The third week of the CFL season was a tribute to its history. Each team played its games in a 1960’s retro jersey during the CFL’s Retro Week. While all the games weren’t vintage rivalries didn’t mean that the teams didn’t give their all and go hard for the win. Among the big games for the week were Saskatchewan and Montreal battling to be the sole remaining undefeated team this season. Sunday Link-Off: A Hive of Scum and Randominity
January Jones is not described accurately by the title of this post. Though I would imagine that her Emmy-nominated show, Mad Men, could be described as such.

The Humanoids: Excuse The Abbreviation
Sorry but today is a slightly shortened edition of The Humanoids. By slightly shortened, I mean that I could only think of eight instead of nine victims. Mind you, with the readership number I usually get, I would have to think that no one will notice. But I’m sure that someone cares that my column was abbreviated because I had to be elsewhere today. I figure that, even though we have more visitors to the blog in a day than listeners to our radio show in a season, most people are here for the pretty pictures.
Anyway, we’ve been working hard on the radio show over the last week. For the next season, we are planning on launching a Facebook fan page, a Twitter account, a Talkshoe account, and a YouTube channel. That’s all the fun technical stuff that involved in running a crazy bi-weekly radio show. Meanwhile, we’re still pulling together segment ideas for the next season. Expect a lot more of us and less of those big feature segments. One new segment we’re going to frequent is “It’s New But Is it Any Good?” where we’ll review new products on the market to see if they’re worth buying. It’s not a great idea but we’re working on it. I’m sure we’ll have a great season upcoming. But that’s then, this is now so let’s roll on. Continue reading

Do Politics and Sports Mix?
Tonight, U.S. President Barack Obama is throwing out the first pitch at the MLB All-Star Game in St. Louis. He’s following this with an appearance in the FOX broadcast booth where he’ll likely talk all things sports and baseball related. During the 2008 election campaign, the media kept mentioning that Obama would try to get college football to abolish the BCS and institute a playoff. That’s not even mentioning that championship sports teams all get invites to the White House to meet the President. But is there any reason why politics and sports should mix? Continue reading

Remember: If it’s not worth talking about, then it’s definitely not news. This week’s Not News theme is booze and porn. Things that actually come up quite often on the radio show.
The Beer on the Wye festival in Herefordshire, England was supposed to run until Sunday night before they ran into a problem. They had a bigger turnout than expect that drank more per person than expected and ran the taps dry on Saturday. The organizers thought they had enough beer to handle the larger crowd (30% larger than the previous year’s) but ordered another 200 gallons of beer on Saturday just in case it was needed. Turns out that it wasn’t enough. Unfortunately that meant the cancellation of Sunday’s Family Day at the beer festival. Continue reading
F1 German GP: The Problem With Brawn
Mark Webber got a drive-through penalty for a small run-in with Rubens Barrichello at the start of the race but that didn’t stop him from winning his first F1 race. Perhaps the more intriguing story is that Rubens and Brawn couldn’t turn an early race lead and Webber’s penalty into the win. Maybe the political fun and games with Max was more interesting. Toronto Indy Wrapup and Retweets
Open-wheel racing returned with a bang to Exhibition Place in Toronto. The IndyCar Series brought 23 cars to the show including Canadian heroes Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani. The whole race was exciting from start to finish and there were some wild moments throughout. I was live tweeting the event so here’s a look at some of tweets and analysis from this afternoon’s race. Football Night In Canada: Saturday at Skydome
The second week of CFL came to an end in a Saturday afternoon matinee at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Saskatchewan Roughriders returned to the place of the 2007 Grey Cup triumph to face the home town Argonauts.
