Lowdown Radio #50: March 30, 2010

It’s finally arrived. Tonight was the event two-and-a-half years in the making: The 50th episode of The Lowdown on radio. Tonight’s episode started with Steve’s failed plug for the presenting sponsor of the episode. The show really kicked off with a return to the wild world of politics with Tuesday Night Raw is CPAC. On this edition of Raw is CPAC, Stephen Harper calls out Barack Obama and you’ll never believe what happens next. It Came From YouTube was next with a boxing/heavy metal mashup. After the break is entertainment featuring Jackie’s single of the week and a look at the latest celebrity lawsuits. That’s followed up with the debut of Steve’s third album. Jackie immediately follows that with a special edition of The Worst of Music. The show wraps up with the boys kicking off their Road Trip To End Highway Profanity which goes well for everybody but Steve. As always with our April Fools’ episodes, it’s another instant classic. And, as an added bonus, these downloads are the “too controversial for radio” versions of the show. Yes, about two minutes had to be cut from our original submission to satisfy the censors.

On the Extra, the show starts with a little reminiscing about all the bad luck that’s befallen Steve. After Raw is CPAC, the boys talk about the Hart/McMahon match at WrestleMania XXVI. After the break, a new artist wins Steve’s WoM award for the week. More of Steve’s new album is revealed. In total, there’s 20 minutes more Lowdown action on this week’s edition of Lowdown Extra. As usual, that comes to you uncut and uncensored.

Royal Rumble 2010 Review

This past Sunday was the 23rd Royal Rumble. Since the 1991, the winner of the Royal Rumble 30-man over-the-top-rope battle royale has been given an automatic title shot at WrestleMania. So who will be guaranteed a title match at the biggest show of the year and who will be holding the belts heading to Phoenix? More importantly, how good was the kick off of the road to WrestleMania? Find out after the jump. Continue reading

The History of Hulk Hogan’s Entrance Music

I know I’ve been overloading the pro wrestling post lately but I had good inspiration for this one. The gang at The Big Lead weren’t fond of the Hulkster’s new theme song from last Monday’s TNA Impact. Interestingly, that theme song was the music for WCW’s reformed NWO in 1999 and 2000.

Anyway, if there’s any wrestler that revolutionized music in wrestling, it was Hulk Hogan. His use of Eye of the Tiger as a theme song started the widespread use of entrance themes being used. If there is anyone who is as synonymous with a song as the original artist, it’s Hulk Hogan. So here’s a look at Hulk’s music through the years and the stories behind that music. Continue reading

WWE Raw Live Blog – Jan. 4, 2010

Tonight’s edition of WWE’s Monday Night Raw is live tonight from Dayton, Ohio. Tonight’s special guest host is the biggest one that the WWE has hired since starting the Raw guest host gimmick. While celebrities like Shaquille O’Neal and Bob Barker may have generated attention from the entertainment press, tonight’s host was one of the biggest stars of the Monday Night Wars when WWF and WCW generated combined cable TV ratings in the double digits. Tonight’s guest host is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Tonight’s guest host is Bret “Hitman” Hart.

Check out the live blog after the jump. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Assorted Violence

Here’s Emmanuelle Chriqui who most men would fight Mike Tyson for.

If you didn’t believe in Santa before you read this article, you certainly won’t afterwards. In fact, you may run for your life the next time you see him. Turns out that Saint Nick’s a republican. (Musings on Greenwood)

I try not to link to Maxim because it’s banned viewing at most workplaces but this was too good to pass up. They have a guide of what golf clubs to chase guys with for every occasion. (Maxim)

Of course, finding out your husband’s dream is to have an orgy with an actor and a baseball superstar is a good reason to chase him with a golf club. (Out of Bounds)

After the jump, scads of sports links, the best protest signs, and Mark Cuban’s painful Monday night. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Sex and Fast Cars

Let’s kick off with Mila Kunis posing on a car.

Some men may be good at sex but most men are bad at writing about sex. Hell there’s even the Bad Sex in Fiction Awards. (BBC)

For example, this might not necessarily be fiction, but for leading us to think his girl in this story might be a looker, John Mustang should get consideration for the above. (Lion’s Den University) I’m not saying it’s a bad story. I’m just saying that I don’t enjoy being misled about Heidi’s looks.

It’s that time of week again. It’s time for this week’s edition of the Asshole Coach Digest. (Deadspin)

After the jump, Hogan vs. Flair for the 21st century, the Grey Cup from the press box, and the Chinese simulation of the Tiger Woods crash. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: A Train Wreck

Here’s Leighton Meester. She’s not quite Blake Lively but she does have a sex tape so bonus points there.

This is easily the greatest fan rant of all time. (No Spain, No Gain) Actually, if you substitute “Grimsby Town” with “Toronto Maple Leafs,” you’d have a fairly accurate idea of how Leafs fans feel.

I don’t think that “vintage” is the right word to describe some of these wrestling promos. However, “train wreck” is right on the money. (Gunaxin)

Train wreck is also a good way to describe this list of the 50 greatest MMA dominations. Somehow, Kimbo Slice’s loss to that pink haired guy isn’t on there. How much did Dana White pay to make that fight disappear? (Complex)

After the jump, the least valuable players and coaches, Stamkos shows why he was drafted #1 and the worst video acting ever. Continue reading
