Sunday Link-Off: Going, Going, Jian

In fast, if you’re Jian, it’s getting worse because your statement said it was one jilted ex-girlfriend but it’s now accusations from 10 different women. Maybe the CBC made the right call on this one. Considering how badly they botched the NHL deal, they were due to get something right.

Anyway, it’s time for the Sunday set of links. For something a little special, here are Rashida Jones, Kate Hudson and Olivia Wilde.

In the last few days, four more women have come forward with allegations about sexual violence and/or harassment by Jian Ghomeshi. One of them, an actress on Trailer Park Boys, has put her name to the accusation. (Toronto Star)

CBC Radio had an interview with a women about Ghomeshi on their flagship evening show, As It Happens. She detailed her time with Ghomeshi and, as we’ve come to expect, it’s not pretty. (The Globe and Mail)

Entertainment Link-Off: Go Further

Wednesday Link-Off: The Old Guard and New

genevieve-morton-sisouthafrica14-04Well, this was certainly an interesting week to live in Ontario. First, the CBC Radio’s top daytime host is fired after they found out about a number of allegations involving sexual harassment and non-consensual sexual violence which resulted in him filing a lawsuit. There were municipal elections across the province that saw Rob Ford become a Toronto city councillor and Doug just miss becoming mayor. And I’m sure there’s loads more that happened that I’m not covering in today’s links.

But before we get to today’s links, here’s Genevieve Morton.

Unless you’ve been under a rock this week, CBC Radio host Jian Ghomeshi was fired after a number of allegations of non-consensual sexual violence and sexual harassment. (Toronto Star)

One expert analysed the Star’s story and Ghomeshi’s statement and looked at the real issues and inconsistencies in the stories. (Sex Geek)

Many people don’t believe the accusations against Ghomeshi because the accusers aren’t going to police and have chosen to remain anonymous. However, they’re taking this course of action because of a fear of harassment and threats. (New York Times)

Sunday Link-Off: Canada Strong

anais-pouliot-urbanoutfitters14-43When I posted Wednesday’s links, I couldn’t have imagined how the rest of the day would have played out. I’m glad that Canada was able to pick itself up, dust itself off and carry on without being paralyzed with fear or hate.

Entertainment Link-Off: Big Screen or Little Screen

adrianne-palicki-johnwick14-04Howdy folks. It’s Steve in for Jackie this week. He picked a good week for me to come in to do the links as a substitute because Marvel and DC are keeping us busy with their ongoing movie and TV efforts. The various six-year plans of the two comic publishers have me wondering what their TV plans are. DC are pushing TV over movies while Marvel aren’t putting any money into live-action TV. While DC is putting Justice League (including JLA/U and JLD) characters on TV, Marvel has licensed almost all their characters for movies so there isn’t much left for TV and they don’t want to give the big names recurring cameos on Agents of SHIELD which makes it look like an afterthought despite being really good this year.

Wednesday Link-Off: The Real News

kim-cloutier-3suisses14-02Well, I don’t know about you but this has seemed like a busy week after only three days. I’ve been lacking writing time at the start of the week but at least we should be good through the end of the week. Or at least I hope so. It’s been so busy that I have enough news stories that I don’t have to give a fashion designer’s death third billing. Good job, CBC.

Sunday Link-Off: Foreign Affairs

For example, a effects of a war in another part of the world will be front page news in this part. A lot of the news stories in this week’s SLO have an international impact.

So with that preamble out of the way, it’s time for the links. Here’s Penelope Cruz who was named Esquire’s sexiest woman alive. Before anyone complains, realize that it’s all marketing for everyone involved.

Former Prime Minister Jean Chretien wrote an op-ed supporting a non-combat role against ISIS which once again puts him opposed to Stephen Harper’s Middle East military policy. Chretien was right in 2003. Could he be right again here? (The Globe and Mail)

Entertainment Link-Off: In A Flash

danielle panabakerSo the Fall TV season is in high gear as most of the new and returning shows have premiered. A standout this season is The Flash, which is carrying some solid ratings (for the CW anyway). So far, after 2 episodes, it certainly has me hooked. It probably helps that Danielle Panabaker appears in the series as Caitlin Snow.

Wednesday Link-Off: The Finger Thing Means The Taxes

Sunday Link-Off: Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving

lauren-cohan-gq14-04Good news! It’s Thanksgiving weekend in Canada which means copious amounts of turkey. Bad news! We have to sit through the Yanks doing the same in a month-and-a-half. It’s probably a good thing to space out Thanksgiving and Christmas like us Canucks because 1) that means that you’re not freezing during Thanksgiving weekend and can actually go outside; and 2) there’s not a run on the turkeys all at once.

Anyway, since The Walking Dead is back this weekend, here’s Lauren Cohen. Has the show gotten any better since early Season Four? I kind of wish I abandoned it earlier than that.
