’t seen New Moon, so I can’t go all out and bash it, but I have seen Twilight (not by choice). To be honest, Twilight wasn’t horrible, but at the same time it is not a good movie either. The fact that it is based on a mediocre novel series didn’t help its prospects. The acting was a bit wooden, but can you blame them? [See source material] Anyway, watching or reading Twilight is not as bad as sitting on an electric chair; however it doesn’t deserve all the hype it’s getting right now. If you truly appreciate a great vampire relationship movie, go check out the amazing, yet haunting Swedish flick ‘Let the Right One In’.

I can never seem to get into the whole vampire/human love thing. It worked to a certain extent in Underworld (which is another deeply flawed film) since the female vampire Selena was attracted to a human adult man. However, this concept doesn’t work so well in the Twilight series. It’s not the role reversal, it’s the age issue. Seriously girls, Edward might seem like the perfect guy for you, but does it not disturb you that the vampire is over 100 years old and he’s going out with a teenage girl? We do have a name for something like that in real life, they’re called pedophiles.

Over the past week, there have been plenty of Twilight related stuff piling up. In fact there’s so much that it’s getting it’s very own link-off! Just for kicks let’s take a look at one good and one bad attempt to defend the vampire saga and various items that poke fun or bash the Twilight series after the jump. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Alter the Ending

This week’s Entertainment Link-Off features Kristen Stewart. She’s currently starring in that vampire flick that all the ladies are flocking to this weekend. The books and movies might not be any good, but they’re doing a fine job sucking money out of people. Heck, I’m giving it free publicity by mentioning it here. Seriously, what’s so appealing about vampires that lacks the bite? Nevermind, they’re flailing over that dude who was offed by Voldemort.

After the jump more Twilight related stuff, Chuck returns, a few TV tidbits and a look at Dashboard Confessional’s latest album ‘Alter the Ending’. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Epic Disaster

summer glau 1This week the ELO features Summer Glau. She’ll be appearing in an upcoming episode of the recently canned Dollhouse. If FOX sticks to the schedule, she’ll be appearing on our TV screens on December 4th.

After the jump, Brett Ratner is a jack-ass, FOX has turned into the Seth MacFarlane Network and we take a look back at the loss of another great show. Continue reading
