Wednesday Link-Off: Quickie

It’s an abbreviated version of the Wednesday links thanks to yesterday’s minor WordPress problems. To make up for it, here’s Candice Swanepoel.

You that stereotype about Americans being idiots? Turns out that Newsweek’s research shows it might just be true. (Newsweek)

We may never really get a look inside the NFL Combine but this might be the next best thing. A documentary about Western Mustang John Surla takes us inside CFL e-Camp. (55-Yard Line)

Last weekend, TSN2 cut away from March Madness to cover women’s curling. Suffice to say, we’re officially a laughing stock. (The Big Lead)

After the jump, the Madden Madness bracket, some WWE stories and Sheen does Kimmel. Continue reading

Not News of the Week

It’s time for the weirdest and wackiest stories from around the world. It’s time for the Not News of the Week.

If you were looking for a detour in downtown Houston last week, you might have gotten lost. A prankster changed an electronic “DETOUR” sign to “POOP.” The prankster also got in a crack of “:) LOL” before workers regained control of the sign. Apparently hacking the computer controlling an electronic sign in Texas is punishable with up to a $500 fine. That hasn’t deterred anyone from doing it, though. In 2009, a sign in Austin was changed to read “Zombies in area! Run!” Continue reading

Worst of Music: Rebecca Black – Friday

Normally I go to the Billboard Hot 100 to pick the WoM each week. This week, Twitter made my choice for me thanks to the week’s big musical trending topic. Rebecca Black is a 13-year-old girl whose father bought her a song produced by a company that specializes in producing songs for teens. Maybe Daddy should have held on to his money because the end result of Rebecca and Ark Music Factory is nothing short of atrocious. This week’s WoM is Rebecca Black’s Friday. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Sunday Came Afterwards

It’s Sunday which means it’s time for another set of Sunday Links. For no apparent reason, let’s kick off with Kate Upton. A lot of bloggers make future ex-wife jokes about certain celebs, I think I should start saying that about Kate.

How popular is Aussie bully punisher Casey “Kid Zangief” Heynes on the internet? Famed hacking group Anonymous shut down Casey’s school’s website in protest of his suspension. (Urlesque)

How desperate is the Detroit News for cash? They’ll let advertisers have a say in the editing process. Chrysler complained about a review so the web version was edited. (Jalopnik)

The latest viral sensation on the internet is the ear-bleedingly bad Friday by Rebecca Black which I’ll talk more about on Monday. But for now, here are the top five Friday covers. (Mashable)

After the jump, David Stern is a hypocrite, Mike Tyson is a family man and Super Mario Brothers is an indie movie trailer. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Ching Chong Ling Long Ting Tong

It’s Saturday, so it’s time for another round of the Entertainment Link-Off. It’s a decent showing at the movies this weekend as we get three films all worthy of a look. First there’s the sci-fi comedy Paul starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Then there’s Matthew McConaughey channeling his inner lawyer once again in The Lincoln Lawyer. Finally there’s the thriller on a faux wonderdrug called Limitless starring Bradley Cooper and Abbie Cornish (pictured).

After the jump, the Chinese are no longer the villains in Red Dawn, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reenact Star Wars, manchildren are in danger according to Ben Stiller, Wile E Coyote reenacts 127 Hours, Elmo gets tickled and video responses to that rant about Asians by UCLA student Alexandra Wallace. The Best of Texts From Last Night (Part 5)

It’s been a few months since we’ve done a best of look at the original website that we featured in our best of the interweb series, TextsFromLastNight.com. Well, the fun and partying never ends so neither do the stories. So in our latest installment of the best of the interweb, here are more quick stories about drugs, alcohol, debauchery and sometimes all of the above. Continue reading

F1 2011 Season Preview: Predictions

It’s time for the third and final part of our Formula One season preview. With the examination of the teams, drivers, and new rules out of the way, it’s time to put all of the information we have together for predictions for the 2011 season. Of course, the combination of the new rules and testing times is not necessarily an accurate portrayal of who’s fast which makes predicting the season a difficult proposition. However, as we like to say around here: We’re ambitious but rubbish. Continue reading

Last year’s rules seemed to shakes things up enough to keep the whole season interesting. Will this year’s new rules make the racing better still? Continue reading

F1 2011 Season Preview: The Drivers and Teams

It’s that time of year again race fans. We’re days away from the V8 engines of the Formula One World Championship firing up in anger for the first time in 2011. Last season was a whole new game. Three new teams took to the track which brought the car count increase to 24 for the first time since 1997. All twelve teams return for 2011 which is an improvement over 1997 when there were 24 cars for only the opening race of the season. So to start our look at the 2011 F1 season, we look at the 12 teams that will be in the field and the drivers piloting the cars. Continue reading
