This past Sunday was the 23rd Royal Rumble. Since the 1991, the winner of the Royal Rumble 30-man over-the-top-rope battle royale has been given an automatic title shot at WrestleMania. So who will be guaranteed a title match at the biggest show of the year and who will be holding the belts heading to Phoenix? More importantly, how good was the kick off of the road to WrestleMania? Entertainment Link-Off: And The Nominees Are…

It has nothing to do with movies but I think Katy Perry had to have been nominated for a Grammy.

The Oscar nominations were announced this week. To no one’s surprise, it was Avatar that led the way. (New York Times)

But the Oscars bore more than paint drying. No, the real money is at the Razzies. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which is Jackie’s favourite movie of all time, led the way there. (Daily Telegraph)

And it’s the best of the worst movies of all-time. Despite the love for Up in the Air, George Clooney’s turn as Batman is hated worse than Ben Mulroney. (CBC)

After the jump, something, something else, and it’s John Cleese Idol with Ben Mulroney. Continue reading

SI Swimsuit 2010 Cover Odds

One of the great perks that comes with a Sports Illustrated subscription is the mid-winter classic is getting the SI Swimsuit Issue. Last summer, models were secretly whisked off to tropical locales all over the world and photographed in complete secrecy… Well, at least when Twitter didn’t give us sneak peaks of what to expect. Anyway, even more shrouded in secrecy is the identity of the magazine’s cover model. Being the SI Swimsuit cover model is probably the highest honour that can be bestowed on a model. It comes with instant celebrity, international recognition, a blogosphere presence for life, and a blown-up copy of your cover in a random radio show studio in Connecticut.

So who are we tipping to be on the cover of the 48th edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue? Find out after the jump. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Stealing Attention

When was the last time we heard anything from Michelle Trachtenberg? This does nicely, though.

The Ottawa Senators held a charity event this week. Nobody cared about the hockey players, though. (CBC)

China renamed a mountain after Avatar to take credit for some of the artwork. (BBC) So this means that there’s a mountain in the Himalayas that should be named “Uncharted 2.” Awesome game by the way. As a system-exclusive game, it blows 360’s Halo out of the water.

Screech has fallen hard since Saved By The Bell. First there was the sex tape. Then an appearance on Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Wrestling. Now it’s the obligatory tell-all book. Some of his claims border on the utterly ridiculous but they’re attention grabbing. (11 Points)

After the jump, celebrity love gone wrong, fighting on TV, and Katy gets catty. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Cheers Conan

I know the post is about Conan O’Brien (mostly), but let’s start with the drop dead gorgeous ex-Friday Night Lights starlet Adrienne Palicki.

Let’s start with a recap of the final Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien (Kansas City Star)

Conan has to stay off TV for the next seven months but what if he never came back? He could make a huge impact on the interweb. (New York Times)

Did you know that Artie Lange (of talking about Joe Buck sucking cock fame) predicted that the whole Conan mess would happen? (The Comic’s Comic)

After the jump, lots more on Conan, slightly NSFW sports stuff, and some Simpsons just because. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: The Replacements

Jackie’s out and I’m in. The ELO is probably going to be a little different until Jackie gets back so settle in for a wild ride. Anyway, let’s kick things off with Blake Lively. If you check out my linkdumps regularly, you would see her fairly often.

Here’s an example of how things are different. Would Jackie link to a picture of a 5-year-old hitting a beer bong? The better question is who would let a 5-year-old hit a beer bong? (Lion’s Den U)

Maybe I’ll make up for that with the usual. Liam Neeson, maybe? How ’bout Rampage Jackson? Yes, it’s The A-Team trailer. (/Film)

And it’s time for your token Avatar is racist and anti-American essay. (New York Times)

After the jump, some sports/entertainment stuff, Leno vs. Conan, and the Taco Bell commercial girl. Continue reading

The History of Hulk Hogan’s Entrance Music

I know I’ve been overloading the pro wrestling post lately but I had good inspiration for this one. The gang at The Big Lead weren’t fond of the Hulkster’s new theme song from last Monday’s TNA Impact. Interestingly, that theme song was the music for WCW’s reformed NWO in 1999 and 2000.

Anyway, if there’s any wrestler that revolutionized music in wrestling, it was Hulk Hogan. His use of Eye of the Tiger as a theme song started the widespread use of entrance themes being used. If there is anyone who is as synonymous with a song as the original artist, it’s Hulk Hogan. So here’s a look at Hulk’s music through the years and the stories behind that music. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Be A Nerd, Join the Herd

This weekend marks the return of one of the best shows on network TV right now. Chuck premieres tomorrow night with 2 back to back new episodes followed by another new episode in its regular timeslot on Monday at 8 pm on NBC (CityTV in Canada). To celebrate this special occasion, here’s Yvonne Strahovski.

This post also marks my last Entertainment Link-Off before going on a 2 month hiatus. I can only assume that Steve is taking over, so he’ll keep you company for a little while.

After the jump Jay Leno’s in trouble at NBC, some more Avatar links, my own list of top 10 films of 2009 and Michael Cera shows some ‘range’ in his acting. Continue reading

WWE Raw Live Blog – Jan. 4, 2010

Tonight’s edition of WWE’s Monday Night Raw is live tonight from Dayton, Ohio. Tonight’s special guest host is the biggest one that the WWE has hired since starting the Raw guest host gimmick. While celebrities like Shaquille O’Neal and Bob Barker may have generated attention from the entertainment press, tonight’s host was one of the biggest stars of the Monday Night Wars when WWF and WCW generated combined cable TV ratings in the double digits. Tonight’s guest host is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Tonight’s guest host is Bret “Hitman” Hart.

Check out the live blog after the jump. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: The New Year Is Here!

Happy New Year!!! Welcome to the first edition of the Entertainment Link-Off in 2010. Let’s kick off the new year with Isabel Lucas. She can be seen in the upcoming vampire flick Daybreakers, which is out next week.

After the jump a brief look back into 2009, Ricky Gervais and Elmo reunite and another James Cameron/Avatar related video. I sent Steve the link to the ‘making of the bootleg’ video and he poached it and put it in his Wednesday Link-Off. Bastard. Continue reading
