Calgary Flames’ Twitter Account Doesn’t Think Much Of Hemsky

The Calgary Flames official twitter account (@NHLFlames) thinks 2 years at $5 million per season for Ales Hemsky is a bit too big a contract.

Saving NBC’s Community: Phase One – Occupy

At the risk of sounding like I’m completely biased in this fight (which I am), those bastards at NBC are screwing us again. They’ve pulled Community from the mid-season schedule. While they say that the show hasn’t been cancelled, we can’t take this as an indication that the show won’t be cancelled. Industry insiders seem reasonably calm that the show will survive for another season because a fourth season will make it eligible to be syndicated which both NBC and Sony (Community’s studio) would benefit from.

I think it’s time we launch a pre-emptive strike to save one of the best shows on television. After all, similar fan campaigns have saved shows like Friday Night Lights. However, this needs a multi-pronged attack in order to ensure that our voices are heard. Phase One of our campaign to save Community is called Occupy. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: At Week’s End

Well, it’s definitely been an interesting week in the world. We can’t come close to wrapping it up so we’ll just give you some interesting stuff. For example, Ana Hickman popped up on our radars this week which was a very interesting development.

The Humanoids: Don’t Hate The Player

It’s been an interesting week in the world. Two sports figures caught some major flak for their Halloween costumes. Another sports figure got divorced. And 12-year-olds have cemented their control over Twitter while their hero gets dragged into his first real scandal. It’s almost the status quo. But no one ever said that the status quo was always boring. Continue reading

How People Are Using Twitter (Infographic)

I’m an unabashed Twitter addict. Whenever I’m working on the blog, I have TweetDeck running in the background. I’m always tweeting and retweeting throughout the day. So naturally, I get a lot of questions from people I know about why they would need Twitter and complaints that they have nothing to Tweet about. Well, they aren’t alone according to this infographic about Twitter. It’s a graphical breakdown of a survey about Twitter and there’s definitely things to learn about Tweeps from it. Sunday Link-Off: Let’s Make A Deal

If it’s Sunday, then it’s time for another set of our Sunday morning links. Let’s kick off with Candice Swanepoel who’s trying out of of Victoria’s Secret’s new workout attire. Insert easy workout joke here.

Good news for Canadians: Rob Faulds will be at the London Olympics and Rogers Sportsnet and TSN are putting their top anchors head-to-head in the morning. The bad news: Gord Miller is calling Track and Field. So much for watching the Olympics next year. (Fang’s Bites)

And speaking of failed broadcasting deals, the BBC is splitting F1 coverage with Sky Sports next year. Suffice to say, it’s not going over well. (Joe Saward’s Grand Prix Blog)

One weekend every year, the City Centre Airport in Edmonton is shut down to host the elite of North American open-wheel racing. . Since 2005, the Edmonton Indy had played host to the stars of Champ Car and the Izod IndyCar Series. After a controversial race two weeks ago on the streets of downtown Toronto, 26 IndyCars trekked across Canada for the second of two Canadian stops for the Izod IndyCar Series. Would there be payback from the events of the Toronto Indy or would everyone play nice under the watchful eye of IndyCar officials? Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Clear Eyes

Because of all the Friday Night Lights wrap-up links I have in here, I have to kick off with the lovely ladies of FNL that Jackie omitted yesterday. It’s Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki and Connie Britton.

So I was wrong when I posted a link a few weeks ago about the FNL series finale. The finale aired weeks ago in Canada but FNL just wrapped up in the USA this past Friday. In honour of the end of the best sports show ever, here’s the oral history of Friday Night Lights. (Grantland)

Part of what made FNL great was the soundtrack which helped to make it feel like a Texas football show despite the fact that all the actors were at least in their 20s and mostly from well outside the deep south. Here are the best songs from FNL’s five season run. (GQ)

Deadspin has done it again. They’ve obtained the audited financial statements of the arm of the NFL that brings in all the league-wide revenue. They only made 10 figures of profit last year. (Deadspin)

After the jump, happy 5th Twitter, the self-destruction of RIM and CM Punk is at it again. Continue reading

For the 25th time, IndyCar tore up the streets of downtown Toronto for Canada’s fastest street party. Twenty-six cars including Canadians Paul Tracy, Alex Tagliani and James Hinchcliffe made up the field for a race that was a complete demolition derby. Continue reading

Let’s kick off today’s linkdump with Miranda Kerr. Did you know that she had a kid in January? I don’t think you can tell.

UFC 129 will be Toronto’s first UFC show and it’ll be at SkyDome to make it the UFC’s biggest show ever. But since Toronto is really a hockey town, here’s a guide to the UFC for hockey fans. (Down Goes Brown)

Have you been on Hockey Night In Canada’s site lately? They’ve gone all in on social media integration for their new Hockey Night Pulse game companion thing. (Pension Plan Puppets)

And speaking of social media, Klout have released their ratings of the top athletes on Twitter. (CNBC)

After the jump, the NFL lockout is over, a royal wedding primer and the most random Walker, Texas Ranger clip ever. Continue reading
