Sunday Link-Off: Foreign Relations

emily-ratajkowski-nastygirl13-14It’s the end of the week which means that it’s time for the links. I’m starting to worry that I’m spreading myself a little thin since I’m struggling for ideas for posts. I’ll figure something out. I usually do.

For now, it’s time for the links. Since Blurred Lines has been declared the song of the summer, here’s Emily Ratajkowski who starred in that music video.

The GOP is so hell-bent on killing the Affordable Care Act that they’re threatening to shut down government to get rid of it. I think they’ve lost all touch with reality. (New York Magazine)

Old white men on news TV tend to be the worst. This includes Lawrence O’Donnell who you’d think wouldn’t be bad because he’s on MSNBC but he can be idiotic like the rest of the old white men on TV. (New Republic)

Sir Stephen Fry wrote a powerful letter to the IOC explaining why they shouldn’t just let Russia persecute homosexuals. (Gawker)

Entertainment Link-Off: Edge of the Earth

Lyndsy-Fonseca-Bello-2013_4This weekend marks the release of the comedy We Are the Millers and the sci-fi actioner Elysium. Good time to marathon some movies! Anyway, let’s start off the ELO with Lyndsy Fonseca this week. You can catch her on the CW series Nikita and occasionally see her pop up on How I Met Your Mother. She’ll also be appearing in Kick Ass 2, opening next week.

After the jump, Finding Dory is getting some quick edits, Americans are too dumb to understand a sci-fi action movie, Paranormal Activity is back with a vengeance, The Lone Ranger’s cast and crew blame the movie’s misfortunes on a certain group of people and watch Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars rant… animation style! Wednesday Link-Off: A Media Dynasty

constance-jablonski-hm13-05Middle of the week links time. No time to waste so let’s get to the links. Since I just finished working on my review of Remember Me, here’s French model Constance Jablonski.

You know why you shouldn’t name anything after sharks? Because the puns are too easy when you jump the shark. Right, Discovery Channel. (Discover Magazine)

The family dynasty at the Washington Post is done now that the paper has been sold to Amazon.com boss Jeffrey Bezos. (Washington Post)

And the sale of the Post to a dot-commer like Bezos should help with innovation in the traditional media without compromising the paper’s journalistic credibility. (The New Republic)

Sunday Link-Off: Law and Disorder

bridget-malcolm-victoriassecret-05It’s Sunday which means that it’s time for some links. I’ve dug up some news-ish links which includes a return of the Rob Ford crack tape story. I missed that story. Anyway, let’s start the day off with Australian model Bridget Malcolm.

Just when you thought that the Rob Ford crack tape scandal was over, it turns out that the police have the man selling the video and probably the video too. (Toronto Star)

Warren Kinsella says that the Toronto Police actually do have the Rob Ford crack video and it’s real. (Warren Kinsella)

In case you didn’t hear, Toronto Police shot a teenager with a knife on an empty streetcar nine times before tasering him. Not even slightly excessive force. (Vice)

Entertainment Link-Off: Show Me the Money

ronda-rousey-maxim13-03Jackie’s off this weekend and I’ve drawn in. As tends to be the case when I do the ELO, I don’t have any good new releases to talk about this weekend. Sure, Denzel’s got a new movie with Marky Mark but it doesn’t sound like 2 Guns is a great film. If you’d rather completely melt your brain out your ear, you can always check out The Smurfs 2. Poor NPH getting stuck with this.

Let’s start off today’s links with UFC Women’s champ and Ultimate Fighter coach Ronda Rousey.

Mitt Romney is quite insistent that he never said that 47% of the American population would vote for the President no matter what because they rely on government handouts. (Mother Jones)

One juror in the George Zimmerman trial explains how the jury arrived at their verdict. (Think Progress)

Here’s a story that could and should get big soon. Military doctors are misdiagnosing vets and causing them to lose all their benefits. (WTKR)

Sunday Link-Off: A Different Take

irina-shayk-gqrussia13-01Well, it looks like today will be a busy writing day for me. I have a Formula One post to write for tomorrow. There’s a gaming journalism column that’s probably going to be shorter than I’d like but I’ll try to do it well. Not to mention that I have a couple of reviews that I want up this week.

First, though, it’s time for me to put together the Sunday set of links. Let’s kick this one off with Irina Shayk.

Russia might be very much anti-homosexual but Patrick Burke, founder of You Can Play, says that Russia’s laws don’t mean that countries should punish their athletes by forcing a boycott of the Sochi Olympics. (BuzzFeed)

Bill O’Reilly is saying ridiculous things again. In other news, the sun rose this morning. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes used facts to explain why O’Reilly is wrong. (Mediaite)

Michael Malice takes a rare look inside North Korea and brings back real stories of the people there. (Reason)

Entertainment Link-Off: Blades of Glory

aubrey plazaIt looks like another big weekend for Marvel as Wolverine makes a triumphant return to the big screen in theatres. As counter-programming, you can also see Aubrey Plaza in the hilarious raunchy comedy The To-Do List.

After the jump, Marvel is outperforming DC at the movies, watch the impressive trailers for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, Peter Jackson just wrapped up The Hobbit, make your attempt to get another Dredd movie, watch Daria come to life in a faux trailer and check out some nifty cosplay at Comic Con. Wednesday Link-Off: Apart From the Royal Baby…

edita-vilkeviciute-victoriassecret13-14I don’t know if you heard but a royal baby was born on Monday. However, since it’s not really a news story and won’t affect 99.99% of us in any way, I won’t be mentioning it here. We have other news that you might have missed. First, though, we have Lithuanian model Edita Vilkeviciute.

Barack Obama might be America’s first black President but he identifies as a black American first. When he says that he could’ve been Trayvon Martin, it’s not hyperbole. (Washington Post)

In case you missed among non-stories, there was a massive breakout of Al Qaeda prisoners from Abu Ghraib prison. (Reuters)

Anthony Weiner is sexting again. This time, he used a pseudonym… Carlos Danger. (Post Politics)

Sunday Link-Off: In Profile

nina-agdal-leonisa13-15It’s the end of the week so it’s time for the links. While longer form pieces are a little bit harder to write about with none of the usual topics providing much to write about, it should pick up this week.

For now, let’s start the links with Nina Agdal.

Joe Biden might be the butt of many jokes but he just might be the most qualified man to be the next President of the United States. (GQ)

The cover might have been controversial but Rolling Stone magazine did a proper story with their profile of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. (Rolling Stone)

The EPA headquarters building has been named in honour of Bill Clinton. He’s certainly earned that one. (Washington Post)
