Worst of Music: Bruno Mars – Grenade

This week’s Worst of Music song isn’t necessarily a horrible song. Sure, it’s annoying but it’s not ear bleedingly bad. No, this week’s WoM highlights singer hypocrisy and how it’s used to make a song popular. This week’s Worst of Music song is Grenade by Bruno Mars. It may have dumb lyrics and sound overly melodramatic but those aren’t the only reasons why it’s this week’s WoM. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Golden

Minka Kelly was at the People’s Choice Awards last week. Easy to see how she could be a people’s choice.

The story of golden-voiced homeless man Ted Williams is one that everyone seems to have gotten behind. It’s provided us some good journalism and stories but some excuse for media exploitation. (Midwest Sports Fans)

Ever think about writing your own sitcom. Well, if you have, or just want to know about the thinking that goes into writing your favourite sitcom, here’s a look at how they write the show’s most important scene: The one where the attractive female lead ends up topless. (McSweeney)

Entertainment Link-Off: Music To My Earholes

In theatres this weekend, you can either catch Nicholas Cage in Season of the Witch (currently standing at 1% fresh) or perhaps check out Country Strong which isn’t doing much better at 15% Tomatometer. On the bright side, you do get to see Leighton Meester in the movie working her vocal pipes!

After the jump, a flowchart explaining why Black Swan was so awesome, the different body masses of Christian Bale, NASA hates 2012, Bill Hader teams up with Volkswagon, Josh Groban interprets Kanye West’s tweets, Machete in claymation and an awesome short film worthy of a look! Continue reading

The Humanoids: A Trainwreck Society

Amazingly, The Humanoids is back for the second week in a row. There’s a lot of really screwed up things in the world. With the exception of one subject this week, all of my targets are in the media/entertainment industry. That exception would be the BCS which has completely screwed up college football. Not only is the media an utter trainwreck but some of the people following them are trainwrecks as well. Since we’re a society that’s far too enthralled with the lives of celebrity, obsessive behaviour is really screwing up people’s minds. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 14

The Winter Classic has come and gone but the NHL season still rolls on (just without HBO’s NHL 24/7). That may not be a good thing for the Penguins who continue sliding down the Power Rankings while the Caps move on up. However, for the second week in a row, the Vancouver Canucks are the best team in the league. Continue reading

Video Game Review: A Space Shooter For Two Bucks

A while back, we reviewed a PS Mini called Young Thor by Quebec-based developer Frima Studio. Well, Frima is back with their latest PS Mini which may just change the way that people look at the PS Mini genre with a fun, arcade-inspired game whose name is also serves as a summary of the game. It’s A Space Shooter For Two Bucks. Continue reading

2010 in Film: A Year in Review

Like 2009, 2010 was another big year for movies thanks to an excess of 3D movies; however a lesson learned is that both star power and sequels to cult classics don’t necessarily translate to box office bucks. We may all remember all the big tentpole films, but it’s easy to forget about everything that’s been released in between. Just for kicks, let’s take a look back at the year of 2010. Continue reading

Worst of Music 2010: Train – Hey, Soul Sister

You didn’t think that I wouldn’t hand out a Worst of Music award winner for 2010. Train ducked the weekly WoM awards by never really finding their way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 when I was picking out a winner. Sure, this song was bad but more in the ungodly annoying way instead of the downright atrocious way. But you can’t duck the WoM forever. Hey, Soul Sister was everywhere from the radio to commercials and was annoying people every second. Continue reading
