Wednesday Link-Off: The Big Game

It’s the middle of the week which must mean it’s time for another Wednesday Link-Off. Let’s kick off with Yvonne Strahovski. She’s not in Maxim because of Chuck though. A quality TV program like that is above their heads. That’s why those Maxim morons will spend Mondays at 10:00 watching something plotless with generic eye candy like The Playboy Club instead of a show with substance and a quality lead actress like Stana Katic in Castle. Alright, rant over. On with the links.

EA Sports’ NHL 12 is out this week. There’s all sorts of buzz about this year’s game because of the addition of the Winter Classic and the legends. But the story recently gaining traction is one girl’s letter which caused EA to add women as created players. (Globe and Mail)

Of course, like the last few NHL games, EA is really going for realism. For example, they have specific tweaks to the Be A GM mode for Canadian teams. (The Leafs Nation)

Deadspin founder Will Leitch (who probably hates being introduced as that) wrote a great piece on homosexuality and sports. (New York Magazine)

After the jump, Serena goes nuts again, SpongeBob rots your brain and George Lucas can’t stop screwing with the classics. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Benni Cinkle – Can You See Me Now

The musical wonder that is Rebecca Black is the gift that keeps on giving. First, we had Friday. Then, Good Morning America and Ark Music Factory tried to find out if they could make any random American teen a viral internet sensation. And then Rebecca was back with her second single which was an answer to critics which did more to prove them right than anything. And that brings us to now. Remember the girl in pink in the video for Friday who was kicking in the back seat cruising on the highway (fun, fun, think about fun)? Now she’s got her own song and music video. Her name is Benni Cinkle and her new song is apparently called Can You See Me Now. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Locked In

Welcome to the start of the 2011 NFL season. Of course, there are a few other things happening today. To kick things off, here’s Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader Stephanie Smith.

Let’s start off with some 9/11 themed links. An American reporter for Al Jazeera went to Texas for a 9/11 story. He got the sort of reaction that you’d expect from Texans. (Business Insider)

Michael Moore is a controversial man but he was never more controversial than at the 2003 Oscars. Here’s his story of his life after speaking out against the war in Iraq. (The Guardian)

Pulitzer Prize winning writer Buzz Bissinger breaks down the media whoring out the 9/11 anniversary to make a quick dollar. (Philadelphia Daily News)

After the jump, get ready for some football, lots of Harrison Ford and the return of DJ Steve Porter. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: So Contageous!

I’m back this week to write up the Entertainment Link-Off. I’m sure Steve is quite happy about not having to cover for me. Anyway, I missed the opportunity to plug Shark Night 3D last week, but given that it’s garnering negative reviews anyway, it’s probably a good thing that I didn’t. Anyway, in theatres this week is the MMA themed Warrior and there’s also the disease thriller Contagion, which happens to have Marion Cotillard in the cast.

After the jump, virus do crazy things to people in movies, X-Men continuity is messed up, the 5 stages of Star Wars revision grief, movies and video games are slowly dying and a few nifty ads to check out. Continue reading

OUA Gameday: Week 2

Today is the start of another season of OUA football action. Last year, we saw the season conclude with a final second field goal giving the Western Mustangs the Yates Cup at the hands of the Ottawa Gee-Gees. This year’s OUA battle looks to be wide-open but the picture will become a little clearer starting this afternoon with the first slate of OUA football games for 2011. Continue reading

Best of The Telegraph’s Sign Language (Part 6)

Every week, the website of British newspaper The Daily Telegraph runs a feature called Sign Language. In this, they run the funniest signs that their readers spotted around the world. Most are examples of signs getting lost in translation but others are just plain confusing or ironic. So as part of our continuing best of the interweb series, here are twenty of the best sign fails that Telegraph readers have come across in recent weeks. Continue reading

2011 NFL Week 1 Picks

The 2011 NFL Season opened yesterday and continues this weekend which is awesome for football fans and sad for baseball who will watch its attendance numbers dwindle as there are no exciting pennant races remaining and football is awesome! This season instead of trying to write something educated and brilliant for every game, I am going to limit it to the five games I feel most confident about (similar to the Hilton Super contest without putting thousands of dollars on the line) and then my picks for the rest of the games without any analysis. If that doesn’t make you happy then pretend that my analysis says; this quarterback is better than that quarterback!

In Order of feeling the best about! Home Team is in CAPS and line provided by www.sportsbook.com Continue reading

Man Lab Showdown: Lindsay Ellingson vs. Erin Heatherton

Today’s Man Lab Showdown takes us back to Victoria’s Secret again. In our July showdown, we had legendary Angels Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel. This time, we have two of Victoria’s Secrets new angels facing off in one of our epic showdowns. In one corner is Lindsay Ellingson. She’s Victoria’s Secret’s newest Angel, having signed in 2011, but has been with VS on and off since 2006. Erin Heatherton has been an Angel since 2010 but only been appearing for VS since 2008. These two are the new faces of Victoria’s Secret but which will be top dog after the old guard retires.

More photos and the poll after the jump. Continue reading

NFL Preseason Power Rankings

1. New England Patriots
Another year of Brady and Belichick. The Patriots look to rebound from a dismal playoff showing against the Jets. They have all the offensive tools to compete but their pass rush remains the biggest question. Despite that, they are my clear favourite to win the Super Bowl this year.

2. Green Bay Packers
Super Bowl Champions. It has a nice ring to it. The Packers don’t have a lot to prove but major injuries that were suffered last year to Ryan Grant and Jermichael Finley they should have enough fire to compete hard. If Aaron Rodgers wants to be considered elite with Brady and Manning, he needs another great year and with the weapons available to him, he should get to that level.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers enter this season on much better terms than last season. They have less serious scandals to deal with. The team is mostly the same that went to the Super Bowl last year and has signed the players that they needed to. Ben Roethlisberger should be better connected with his receivers so watch for a lot of pump fakes followed by the bomb to Mike Wallace. Not surprisingly the favourites to win the AFC North.
