Wednesday Link-Off: Labour Day Blues

emmanuelle-chriqui-miami13-04With Labour Day come and gone, I think that means that summer is over. Well, I think summer was over early for me. It was 13°C on Monday. I’m glad that I did my grilling on Saturday and Sunday instead because I would have needed a winter coat for Labour Day.

Anyway, it’s time for the links. Let’s kick this post off with Emmanuelle Chriqui.

The Republicans have cold feet on intervention in Syria. This doesn’t have to do with principles or intelligence but politics… Of course it is. (Mediaite)

A gay rights activist was arrested under Russia’s new anti-gay laws. Cruelly, the man was turned in to police by his own parents. (Pink News)

How has political campaign reporting changed since the advent of Twitter as a source of disseminating news in near real-time. (New York Times)

Sunday Link-Off: Courting Controversy

anna-kendrick-gq13-01It’s the end of the week and hopefully we can get the blog running like normal next week. Okay, this blog you won’t notice it on but on et geekera you will. Well, the IndyCar report will be back this week with some F1 too. Speaking of normal things on the blog, here’s Anna Kendrick who is one of our favourite women in the world.

What does it say when The Onion makes the most compelling argument for military intervention in Syria? (The Onion)

If you work for Glenn Beck and use eco-friendly lightbulbs, you’re going to lose your job. (Yahoo)

It’s the article that has everyone talking. It’s Rolling Stone’s profile of former NFL player and accused murderer Aaron Hernandez. (Rolling Stone)

Entertainment Link-Off: Running on Fumes

selena gomezIt’s a whole lotta rotten movies at the theatres this weekend, so we’ve officially hit the dog days of summer… At least you can catch Selena Gomez playing Ethan Hawke’s sidekick in the film Getaway. Though, the 2% Tomatometer might be a good deterring factor.

After the jump, Morgan Freeman learns what twerking is, a few summer releases are returning to theatres for a second run, Zack Snyder thinks mass destruction in Man of Steel is cool, watch an animated alternate ending to Iron Man 3 and a nifty short on how all the awesome girls just happen to be taken. Where the single ladies at? Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Back to Business

jennifer-garner-allure13-01I’m back on duty with the Wednesday links. I’m trying to do up a Fan Expo experience post for the end of the week but I can’t guarantee it. If not this week, definitely next week. There are definitely some things that happen that don’t go mainstream so I’m planning to tell those tales.

In the meantime, since we have a new Batman, here’s Jennifer Garner.

We might write-off moronic statements by politicians as pandering to their base but in other countries, they take these statements seriously. In Egypt, moronic statements are undermining America’s influence in the country during its unrest. (MSNBC)

The Republican’s game of political chicken with Obamacare could make or break their electoral chances. The only problem is that they have a tall order ahead of them convincing the electorate that Obamacare won’t work when it sounds like a great idea. (The Week)

Here’s a theory I’ve never heard before. Did Bobby Riggs throw his tennis match against Billie Jean King at the mafia’s orders. (Outside the Lines)

Sunday Link-Off: Worlds Will Collide

lily collinsIt’s Sunday morning, and it’s time for another installment of the link-off. Steve is off this weekend as he is exploring the awesomeness of Fan Expo. It’s only fair I sub in for him as he’s been doing that for me everytime I can’t get around to the ELO. Kicking off the SLO today is Lily Collins. You can catch her in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which is apparently not doing so hot in theatres at the moment.

After the jump, guys aren’t as shallow as you think, apparently we all need to be potty trained again, Obama wants less school for law students, a few “what were they thinking?!” moments, the elderly reacts to Bieber and watch one of the best “come on down” moments in The Price is Right. Entertainment Link-Off: Say When

olivia wildeSo it’s reaching the tail end of the summer releases now. The film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is out. Apparently it is a bit crammed and hard to follow. Perhaps you should go see Drinking Buddies starring Olivia Wilde.

After the jump, big casting news is spreading over the Twittersphere, Joss Whedon doesn’t love The Empire Strikes Back, box office bombs and Ryan Higa shows us all the ultimate handshake. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Left or Right

chrissy-teigen-beachbunny13-25It’s the middle of the week which means that it’s time for us to do the links. Let’s start this post with Chrissy Teigen.

Scientists are more convinced than ever that humans are speeding up global warming. (Think Progress)

New Jersey governor Chris Christie has banned gay conversion therapy. Makes sense since gay conversion therapy is basically a lie. (Politico)

Sunday Link-Off: Burning Bridges

It’s the end of the week which means it’s time for some links. A quick FYI: Jackie’s taking over the Sunday links next week while I’m off. It also means that I won’t have an IndyCar write-up for you next week either. Granted, that terrible schedule of their’s probably deserves its own write-up.

For now, here’s Maitland Ward who you might remember from Boy Meets World and not a whole lot since.

Things have pretty well completely gone to hell in Egypt. Here’s one reporters look inside the protests where he got caught up in the violence. (The Daily Beast)

The investigation into the Rob Ford crack tape hasn’t ended. Police are looking to Ford friends who tried to acquire the tapes themselves. (Toronto Star)

Al-Qaeda tried using Twitter to solicit media tips. Well-intentioned Twitter users took the opportunity to troll them. (BuzzFeed)

lindy booth kick ass premiereThere is some competition at the box office this weekend. While Apple fans might want to see Ashton Kutcher portray Steve Jobs in… Jobs, the rest of us can go check out the highly anticipated sequel Kick Ass 2. You can catch fellow Canadian Lindy Booth in the film as Night Bitch.

After the jump, Steve Wozniak has some kind and not so kind words for the film Jobs, some aca-awesome news, Sly is right about Bruce Willis, Donald Glover gets serious, Oprah just loves giving away stuff and Jeremy Lin has changed since his basketball career has taken off.  Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Domestic Incident

karlie-kloss-victoriassecret13-11After Monday, I kind of wondered if I was going to have even a half-dozen links. Fortunately, today’s links turned out reasonably. A lot of them are news and politics but I think you’ve come to expect that by now.

Anyway, let’s start the links with American model Karlie Kloss who makes her first appearance on the blog.

Is it nice to see someone being so openly biased against the other party? Texas’ Attorney General says that they redrew districts to maximize the chances of a GOP win in those districts. (Mother Jones)

The NYT was able to score a Q&A with Edward Snowden. Here’s a transcript. (New York Times)
