NHL Power Rankings: Week 14

The Winter Classic has come and gone but the NHL season still rolls on (just without HBO’s NHL 24/7). That may not be a good thing for the Penguins who continue sliding down the Power Rankings while the Caps move on up. However, for the second week in a row, the Vancouver Canucks are the best team in the league. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: It’s a Living

It’s the first set of Wednesday links of 2011. Because she went to a New Year’s party, here’s Kim Kardashian.

It’s a little late but here’s easily the best list of the best of 2010. It’s the best animated GIFs from sports in 2010. (SB Nation)

Tiger clearly never treated his mistresses well because they’re all trying to cash in on his their fame. (Deadspin)

A lesson for everyone stuck in dead-end jobs. This is a good way to go out and still get some severance. (Food Court Lunch)

After the jump, a Gus Johnson interview, a big addition to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, and Ovi’s SportsCenter commercial. Continue reading

Best Images of the 2011 Winter Classic

Since 2008, the biggest game of NHL season has been the New Year’s Day outdoor game called the Winter Classic. This year saw the Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin rivalry renewed on the NHL’s biggest stage. The game was originally scheduled to be played in the afternoon but weather pushed puck drop back to Saturday night. The result was a great game that looked spectacular under the lights of Heinz Field. Here are some of the best images of this year’s NHL Winter Classic. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 13

For the last time in 2010, it’s time for the weekly NHL Power Rankings. For the first time this season, a Canadian team tops the rankings and it’s probably obvious who it is. Meanwhile, ahead of the Winter Classic on Saturday (or maybe Sunday depending on the weather), the two teams are heading ever so slightly in opposite directions in the Power Rankings. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 12

I warned you that I was going to do a gimmick edition of Power Rankings right before Christmas. This week, I look at the NHL’s Christmas wish lists. Every team wants something for Christmas but most deserve something completely different. We also have a new team on top of the rankings followed closely by their state rival. And a division rival of our top two teams finds its way back to last place. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Twas Three Days Til Christmas

Kicking things off is Doctor Who star Karen Gillan. Insert gratuitous finding her under my tree joke here.

Let’s start our pre-Christmas linkdump with a family story. Here’s a profile of Brian Burke and a look at how he coped with his late son coming out of the closet and later dying in a car crash. (GQ)

And back to the usual fare. Here’s a Christmas message from atheist Ricky Gervais about why he’s an atheist. (Wall Street Journal)

Drew Magary has his list of 10 things would be better off without. Happily, religion is at the top of the list. (Deadspin)

After the jump, the NHL on The Price is Right, the People vs. Superman and a video. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Classic Buildup

Always a classic is Jessica Alba who got sucked into appearing in that Little Fockers movie.

The big hockey story of the week is the premiere of HBO’s 24/7: The Road to the Winter Classic. Here are 12 of the big takeaways from the first show, including that Coach Boudreau swears more than me. (Bro Bible)

One of the more interesting parts of 24/7 was the locker room scenes which provided an unparalleled look at team strategy if you looked closely enough at the white boards. (Puck Daddy)

And to further promote the Winter Classic, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin and Jeremy Roenick went on The Price is Right. Sid and Ovi were as bad as you’d expect. (Washington Post)

After the jump, more hockey links, a look at Uncharted 3 and Paul McCartney live. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 11

Another week in the long, cold NHL season has come and gone. Not coming or going is the #1 team in the rankings. The Penguins’ winning streak ended at 12 games in a loss to the Philadelphia Flyers but they’re still the best team in the league right now. Mind you, none of the top three teams changed spots but I’m not convinced that the cream has risen to the top already. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Fall of the Dongslinger

It may be cold outside but Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge should warm up the freezing Canadian winter.

Here’s the sports media coup of the year. Fox leaves the cameras on overnight and catches the Metrodome roof collapse. Here’s the story behind the video. (USA Today)

Speaking of Favre related things, even though his streak ended, that isn’t the big Dongslinger story of the week. He could be facing a lawsuit from Jenn Sterger. (Pro Football Talk)

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a Christmas tree salesman in New York City? Probably not but this story of a tree-selling family is still a good read. (Los Angeles Times)

After the jump, scads of hockey links, the first gameplay footage of Uncharted 3, and the ultimate F1 2010 highlight package. Continue reading
