Top 10 Motorsports Temper Moments

A couple of weeks ago, TSN’s SportsCentre paid homage to Helio Castroneves’ blowup on Izod IndyCar officials at the Honda Edmonton Indy by running a list of the Top 10 meltdowns in sports. While it was entirely appropriate, the problem was that they ran the exact same top ten the week before. If they put in five minutes worth of effort into their segments, they would have found that there are loads of moments in motorsports history where people let their tempers get the best of them.

Happy Madden 11 Day

Today is that other football-related unofficial national holiday. The day after the Super Bowl is an unofficial holiday so people can deal with their hangovers. The day that the new edition of Madden hits the shelves is the other unofficial holiday so people can play all day and win the Super Bowl. Brett Favre Link-Off: Pants on the Ground

Well, Brett Favre is in the news. Actually, after the last couple of days, that might be the understatement of the century. Jenn Sterger figures largely into this story.

Let’s start this linkdump with a look at how this week started. Tuesday, we got a report that Favre was going to call it a career. (FOX Sports)

Then, he decided to tell his boys as ESPN that he might comeback if his body is up to it. You know, the same body that forced him to retire the day before. (ESPN)

F1 Hungarian GP: Back Against The Wall

The whole weekend was dominated by Red Bull. In practice, they had the field covered by nearly a second with Sebastian Vettel comfortably ahead of Mark Webber. This race, unsurprisingly, looked like another Red Bull coronation waiting to happen. However, a critical error cost Vettel the win and forced Webber to push his tires harder and farther than anyone believed possible to pick up the win. Continue reading →

2010 Edmonton Indy Wrapup

One weekend every year, the City Centre Airport in Edmonton is host to the elite of North American open-wheel racing (and Milka Duno). Since 2005, the Edmonton Indy had played host to the stars of Champ Car and the Izod IndyCar Series. After an exciting race last week on the streets of downtown Toronto, 25 IndyCars trekked across Canada for the second of two Canadian stops for the Izod IndyCar Series. Continue reading →

F1 German GP: Just Following Orders

If you didn’t know what Article 39.1 of the F1 Sporting Regulations was before this race, you will now. The race looked like it would be a Ferrari 1-2 with Felipe Massa leading Fernando Alonso. But then the call went out on the radio: “Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm that you understood that?” A couple of laps later saw Massa inexplicably slow out of the hairpin and Alonso cruise by en route to victory. 2010 Toronto Indy Wrapup

The streets of Toronto’s Exhibition Place have been the home to open-wheel racing in Canada since 1986. For the second time, the Izod IndyCar Series came to town to run the downtown streets. Twenty-six cars including Canadians Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani made up the field for a race that turned into a demolition derby. Continue reading →

F1 British GP: Something Old, Something New…

The old wedding adage seemed to fit perfectly for yesterday’s British Grand Prix. The irony of that statement is that the marriage at Red Bull is quickly disintegrating. But something old was Silverstone, host of the first ever round of the Formula One World Championship in 1950. Something new is the Arena Circuit layout which was designed for Moto GP and used for this year’s F1 Grand Prix. Something borrowed was Mark Webber’s front wing which was borrowed by Sebastian Vettel. And something blue was Mark Webber’s Red Bull as it streaked across the line as he took his third win of the season. Continue reading →

One game to rule the world. Spain and the Netherlands played to stand a top the world of soccer for the first time. The Netherands have missed out on two previous opportunities to win the title. Soccer Night In South Africa: Battle For Bronze


The sixty-third game of the 2010 World Cup may have technically been for third place in the tournament but having come so close to the title, that wasn’t the real motivator for Germany and Uruguay. This match was solely for pride. One last game and one last chance to end the tournament as a winner.
