Entertainment Link-Off: Robot Rumble

Tonight is the 2010 Video Game Awards on Spike. If you need a fresh reminder on the nominees, take a look at our predictions here. Plus, why wouldn’t you want to watch it when Neil Patrick Harris is hosting this? Anyway, kicking off this link-off is Kristen Bell. Yes she’s in the latest box office flop Burlesque, but on an unrelated note, she is nominated for her voice work in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood at the Video Game Awards tonight.

After the jump Guillermo Del Toro wants you to see Scott Pilgrim, Michael Bay sorta apologizes for Revenge of the Fallen, more Transformers tidbits, new Thor trailer and poster and catch Inception in real time! Continue reading

2010 Spike Video Game Awards Nominations & Predictions

Tomorrow night is Spike TV’s annual Video Game Awards show. Since 2003, Spike has given the public the ability to vote for top their video games of the year. While it is often the target of criticism as it’s a glorified popularity contest, it is the starting point of the video game awards season. So let’s take a look at this year’s VGA nominees and take a stab at who should win the awards and who will win the awards. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Black Eyed Peas – The Time (Dirty Bit)

This week’s Worst of Music winner seems to be a regular when it comes to discussions for the weekly award. The Black Eyed Peas have been on a steady free-fall when it comes to their music since Let’s Get It Started and that wasn’t even that good. This week’s WoM worthy BEP song is an attempt at dance music that shoehorns an 80s pop classic in for good measure. And it’s slightly inexplicably called “The Time (Dirty Bit).” Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Swan Dive

Jackie’s got the day off for travel so I’ve drawn in to do the links today. To lead it off, here’s Natalie Portman who stars in the new movie Black Swan.

Speaking of which, here’s Roger Ebert’s review of Black Swan. He really likes it. Sadly, no mention of that sex scene between Portman and Mila Kunis in the review. (Roger Ebert)

It looks like the war between “old media” and “new media” is about to really heat up. Despite claims that one is dead and the other reckless, they’re basically neck and neck. (Business Insider)

And just for fun, here’s a look at some of the all-time great Simpsons episodes. (Split Sider)

After the jump, the best XBox Kinect hacks, famous fictional cars, and celebrities invade a Norwegian music video. Continue reading

Survivor Series 2010 Review

Since 1903, Major League Baseball has held a championship series that it’s known colloquially as “the Fall Classic.” For the last 24 years, World Wrestling Entertainment has held its own Fall Classic known as the Survivor Series. One of the WWE’s “Big Four” pay-per-views, it is the second oldest annual show on the WWE calendar and always a good show. This year’s Survivor Series was live from American Airlines Arena in Miami and featured a continuation of the Nexus invasion angle that has captivated wresting fans since the summer. Find out how well that angle and the rest of the show played out after the jump. Continue reading

The Empire Strikes Back: GIF Edition

We’ve seen the original Empire Strikes Back and the special edition of Empire Strikes Back and in a couple of years, we’ll have Empire Strikes Back in 3D. Fortunately, an intrepid internet denizen has taken the best movie in the Star Wars saga and turned it into an animated GIF. The only downside is that there’s no sound so there’s no “I know.” Continue reading

Worst of Music: Angelina Pivarnick – I’m Hot

For this week’s Worst of Music, I may be jumping the gun just a bit. Angelina, formerly of the inexplicable TV phenomenon Jersey Shore, had her new rap/hip-hop song leaked this week. A short sample had leaked early in the week with the whole thing hitting the interweb later on and we would have been better off it never saw the light of day. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Get Tangled Up

It’s Thanksgiving Weekend in the United States, so Happy Thanksgiving to those who are south of the border. At this time of the year, there are plenty of films hitting the screens trying to make money from the long weekend. There’s the revenge action flick Faster starring Dwayne Johnson. Then Christina Aguilera and Cher collaborate in Burlesque. Disney is offering its own family fare Tangled starring Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore. I was going to kick off the ELO with something related to this movie, but then I came across Olivia Wilde’s latest photoshoot with Details. Might as well go with that since Tron Legacy will be hitting the screens very soon.

After the jump, Stephen King makes his top 10 flicks of the year already, Christopher Nolan explains Inception without really explaining it, David Letterman likes to hit on Natalie Portman and let’s all become asses! I mean Agents of Secret Stuff! Continue reading

Worst of Music: Lady Gaga – Telephone

When I put out the call for recommendations for the Worst of Music award, I knew I was going to get some good ones… or bad ones. For example, last week, I got a passionate recommendation for this week’s WoM so I had to run with it. Lady Gaga’s Telephone had come and gone from the Billboard Hot 100 charts a while back but the WoM has no statute of limitations. Even that epic mashup of Poker Face with Christopher Walken and Cartman that we’re so fond of can’t save her this week. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Magic is in the Air

After a two week hiatus, I am back! Steve has done a wonderful job with the ELO over the past two weeks, so I can safely assume he didn’t scare off any readers right? Yes? Awesome! Anyway, this weekend marks the release of the first part of the final chapter of the Harry Potter franchise. There is no better way to kick things off with the HP leading lady Emma Watson.

After the jump, sports athletes tackle popular movies, what if David Fincher didn’t make The Social Network, a few movie trailers to check out, Supernatural meets The X-Files and Harry Potter decided to turn evil. Continue reading
