Entertainment Link-Off: Settling A Score

It’s September already?! Time certainly flies. So now that the summer burn-offs are out of the way, there’s finally a few movies to go see at the theatres again! Most notable one is the action throwback movie Machete starring Danny Trejo. He might not be the eye candy you’re looking for, but he does make a badass action hero. Speaking of eye candy, Jessica Alba is in this movie!

After the jump, a look at a Tron theme park, something that will help you understand Inception better, James Cameron fights off Piranhas, some love for Scott Pilgrim in the UK and watch out for a Hobo with a Shotgun. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Dog Days of Summer

You know it’s the end of the summer when there are no new releases worth mentioning in theatres this weekend. Unless you feel like checking out the special edition of Avatar, perhaps it’s worth pointing out that Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is still in theatres at the moment! That’s why I’m starting this entry off with Ramona Flowers, I mean Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

After the jump M. Night Shyamalan pokes fun at himself, Jennifer Aniston makes desperate attention seeking move, Lex Luthor and Joker channel their inner Calvin and Hobbes, a look at the Tron-a-Sutra, some awesome Scott Pilgrim mashups and Ving Rhames wins the Best Actor Oscar. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Summer Leftovers

With all the major summer films out, it’s time for the summer leftovers. Not a single of the new releases this weekend is expected to make a large blip at the box office. However one of the world’s greatest travesties just might happen if Vampires Suck out-grosses Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. So please go see Scott Pilgrim instead of that lame attempt at a Twilight spoof! In fact, it pains me to say it, but go see the actual Twilight film instead of that piece of crap. Anyway, kicking off this Entertainment Link-Off is Jessica Szohr. She’ll be appearing in the gory fish thriller Piranha 3D this weekend. Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t look like it’ll be making that big of a splash.

After the jump, a farewell to At the Movies, a few attempts to convince you to go see Scott Pilgrim, McFly’s new music video, Oscars for Piranha 3D and Joseph Gordon-Levitt feels like a natural woman. Continue reading

Movie Review: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World might not be able to light up the box office in the present, but in 10-15 years from now, this film would have established itself as a cult hit or better yet, it will solidify its title as the defining movie of the Nintendo generation. Edgar Wright has taken the tale of Scott Pilgrim and created one of the most exhilarating, flashy, heartfelt, honest, original mainstream films out there. We may only be eight months into 2010, but this film has already established itself as one of the best of the year. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Hit Love Where It Hurts

Steve will be away this weekend so the Sunday Link-Off will be taking a break. Instead, be on a lookout for the review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World tomorrow night! Speaking of Scott Pilgrim, the comic book-turned-live action feature is out this week. If you’re from Toronto, show some T-dot love and go see this movie. Kicking off this week’s Entertainment Link-Off is Ellen Wong, who has a role as one of Scott’s many love interests, Knives Chau.

After the jump, plenty more Scott Pilgrim related links, a few nifty features of The Other Guys and Friday Night Lights sets a return date. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Dance Like No One’s Watching

It’s the first weekend of August and the summer movies are starting to come to an end. This weekend there’s the dance movie franchise with declining popularity with Step Up 3D starring Aussie actress Sharni Vinson. The Step Up flicks aren’t that great plot-wise, but they fun to check out. However, I think the buddy cop comedy The Other Guys seem to be tracking better and is generating a lot more laughter as well. Plus, how can you not like a film with a loaded cast of Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Sam Jackson and Dwayne Johnson?

After the jump a lot of new Scott Pilgrim promo stuff to check out, the characters of Inception doesn’t quite get inception, Little Fockers is a little focked and Eva Mendes’ sex tape! Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Smooth Sailing

The movie Charlie St. Cloud isn’t tracking very well at the moment and is looking to a decent sized opening weekend at the box office (I guess the teenage girls aren’t flocking to the theatres for this one). Meanwhile people are heading back to the theatres to watch Inception again or perhaps check out the new comedy Dinner for Schmucks. Anyway, back to Charlie St. Cloud. This supernatural romantic drama stars Zac Efron and the lovely Canadian actress Amanda Crew.

After the jump, alien invasion is the next big thing in Hollywood, more Inception related links, Sofia Vergara will run down Sunset Blvd. naked (maybe), Kevin Smith brings together geeks in love at Comic-Con and Joshua Jackson held a convention of his own last weekend. Continue reading

Comic-Con 2010: Sunday Roundup

It’s the final day of Comic-Con and there is no big event for the day. However it was a good day for TV shows. Fan favourites like Smallville and Supernatural makes another appearance. Meanwhile Glee is back at Comic-Con to please all the Gleeks out there (though I still don’t know what it’s doing at Comic-Con). Continue reading

Comic-Con 2010: Saturday Roundup

It was indeed a jam-packed day at Comic-Con. All the big movies displayed the big guns to generate buzz and support including Cowboys and Aliens, Thor, Captain America, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Green Lantern. Other films that made quite the splash include Let Me In, Paul and Sucker Punch. Of course, we also check in on Team Bartowski during the Chuck panel (which was disappointingly short this year). Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Nerding It Up

Lowdown Blog readers should know that I usually just base the title of the ELO’s on a certain theme or ‘big ticket item’ of the weekend. Just to clarify, the title of the previous Entertainment Link-Off does not represent my interpretation of the film Inception. However I would like to point out that Inception is indeed a fantastic film, so go out and see it when you get the chance.

Kicking off this entry is Eva Mendes. Apparently she got some teenage boys really excited during The Other Guys panel on Friday.

In this slightly condensed version of the ELO, some additional Comic-Con related links, a nice Inception guide and the rise and fall of 3D movies. Continue reading
