Sunday Link-Off: New Year’s Hangover

Let’s kick off the first Sunday linkdump of the year with Scarlett Johansson who was GQ’s “Babe of the Year.”

SI’s Richard Deitsch named his sports media award winners last week. The sports media person of the year is someone new to the game that completely revolutionized football commentary without being a commentator. (Sports Illustrated)

The Post takes a look inside the not so secret world of sports groupies and where they share their secrets and tactics online. (New York Post)

It’s time for Lake Superior State University’s annual list of words to be banned from the English language. It won’t stop anyone from saying these words but it should be taken under advisement. (CBC)

After the jump, how to kick ass at Monopoly, the drunkest cities in America and Argentina’s Dancing with the Stars sure is better than the US version. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Happy 2011!

The new year is here! Here’s the first Entertainment Link-Off of 2011. Kicking things off is Beau Garrett. You can catch her as Gem in Tron Legacy, though you may have some trouble recognizing her in the film. Speaking of Tron Legacy, looks like the film is still doing decent business at the box office.

After the jump, Patton Oswalt thinks geek culture is dead, sci-fi movies defies physics, Tron rules Twitter, 3D overload and Freddie Wong is at it again with another awesome short. Continue reading

The Star Wars Holiday Special

It’s Christmas Day! I can only assume that this is a day off for everyone. If not, might I suggest passing the time with the worst TV event in the history of television. For your viewing pleasure, here’s the Star Wars Holiday Special. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Fall of the Dongslinger

It may be cold outside but Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge should warm up the freezing Canadian winter.

Here’s the sports media coup of the year. Fox leaves the cameras on overnight and catches the Metrodome roof collapse. Here’s the story behind the video. (USA Today)

Speaking of Favre related things, even though his streak ended, that isn’t the big Dongslinger story of the week. He could be facing a lawsuit from Jenn Sterger. (Pro Football Talk)

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a Christmas tree salesman in New York City? Probably not but this story of a tree-selling family is still a good read. (Los Angeles Times)

After the jump, scads of hockey links, the first gameplay footage of Uncharted 3, and the ultimate F1 2010 highlight package. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Surely You Can’t Be Serious

We’ve got a bit of a comedy thing happening in today’s WLO so let’s kick off with Cobie Smulders.

We know that the NHL has its reasonably fair share of scandals. Avery, Campbell, Eagleson… and that’s about all I can think of right now. However, there is a set procedure for dealing with these as shown by this flowchart. (Down Goes Brown)

The Grey Cup was this past week. Sadly, Montreal won. However, us viewers also won because TSN put more into this game broadcast than they did for the whole 2010 Olympics. Here’s a look behind the scenes at the production efforts. (55-Yard Line)

With the passing of Canadian icon Leslie Nielsen this weekend, let’s look back at 10 of his best scenes. (Bro Bible)

After the jump, Sports Human of the Year voting, a Fox Nation epic fail and a couple of Monday Night Football moments. Continue reading

The Empire Strikes Back: GIF Edition

We’ve seen the original Empire Strikes Back and the special edition of Empire Strikes Back and in a couple of years, we’ll have Empire Strikes Back in 3D. Fortunately, an intrepid internet denizen has taken the best movie in the Star Wars saga and turned it into an animated GIF. The only downside is that there’s no sound so there’s no “I know.” Continue reading

Rumour: New Star Wars Movies In The Works?

An internet report says that the Star Wars movie bug has bitten George Lucas once again. The task of converting Episodes I through VI of the Star Wars saga is said to have inspired Lucas to work on sequels to the original Star Wars trilogy. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: I’m Han Solo

Since there wasn’t a Wednesday linkdump last week, I’ll try to make up for it with Sofia Vergara and Minka Kelly at the start of this one.

I don’t think the Celtics are going to go far this season (I call it The Shaq Effect) but I think this Nate Robinson guy has a future. He’s already pranking the team’s stars. (Red’s Army)

Coming soon to a free porn site near you is the Tiger Woods Sex Tape. I’ll believe it when I see it. (Radar Online)

Alex Anthopoulos came into the season as a rookie GM. With his first season at the helm of the Jays in the books, here’s a look back at his last year. (National Post)

After the jump, Ovechkin tops Crosby again, awesome celebrity endorsements and some amazing Star Wars songs (including the Han Solo song). Continue reading

Around The Death Star Conference Table

In the big meeting in the Death Star’s board room, we only hear from four people even though there were nine people in on the meeting (and two security guards). So what were those other Imperial higher ups thinking about while listening to everyone else drone on about stolen plans, hidden bases and superior firepower? I hypothesize after the jump. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: The Best And Worst

To kick off this edition of the Wednesday linkdump, here’s Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.

The latest NHL games hit shelves this week. EA Sports’ NHL 11 is the only game on PS3 and 360 so I’m not linking to those reviews. However, 2K is releasing NHL 2K11 exclusively for the Wii. (Kotaku) Meanwhile, EA has their own Wii exclusive NHL release with Wayne Gretzky starring in NHL Slapshot (with hockey stick peripheral) for the Wii. (IGN)

Nokia’s promotion for its latest phone gives you a chance to star in a short film with Pamela Anderson. The joke just writes itself on this one. (Gizmodo) Okay, I’ll bite. You’ll join Tommy Lee and Vince Neil in the ranks of co-stars in Pam Anderson short films.

And a blogger says that Albert Pujols’ head is getting bigger. What is he hinting at? (Midwest Sports Fan) In fairness to Jerod, he’s not the one doing the hinting this time.

After the jump, the worst IndyCar driver of all time, the return of Kimbo Slice, and a football promo that’s not a trap. Continue reading
