The Economics of March Madness (Infographic)

The Final Four of March Madness goes down on Saturday and the final is Monday night. The final will be the 67th game played in the NCAA Men’s Basketball championship tournament over the last three weeks from the first game of the First Four to the final game of the Final Four. Over that time, over $175 million worth of worker productivity was lost.

For more on the dollars and cents of March Madness, we have a handy infographic for you. Continue reading

The Perfect March Madness Bracket [Infographic]

March Madness kicks off tomorrow with the First Four play-in games. Whether you watch NCAA basketball or not, almost everyone fills out a bracket at this time of year for a pool with friends or coworkers. But when you lose to the girl who knows nothing, it shouldn’t come as a shock. The odds of filling out a perfect bracket is more than one in a number so large that you probably think it’s made up.

For that and more fun March Madness facts, we have a handy infographic after the jump. Continue reading

What Your Valentine’s Day Gift Says About Your Relationship (Infographic)

Today’s the big day. Well, it’s really just the big day for chocolate makers, jewellery stores, florists and restaurants who will steal your money so you don’t screw up your relationship because of a holiday they created. Anyway, most guys think that a nice meal, some chocolate and a dozen roses covers things. However, the gift you buy is actually a reflection of what state your relationship is at. If you’re still not sure what your gift says about your relationship, we have an infographic (written by a website trying to sell you gifts for your significant other, mind you) to help you sort it out. An Infographic About Steve’s Favourite Word: F*ck

I’m not sure I’d call it my favourite word but if you ask Jackie (or just about anyone else I know, for that matter), my most frequently used word is the classic F-bomb. It’s often considered just a profanity but it’s greatness comes from its versatility. It can mean many things, be used in many situations and be expressed in many different ways.

Today, I found an infographic on the meanings and history of the word “fuck.” For the sake of censorship, it’s after the jump. Continue reading

The Super Bowl and Beer (Infographic)

There aren’t many party days bigger than Super Bowl Sunday. There are big parties, vast quantities of food eaten and, of course, even more vast quantities of alcohol drunk. For the football fan, beer is the beverage of choice. Approximately 50 million cases of beer (for about 1,200,000,000 bottles/cans of beer) will be consumed on Sunday.

For a breakdown of what will be drunk and how much will be spent (among other interesting tidbits), we have an infographic about beer and the Super Bowl after the jump. Continue reading

The Nurburgring [Infographic]

The Nurburgring is a relic of motorsports long ago. It was christened “The Green Hell” by Sir Jackie Stewart who won there three times in eight Grands Prix, including his famous win in the rain and fog in 1968. The track is famous for its 21 kilometre, 150+ turn, Nordschlife (Northern Loop) Circuit which has claimed the life of 72 racing drivers as well as another three to twelve public driver each year. But it’s the danger and the history that are part of the allure of this legendary racing circuit.

After the jump is an infographic that gives you all the details on the world’s most famous and most demanding race tracks. Continue reading

Doctor Who Timeline (Infographic)

This year represents the 50th year of Doctor Who. The show debuted back in 1963 and the Doctor has gone on over 200 adventures with 46 different companions in 11 different incarnations. But have you ever wondered what the Doctor has been up to over the course of the last 49 years? This infographic is the best chronicle I’ve seen of all of the Doctor’s adventures. Continue reading

The Economics of College Bowl Games (Infographic)

Tonight is the BCS National Championship Game between the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide. It will be the first time under the BCS system that two teams that have faced each other in the regular season have done battle in the national championship game.

Why would the BCS replay a game that we’ve already seen and fell asleep watching? For the money. As the following infographic shows, there’s quite a bit of money to be made from bowl games. Continue reading

The Table of Alcohol (Infographic)

Depending on where you go to school, university and college students are back to class either this week or next following their winter breaks. Back at UWO, we used to call the first week back “Frost Week.” It was classes during the week and like a return to Frosh Week at night. Of course, any return to the grand days of Frosh Week means that a few drinks will be consumed to help you warm up on those cold winter nights.

That’s where this infographic comes in. It’s the periodic table of cocktails. If you want to know what’s mixed into various cocktails and how strong they are, the table has the answer for you. Continue reading

Holiday Drinking Facts (Infographic)

We all drink over the Christmas season. But for those of us who drink regularly anyway, is drinking at Christmas time any different than the usual? Fortunately, an English gin company has done a survey and put together an infographic about how people drink during the holidays. If Christmas doesn’t bring us all together, then alcohol will.
