Sunday Link-Off: Back Story

The ESPYs were last week. They serve no purpose at all but we did get to see Brooklyn Decker. That’s got to count for something.

By now, I’m sure you’ve seen the double rainbow guy video. But did you know that the double rainbow guy is a former MMA fighter? (Out of Bounds)

Fans are really into some of the most inconsequential characters in the Star Wars universe. Here are 10 of those characters with back stories that aren’t the slightest bit necessary. (Topless Robot)

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was fined $100,000 for telling LeBron James where to stick it in that epic letter of his. Some Cleveland fans are taking it upon themselves to help their owner pay that fine. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

After the jump, some video game stories, douchebaggery at ESPN, and LeBron’s heel turn. Continue reading

Lowdown BlogCast: June 8, 2010

The Lowdown Radio Show is now The Lowdown BlogCast. While the show is under a different name, it’s the same insanity that you’ve come to love. The boys start by explaining how the radio show was unceremoniously dropped. From there, the boys talk about video games starting with EA Sports’ NHL 11 and end up talking about graphics improvements since the last generation of consoles. A mention of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico degenerates into bashing of America’s ridiculous Republican media. Toronto sports is discussed with Hedo Turkoglu wanting out of town and Doc Halladay’s perfect game among other things. Entertainment is still there with Jackie’s Single of the Week, It Came From YouTube, and the Worst of Music. The show ends with the boys previewing the 2010 World Cup. In all, it’s 75 minutes of the same Lowdown fun that you know and love.

Sunday Link-Off: Hard Hitting

Making her first appearance on the blog, here’s former tennis player (definitely not tennis star) Anna Kournikova.

Here’s a cool CIS story. Some of the football players at the University of Montreal will be making an appearance in next year’s Madden game. Thing is you won’t actually see them in the game. (CIS Blog)

In other CIS news, did you know that the OUA’s scholarship rules include a gender balance rule? I don’t think seven Ontario schools knew. (CBC)

In case you didn’t notice, Tiger Woods is playing golf this weekend. Heading into today’s action, he was four strokes off the lead. His chase won’t be helped by some messages being sent from above. (Sports By Brooks)

After the jump, some baseball links, some football links, and hockey quasi-revenge. Continue reading

EA Sports Announces CIS Football Video Game

In an announcement that may shake the foundation of the video game industry, EA Sports announced the launch of a new video game franchise. This August, EA Sports will release the first ever CIS Football video game which will be developed, appropriately, by EA Canada out of Burnaby, British Columbia. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: It’s A Fight

The Golden Globes were last weekend. Speaking of golden globes, here’s Christina Hendricks.

People visit emergency rooms for such random reasons. God help America. (Deadspin)

Jim Nantz and CBS are bringing you the latest from disaster riddled Haitia. (The Sporting Blog)

The Irish love to fight. They don’t even have to be drunk to have a proper brawl in the middle of a field. Wait, it was a soccer game? Did they think they were hockey players? (Unprofessional Foul)

After the jump, hockey fights in Canada, rickrolling God, and Brett Favre forgot his belt so his pants hit the ground. Continue reading

On the Extra, there’s additional talk about DJ Hero, Band Hero, and Lego Rock Band. Somehow they worked a lengthy discussion about Heidi Klum in there as well as throughout the show.  They also pick out a couple more trinkets worth buying. The news features new stories about aliens from outer space and a Santa getting fired. There’s a bonus It Came From YouTube as well as Ke$ha being awarded the worst of music. Another car gets added to the car wall and more players get nominated for Olympic hockey team consideration. There’s an additional 54 minutes on this edition of The Lowdown Extra to make it 1:22:37 in length. That makes it the longest podcast in Lowdown and CHRW history by 13 minutes. Sunday Link-Off: A Train Wreck

Here’s Leighton Meester. She’s not quite Blake Lively but she does have a sex tape so bonus points there.

This is easily the greatest fan rant of all time. (No Spain, No Gain) Actually, if you substitute “Grimsby Town” with “Toronto Maple Leafs,” you’d have a fairly accurate idea of how Leafs fans feel.

I don’t think that “vintage” is the right word to describe some of these wrestling promos. However, “train wreck” is right on the money. (Gunaxin)

Train wreck is also a good way to describe this list of the 50 greatest MMA dominations. Somehow, Kimbo Slice’s loss to that pink haired guy isn’t on there. How much did Dana White pay to make that fight disappear? (Complex)

After the jump, the least valuable players and coaches, Stamkos shows why he was drafted #1 and the worst video acting ever. Continue reading

Video Game Review: Fight Night Round 4

fight-night-round-4-ps3-coverFight Night Round 4 is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Some of the hype has to do with the fact that the graphics looks great. Some of it has to do with the fact that FNR3 was a great game in its own right. But I think that cover really put it over the top. The hype machine was running on all cylinders with the release of this game. Does this game live up to the hype and become a legend like some of the fighters in the game? Find out after the jump. Video Game Review: NCAA Football 10

ncaa-football-10-ps3-coverNCAA Football 10 is the 13th iteration of the critically acclaimed college football video game. This year’s edition is the third on the PS3 which I’m reviewing it on. The challenge with sports games like this is that, since it comes out every year, a lot of work has to go into it to keep it fresh. It’s easy to just sit back and only update the rosters and playbooks every season. Instead, EA Sports has gone big with this edition with two big new features and a major overhaul of another game mode. So do the changes make NCAA 10 the first must play college football game on PS3 or is it just another step in the right direction? Find out after the jump. Continue reading
