Scott Pilgrim vs. the World might not be able to light up the box office in the present, but in 10-15 years from now, this film would have established itself as a cult hit or better yet, it will solidify its title as the defining movie of the Nintendo generation. Edgar Wright has taken the tale of Scott Pilgrim and created one of the most exhilarating, flashy, heartfelt, honest, original mainstream films out there. Top 10 Motorsports Temper Moments
A couple of weeks ago, TSN’s SportsCentre paid homage to Helio Castroneves’ blowup on Izod IndyCar officials at the Honda Edmonton Indy by running a list of the Top 10 meltdowns in sports. While it was entirely appropriate, the problem was that they ran the exact same top ten the week before. If they put in five minutes worth of effort into their segments, they would have found that there are loads of moments in motorsports history where people let their tempers get the best of them.

Lowdown Radio Classic: May 13, 2008
For this week’s classic episode of The Lowdown BlogCast, we turn the clocks back over two years. It was our first, and so far only, Lowdown of the Pops special. In this episode, Steve and Jackie play some great songs by bands that you’d likely never heard of before. Since we broadcast this, at least one of these bands has gotten a couple of breaks. Our music episode features musicians from Canada, America and England covering several genres from folk to rap to rock. Incidentally, this episode got the boys in trouble with their ex-broadcasters. Apparently playing any music during a talk show is a no-no.

Happy Madden 11 Day
Today is that other football-related unofficial national holiday. The day after the Super Bowl is an unofficial holiday so people can deal with their hangovers. The day that the new edition of Madden hits the shelves is the other unofficial holiday so people can play all day and win the Super Bowl. But for all the realism that EA Sports is shoving into Madden 11, they’re still doing things that make the game still feel like a video game. Continue reading

If it’s not worth talking about then it must be time for the Not News of the Week.
A recent international study says that the most foul-mouthed country in the world is Canada. The study showed that 56% of Canadians swear frequently or occasionally when talking with friends. In Britain, that number is 51% while the US brings up the rear with 46%. Also, nearly three-quarters of Canadians say they swear in front of their families compared to two-thirds of Americans and Brits. Apparently the worst offenders in Canada are the Quebecois. Basically, this survey is trying to disprove that typical Canadian stereotype of being overly polite but it’s entirely pointless and proves nothing. Fuck whoever came up with this idea. Entertainment Link-Off: Dance Like No One’s Watching
It’s the first weekend of August and the summer movies are starting to come to an end. This weekend there’s the dance movie franchise with declining popularity with Step Up 3D starring Aussie actress Sharni Vinson. The Step Up flicks aren’t that great plot-wise, but they fun to check out. However, I think the buddy cop comedy The Other Guys seem to be tracking better and is generating a lot more laughter as well. Plus, how can you not like a film with a loaded cast of Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Sam Jackson and Dwayne Johnson?
