Entertainment Link-Off: Friendship Has Its Benefits

Steve said it best on Twitter last night when he tweeted “Every time I see an ad for No Strings Attached, I think it’ll cost Natalie Portman an Oscar the same way Norbit cost Eddie Murphy.” Perhaps it’s not such a good idea to kick off the ELO with her and her infamous laugh from the Golden Globes. Instead, let’s start with one of her co-stars Olivia Thirlby. The movie was initially titled Fuckbuddies. Perhaps that would have generated a bit more interest from the general public.

After the jump, a nice look at the opening credits for Scott Pilgrim, MTV landed themselves in hot water, Battle Los Angeles released some awesome viral marketing and a nifty Lost fan video that should please many fanatics out there.  Continue reading

The Best of My Life Is Average (Part 3)

It’s time for another part in our ongoing series in the best of the interweb that can help you through your day. (Well, the interweb that is outside of The Lowdown Blog.) Once again, I take us back for some more of the best stories of  My Life is Average. I like this site because it’s a bit more relatable to everyone’s average lives and some of the stories on the website are the sort of thing that regularly happen to people. That doesn’t mean that these stories aren’t funny. Continue reading

Epic Meal Time – Meat Salad

This week, the crew of Epic Meal Time are back with a fresh take on salad. The old saying popularized by The Simpsons is “You don’t make friends with salad.” It looks like the EMT boys are trying to prove that adage wrong by making a salad solely with meat. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 16

Every team has crossed the halfway point of their 82-game schedule but the standings are tightly packed. The fourth place team in the Western Conference has only a two-point lead on 8th. It’s parity like that in the NHL that causes the weekly NHL Power Rankings to move so much from week to week. For example, there’s another new team atop the rankings while teams have moves up as far as ten spots or dropped as many as seven positions in the rankings. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Solid Gold

Since the Golden Globes was this past weekend, here’s January Jones and her golden globes. Sorry, I had to make that joke.

The gang at Awful Announcing have graded each of the main NFL play-by-play teams from the five NFL broadcasters. No surprise as to who’s first and last. (Awful Announcing)

You’ve probably heard about the epic Ricky Gervais monologue at the Golden Globes by now. Here’s the blow-by-blow account with video. (Esquire)

Sorry to somber the mood but the New York Times took an in-depth look inside the head of Tucson shooter Jared Loughner in this profile. (New York Times)

The Best of Barrett-Jackson 2011

This week is the world-famous Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction is the premier classic and rare car auction in the world. It’s the sort of thing that rich people go to for buying new status symbols and where real men go to drool over what basically is automotive erotica. It’s basically a week-long celebration of the car where gearheads are king. So to celebrate the year’s biggest car show where the cars and not the manufacturers are the stars, here are ten of my favourite cars from this week’s auction. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Wiz Khalifa – Black And Yellow

Chances are you’ve heard this week’s WoM winner before. The thing is that you may have heard this song in one of its many knock-off or reworked versions such as Blue and Yellow for the San Diego Chargers, Red and Yellow for the Kansas City Chiefs, Blue and Orange for the New York Mets, White and Navy for the New York Yankees, Black and Purple for the TCU Horned Frogs and Purp and Yellow for the Los Angeles Lakers. The original song by rapper Wiz Khalifa is a song he wants to become the fight song of the Pittsburgh Steelers and is called Black and Yellow. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Technological Takeover

Erin Andrews is the first woman to endorse Reebok’s ZigTech shoes. I can see why Reebok hired her.

Yesterday, Jackie had the video of IBM’s Watson supercomputer taking down Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter in a practice game of Jeopardy to no one’s surprise. But here’s a deeper look inside how Watson works and why it will eventually lead the machine revolt against mankind. (Wired)

A random topic of conversation that’s crept up over the last week has been who you would cast in a 2011 remake of Space Jam. Experts (bloggers) were called in and here are their choices. (The Good Point)

Entertainment Link-Off: Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A…

Thanks to a slight delay due to post-production 3D conversion, Michael Gondry/Seth Rogen’s collab The Green Hornet has finally hit the silver-screens in theatres. Making her film debut in The Green Hornet is former figure skater and America’s Next Top Model contestant Analeigh Tipton, so let’s kick off the link-off with her.

After the jump, a few more tidbits on the film, quasi-good news for Mortal Kombat fans, Tron Legacy sequel may be just around the corner, Harry Potter crushes kids’ dreams, Watson takes on humans in Jeopardy and a nice video showcasing ridiculously obvious product placements in film. Continue reading
