Entertainment Link-Off: Feelin’ Energetic

boaComic-Con 2009 is finally here! I will be posting tidbits on a handful of events from the convention very soon and that includes my thoughts on the unaired Dollhouse episode Epitaph One. Meanwhile keep an eye out for the trailer watch. Anyway it’s time for another edition of the Entertainment Link-Off! Sorry for the slight delay in posting this, but I was overwhelmed with nerdism. Headlining this article is BoA, who recently released the music video for her latest single ‘Energetic’ through Entertainment Weekly. The song was also featured in our Lowdown Music Special earlier this year.

After the jump, some funny Harry Potter stuff, brief movie/TV updates, BoA’s new music video and Darth Vader does MC Hammer. Continue reading

Comic-Con 2009: Trailer Watch

Comic-Con season is finally here! Fanboys and fangirls everywhere will be crowding around San Diego for a weekend full of nerdism. Aside from the latest buzz on our favourite superheroes, there will be plenty of panels for current and new TV shows as well as upcoming film releases. Since this is such a popular event, it would be appropriate for studios to release new trailers for movies that will be hitting a theatre near you. Remember to check back regularly as this will be updated as we go along! Continue reading

Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

harry potter and the half blood princeAs mentioned in my Entertainment Link-Off, here is the movie review for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The latest entry to the Harry Potter film series drops the bright, light-hearted tone of the previous films and attempts to capture the dark nature of… teenage romance? Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Do You Believe In Magic?

zooey deschanelForget about the little boy wizard known as Harry Potter. Since the screaming fangirls will be crowding the theatres to see that, let’s take a look at an alternative option. This weekend also marks the release of the quirky comedy 500 Days of Summer starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel (pictured). Seriously, if you already read the Harry Potter books, you’ll know how it ends. Go watch something fresh instead and check out the amazing chemistry between Zooey and her talented co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Since this is a FOX Searchlight release, expect the platform rollout which means the film will hit the larger cities first before spreading to other areas. Here is the release schedule so that you can check if it’s going to be playing in a theatre near you this weekend. (500days.com)

After the jump, small tidbits on TV, 3D Movies, Harry Potter and zombies! Continue reading

Music Review: Daughtry – Leave This Town

daughtry leave this townIt seems as though there are many artists and bands that are following the “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” mentality. Daughtry’s first album had a nice combination of pop and rock and it certainly appealed to a large audience as the album sold more than 5 million copies worldwide. The follow-up album Leave This Town does not deviate very far from their debut CD and it should please all the existing fans out there. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Splash or Splat!

UPDATE: The finale for Harper’s Island was appropriately titled “Sigh”. The limited-run series went out barely noticed as it snagged about 3.84 million viewers during its final two hours. It’s too bad. While the series itself was uneven (a mixed bag of great and mediocre moments), it was a fun thrill ride overall. I wasn’t thrilled with the ending, but it was satisfying. Kudos to CBS for airing all the episodes despite the lack of eyeballs tuning in. (TV by the Numbers)

Steve beat me to it and already featured Katie Cassidy in his Wednesday Link-Off. However, that doesn’t stop me from featuring her again in celebration of the Harper’s Island finale tonight at 9 p.m. on CBS. Most Canadian viewers may have already watched the finale on Thursday night, but to those who haven’t seen it or if you don’t have anything better to do tonight, just sit back and enjoy 2 hours worth of a fun slasher-fest.

I’m kicking this off with a non-entertainment news. Facebook users entering university watch out! There are fake university groups popping up because of those evil marketing companies! (The Toronto Star) Alright everyone, to be on the safe side, let’s all just go to the South Harmon Institute of Technology. We know that school is legit.

After the jump some movie news to tickle the moviebuffs, what James Franco’s UCLA commencement speech would have been like and things that will make a splash or fail miserably.

Entertainment Link-Off: It’s Saturday!

the saturdays 11The hottest UK girl group The Saturdays are in the middle of their first series of headline concerts “The Work Tour” right now. The tour also features newcomer supporting act Pixie Lott. Now that sounds like an amazing pop music experience! The physical release of The Saturdays’ latest single “Work” has finally hit the store shelves on Monday. The single has peaked at #30 on downloads alone. Can the girls finally get their first UK #1 hit?

The song is a fun track to listen to. If you missed it, you can see their hot music video here!

After the jump CW’s downward spiral continues, some movie news and Leighton Meester’s latest video (sorry guys, I’m -not- talking about this).

Entertainment Link-Off: I <3 Science Fiction!

isabel lucas 2Steve did a great job covering for me yesterday by moving his Sunday Link-Off a day early. I was supposed to sit in front of my computer and type this up yesterday, but turns out that I am a social animal after all. In celebration of the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, here is a picture of Isabel Lucas. Since Megan Fox tends to steal the spotlight everywhere, it’s be time to have the spotlight shifted to another sultry female cast member in the movie.

Speaking of the latest Transformers flick, don’t forget to check out my review here.

After the jump, mostly sci fi related news, why Heroes sucks and what is “Paul”?

Movie Review: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

transformers revenge of the fallen 2At last year’s Comic Con, there were t-shirts everywhere promoting Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen that had the slogan ”Bigger. F—ing. Robots” written on them. In the latest addition to the Transformers franchise, Michael Bay lived up to that promise. Revenge of the Fallen is bigger, louder, flashier and crazier than the first live action Transformers flick two years ago. However, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better and it seems like Revenge of the Fallen may already be suffering from sequelitis.
