Entertainment Link-Off: Long Road Ahead

elodie yungI’m back! It’s been a few weeks but I finally got proper internet access to start posting the ELO’s again! While I’ve been gone, I still managed to check out the new releases in theatres. Deadpool is a must see, while Zoolander 2 is a bit of a misfire. Anyway, let’s get on with the links! Kicking this ELO off with Elodie Yung. She’s set to appear in Gods of Egypt soon and also she’ll be playing Elektra in season 2 of Daredevil premiering next month.

After the jump, The Rock tackles more earthquakes, Leo’s Oscar campaign has turned into a video game, plenty of Deadpool related links, a look at the hints in 10 Cloverfield Lane, there’s way too much walking on The Walking Dead and Melisandre (from Game of Thrones) makes an interesting baby shower guest…

Sunday Link-Off: Growth

adriana-lima-amfar16-02bYeah, I know it’s Valentine’s Day but how many people actually give a toss? I suppose that’s because I’m single but maybe it’s also because I’m a guy. Those are two things that make me predisposed to not being particularly arsed about a corporate holiday. Okay, I’m a cynic too. Three things that make me think that Valentine’s Day is a wasteful cash grab.

Anyway, it’s Sunday which means that we have to do the links. Let’s kick things off with Adriana Lima.

It’s not just HGH. Peyton Manning’s legacy might be built on lies. (New York Daily News)

About a third of leaked NY police contracts have clauses that allows for the destruction of civilian complaints against officers. Doesn’t that make you feel safe about policing? (The Guardian)

How is Hilary getting positive coverage from the media in the wake of a groundswell of Bernie support? By damn near “blackmailing” the press. (Gawker)

Entertainment Link-Off: Cheeky

alison-brie-howtobesingle16-01For one last time in this latest run, I’m substituting in for Jackie for this weekend’s entertainment and pop culture links. I thought calling myself a sub was appropriate since it’s NBA All-Star Weekend in Toronto and we all know Jackie’s fondness for basketball.

I assume that most everyone is going to the theatre shortly. There’s plenty for you to watch this week. If you’re looking for a Valentine’s rom-com, there’s How to be Single. If you want straight comedy, you can check out Zoolander 2 (but you shouldn’t). And for everyone else, there’s Deadpool.

Anyway, enough of the preamble. We should just get straight to the links. Let’s kick things off with Alison Brie who’s starring in How to be Single.

Wednesday Link-Off: Get Out The Vote

natalie-dormer-zoolander16-03The New Hampshire primaries were last night. The Sanders win probably wasn’t a huge surprise but the GOP was probably a shock with Trump winning by doubling up on John Kasich who was a shock second place. I guess the Rubio challenge was short-lived. Granted, we do have a long way to go until November.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday so it’s time for the links. Let’s kick things off with Natalie Dormer.

I find it slightly ironic that FX Canada is showing a mini-series about the OJ Simpson trial at the same time as the Jian Ghomeshi trial takes place in Canada. These two cases could have some amazing parallels when it’s all said and done because of how much of a disaster this case is becoming for the Crown. (The Globe and Mail)

Donald Trump won the GOP New Hampshire Primary. The Huffington Post didn’t mince words. (The Hill)

The press isn’t just dishing it out to Trump. They’re taking it from him too. (Washington Post)

Sunday Link-Off: 50

elizabeth-banks-vanityfair16-01Spoiler alert: I don’t have any Super Bowl links in today’s post. I doubt that surprises anyone since all the talk about the Super Bowl has been Cam Newton’s pants and whether Peyton Manning will retire which is interesting because I thought he retired before the season the way he played early on. Also, I’m still bitter the Lions had another legend retire on them in his prime. That’s so Lions.

Anyway, it’s Sunday which means that we’re here to do the links. Just for different, let’s kick off with Elizabeth Banks.

While work begins on the methane leak in southern California, it could be the least of the world’s problems when it comes to leaking methane. (FiveThirtyEight)

Jeb! 2016 is crashing its way into New Hampshire. It’s not pretty. (Vanity Fair)

Bell recently ran its corporate-branded mental health awareness day. Branded philanthropy is new ad blitz, I guess. The problem is that they’re missing the mark on mental health. (Rabble)

Entertainment Link-Off: Superstars

teresa-palmer-thechoice16-01A couple hours late but never a couple dollars short (because we know that we aren’t getting much from the ads on the screen), it’s time once again for the entertainment and pop culture links in the Entertainment Link-Off. I’ve drawn in again but Jackie is supposed to make his grand return next week. And everyone breathes a collective sigh of relief.

Anyway, it’s a busy weekend if you’re looking for something to watch. Hail, Caesar, The Choice and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies are all in theatres starting this weekend. So your options are two comedies and a romance movie. Or you could watch that Super Bowl thing. Can a fifty-year-old man’s experience lead his team to victory over a quarterback half his age? And those Coldplay guys are playing too. Meh.

So it’s Saturday which means we better get to the links. To kick things off, from The Choice, here’s Teresa Palmer.

Wednesday Link-Off: Outta Nowhere

sarah-hyland-ariel-winter-sag16-02It’s a very et geekera week around here on the blog this week. Yesterday was the Fine Bros React World story and tomorrow will be the follow-up. The story is on etg today in case you wanted to click over there. Friday, I’ll have a game review up on the blog. Not sure which review will be up since there are three on etg that haven’t been posted here yet but I’m thinking the most recent of the three is going up this week.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday which means you aren’t here for me to do a planning meeting. You’re here for the links. Let’s kick things off with the Modern Family duo of Sarah Hyland and Ariel Winter.

Bernie Sanders made history on Monday night by becoming the first non-Christian to win a delegate in a Presidential primary. Not too bad but maybe he can do just a little better. (Mic)

In near records, Bernie’s near-draw with Hilary came off the back of the 18-29 vote which he won by 70%. (Washington Post)

It’s not just Flint that has lead in the water. Many other cities in Michigan have lead in the water too. (Detroit News)

Sunday Link-Off: Hey Now! You’re an All-Star!

emily-ratajkowski-svedka16-02Well, I don’t know about the rest of you but I’ve had a busy couple of weeks. I’m sure you’ve noticed that by the content on the blog. I’m still playing Rise of the Tomb Raider for review. I’ve started writing my Until Dawn review as promised on the last podcast. I’m also doing a story on the Fine Bros react bullshit and will run that on here because it’s a big deal to the YouTube world. So I’m still writing but it’ll be a bit hit and miss.

Anyway, it’s Sunday which means that you’re here for the links. Let’s kick things off with Emily Ratajkowsi.

Another charity has been accused of being a waste. Wounded Warriors has been accused of blowing millions on admin expenses and executive. (CBS News)

Saudi Arabia is supposed to be helping matters in the Middle East but a UN report says that they’re busy bombing civilians when they’re supposed to be fighting rebels in Yemen. (The Guardian)

Add the World Bank to groups who don’t see a benefit to the TPP. They say that the Trans-Pacific Partnership will have a minimal impact on Canada, Australia and the US. Oops. (Tech Dirt)

Entertainment Link-Off: The Replacements

rachel-mcadams-thewrap15-01Good day, denizens of the interweb. I’m here to cover off Jackie who’s gone walkabout in the Outback. Something like that. I don’t quite understand these Australian customs to be perfectly honest. Anyway, I’ve drawn in to cover the entertainment links for the next couple of weeks.

Hollywood is still abuzz with the racial implications of the Oscar nominations and that’s a story that likely won’t go away until weeks after the awards are actually given out. Considering the poor slate of new releases this weekend (Kung Fu Panda 3, a Fifty Shades parody and Hollywood trying to figure out how much star power Chris Pine has), no wonder it’s still the big story on the silver screen.

Anyway, you don’t click to read my banter. You click here for the links. So let’s kick things off with Rachel McAdams.

Wednesday Link-Off: The Great (Missed) Debate

Sorry I’m late with today’s set of links. I’ve spent the last couple of evenings playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC for review. Square Enix just moved the embargo date from Thursday to today so I can what I was playing. And, yes, it’s good. Probably better than 2013’s reboot but I’ve got about two-thirds of the game still to go.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday so it’s time for us to do the links. Let’s kick things off with Kate Beckinsale.

In sort of the inverse of the California ballot initiative requiring legislators to wear their donors on their sleeve, President Obama is contemplating an Executive Order requiring federal contractors to disclose who they donate to. (New York Times)

Donald Trump thinks he can shoot people and not lose any support. That might be true but would he no longer be eligible to hold office if convicted. (The Hill)

And Trump is planning to pull out of tomorrow’s GOP debate because Fox News has Megyn Kelly assigned as a moderator. Maybe it’s for the best because Trump can’t improve his standing in the debates. (Daily Intelligencer)
