F1 Canadian GP: Summer Blockbuster

While Hollywood comes out with movies that are action packed from start to finish and full of crashes and smashes, the Formula One circus decided to stage their own summer blockbuster in Montreal. The Canadian Grand Prix is always a wild affair but this year’s seemed crazier than usual. There was more action crammed into the first seven laps of the race than the first seven races of the season combined. Continue reading

Soccer Night In South Africa: Light The Scoreboard

It oynly took until the third day of competition for the scoring to get out of hand in one game. After a series of one- and two-goal games, we had our first massacre after some mismatches failed to materialize. However, the two African sides were in close games and hoping to give the local crowds something to cheer for. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Men of the Match

Kicking off today’s SLO is the Erin Andrews World Tour. EA may not have won Strictly Come Sequins but she’s winning the publicity war.

Normally, I would start with a World Cup link but this one is too good to pass up. Our boy Patrick “20 Cent” Kane had a little fun at the Blackhawks championship parade. It’s a good thing the cops weren’t handing out public intoxication tickets. (Deadspin)

And back to regular service. The biggest story after two days of the World Cup are the vuvuzelas. They’re those goddamn horns that won’t shut up. Maybe FIFA should step in now. (Dan Patrick Show)

Want to sound like you know more about soccer than you actually do? Here’s a glossary of eight terms to make you sound like you know something. (Sports Pickle)

After the jump, lots more World Cup links, a baseball manager goes insane, and people love their Hawks. Continue reading

Soccer Night In South Africa: Keeping It Close

Two lacklustre games on the first day of action at the 2010 World Cup gave way to three thrilling games on day two. Action got better as the day went along with the much anticipated game between England and the United States. But it wasn’t the strikers who were the stars of the games today but the goalkeepers who starred today. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Get Over Here!

Let’s do the time warp again! With a pair of 80s reboots, Hollywood has certainly hit its stride in creativity this weekend at the box office. While all the kids are lining up for The Karate Kid remake (which is suprisingly borderline fresh), the rest of us will take a look at The A-Team (which is borderline rotten). If the film has Jessica Biel in it, then it’s probably worth checking out. How bad could it be?

After the jump Darth Vader has mental health problems, Russell Brand has an interesting choice of films, The CW is desperate for attention, some Transformers stuff, Jeremy Roenick is a class act and some Mortal Kombat stuff to please most fanboys out there. Continue reading

Soccer Night In South Africa: It’s Time For Africa

After years of questioning if they could pull it off, the 2010 World Cup kicked off with a bang in South Africa. Well, “bang” is a relative term. After all, the two Group A matches that opened action in South Africa weren’t stellar displays of football. A pair of draws definitely can’t be considered a highlight when talking about the opening day of the World Cup but that was the only “action” they had. Continue reading

F1 Canadian GP Primer: Drivers and Teams

The Canadian Grand Prix weekend starts tomorrow morning with first practice. Yesterday, I examined all the rules and race strategies that have changed in the two years since the Formula One circus last swept through Montreal. Today, I look at the drivers and teams that will be contesting the 2010 Canadian GP and setting up storylines for the race. Continue reading

Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: The Drought Is Over

A moment of confusion quickly gave way to the biggest moment in a young player’s career. Patrick “20 Cent” Kane danced out from the corner and slid the puck under Michael Leighton but no one realized it except for him. The party was on hold for a moment as the play was briefly reviewed but in the end it was the Chicago Blackhawks lifting the Stanley Cup for the first time in 49 years. Continue reading

F1 Canadian GP Primer: Rules And Strategy

With Formula One’s Canadian Grand Prix taking place this weekend in Montreal, I’m going to catch Canadian race fans up on what will be happening at the track this weekend. The first of the two-part race primer will look at the rules of F1 and strategies employed by teams in the race. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Ready for Kickoff

I didn’t realize that the MTV Movie Awards were this weekend. On the plus side, it meant we got to see more of Katy Perry.

So your time at university is over and you’ve got a purty little diploma. What are you going now? Maybe you should take a year off. (Lion’s Den U)

Only in Philadelphia: A toddler drinks beer at the ball game. (The Fightins)

I’ve mentioned recently that my favourite recent discovery on Twitter is @BuzzBissinger. Want a look inside the mind of the foul-mouthed Pulitzer Prize winner? Click here douche juices. (Philadelphia Magazine) I’m probably using Buzz’s favourite new word wrong.

After the jump, we gear you up for the World Cup, Bernie Madoff’s a prison yard hero, and don’t mess with La Parka. Continue reading
