UWO Releases 2010 Salary List

As is required by provincial law, all government-funded entities must disclose the taxable earnings of all employees who make more than $100,000 in the previous calendar year. For 2010, 952 UWO employees made the list which is up/down from the 2009 calendar year by 58 (or 7%). Topping the list was Amit Chakma who hit #1 in his first full year as the President of UWO. NHL Power Rankings: Week 26

A week and a half is all we have left in the NHL regular season so we come to the final NHL Power Ranking of the 2010-11 season on The Lowdown Blog. It’s been a long run that has trailed off as of late but that’s what happens when life gets in the way. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have all 30 NHL teams ranked from top to bottom for you once again. We have a new team atop the rankings this week and it really shouldn’t surprise anyone. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: When Life Interrupts

It’s time for the Wednesday links. Here’s Kat Dennings who is in the upcoming movie Thor… Yeah, that’s all I’ve got on her.

Tom Bissell was an award-winning writer until he fell into a slightly Grand Theft Auto lifestyle. This is his story. (The Guardian)

As is increasingly becoming the case, social media keeps getting in the way of real life. (Wall Street Journal)

And I thought this was an interesting article. Romantic breakups and rejections actually register in the same part of the brain as physical pain. (Fox News)

After the jump, Chris Pronger is winning, your perfect Facebook girlfriend and the Mighty Ducks rap. Continue reading

Fails of the Week

It’s time for the brief return of our not-so-regular regular feature. Every so often, we’re going to take a look at the most epic fails from the week that was in the Fails of the Week. This week, we have five videos and pictures that we think are the most epic fails of the week. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Katy Perry – E.T.

This week’s WoM was actually a tough decision. There were a good eight songs on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 that could be legitimate Worst of Music winners this week. (Bruno Mars’s Grenade already won the WoM and the other is Cee Lo Green’s Fuck You which I like.) So I went with the song of the week that could have been the greatest but failed miserably. I’m actually a Kanye West fan but pair him with Katy Parry and you have a WoM winner with their collaboration E.T. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Hit and Miss

Steve is off again this week to escape his hometown and enjoy some city life, so it’s Jackie here again to destroy your Sunday Link-Off. Kicking off this entry are the ladies of Sucker Punch.

After the jump, the Washington Capitals are #winning, religion is dying, sex is a risky activity, Facebook happy birthday messages translated and Chuck Bartowski is the greatest American hero. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Mind-bending Reality

It’s another loaded weekend at the box office. For those in Canada, you can enjoy the “greatest Canadian movie ever” (quoted from Steve Murray) called Hobo with a Shotgun. Meanwhile for the rest of the folks in North America, how about some eye candy galore in Sucker Punch? Ok it’s getting drubbed by critics as Zack Snyder’s first misfire, but the stylistic action and the lead actresses are worth a look. Kicking off this entry is Jamie Chung who plays Amber in the film.

After the jump more episodes of the Star Wars parody Troopers, Bryan Singer explains why Superman Returns didn’t quite click with its audience, Rebecca Black is becoming richer because of our hatred and Nick Pitera is a one-man Disney movie! Continue reading

The Humanoids: Back To T.O.

I consider it an event whenever I get to go to the big city. When you live in a city of some 70,000 people and you go to a city of some 6 million people, I think it qualifies as an event. Granted, I was just there about three weeks ago so maybe a return visit to Toronto isn’t as special this time around. But that doesn’t mean I can’t take another look at Canada’s biggest city which we derogatorily call “the center of the universe.” Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 25

Another week, another dose of the NHL Power Rankings. With two and a half weeks left in the season, the Western Conference playoff picture is just as cloudy as ever. But there’s still the stand out Vancouver Canucks atop the standings. However, leading the Presidents’ Trophy chase won’t get them on top of the Power Rankings. Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: Australian Grand Prix Edition

Regular visitors to The Lowdown Blog know what my Power Rankings are all about. New visitors may be slightly confused. Well, it’s only going to get worse from here. Every Wednesday, I’ll post my rankings of the drivers in Formula One. The rankings will be based on their how they’re running this season (or in testing for this first race), past performance at the upcoming track, the performance of the car and other intangibles that affect their performance (see Favre, Brett). It’s more of a prospective list than a restrospective list. Anyway, here is your first round of Formula One power rankings. Continue reading
