Worst of Music: Katy Perry – Last Friday Night

So what happens when one of the day’s top artists gets annoyed with the YouTube sensation. She releases one of the crap songs off the end of her album as a single so she can make a music video mocking said YouTube sensation. And that’s how we’ve ended up with Katy Perry’s song Last Friday Night as this week’s WoM winner. It may not be the worst song in the world this week. It just has the least care put into it to make it music. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Jason Aldean – Dirt Road Anthem

There was a surprise in this week’s Billboard Hot 100. The #9 song wasn’t a hip-hop or dance track. It was actually a country song. But this isn’t just a regular country song. It’s the nearly impossible to comprehend hybrid of twangy southern country and rap. I never thought it would happen but it has and it definitely shouldn’t have. This week’s WoM winning offender is Jason Aldean with Dirt Road Anthem. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Nicki Minaj – Super Bass

We’ve got a first-time WoM winner taking home the prize of this week’s Worst of Music. For the last few months, I keep hearing about this Nicki Minaj character and how she’s a good hip-hop artist and a looker to boot. This week, I discovered that both those statements are dangerous overstatements. As proof, I submit her WoM winning song Super Bass. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Tonje Langeteig – I Don’t Wanna Be A Crappy Housewife

It seems that the internet has been looking for the next Rebecca Black. While there are dozens of wanna-be YouTube artists who can’t sing but post crappy webcam videos of themselves, it takes that special someone to get a professional recording studio to produce a song and music video for them. And that brings us to this week’s Worst of Music winner. It’s a Norwegian housewife that you’ve never heard of before and you’ll never hear from again with a song called I Don’t Wanna Be A Crappy Housewife. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Rihanna – S&M (Live)

This week’s Worst of Music comes from the comments of last week’s WoM post. AbandonCulture nominated Rihanna’s S&M performance from the Billboard Music Awards last weekend for this week’s WoM. Now, I know we’ve already done S&M on the WoM before but this live performance is just a whole new barrel of laughs and AC brings up a good point in her nomination that made me rethink my initial assessment of this song. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Pitbull – Give Me Everything

Selecting a Worst of Music song this week might have been the most difficult task that the WoM award committee has faced. That’s because six of the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100 have already won the WoM and there was actually a good song on the list too. So of the remaining three, this week’s song comes from WoM standard-bearer Pitbull with his latest single called Give Me Everything. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Glee – Rolling in the Deep

Last week in the Lowdown Blog Man Lab, I dissected British singing sensation Adele. I mentioned that I wasn’t a fan but that didn’t mean I wished harm upon her. Unfortunately, last week on Glee, harm is what found her as the Glee cast got a hold of her #1 song Rolling in the Deep. The result is enough for us to call for the cancellation of Glee. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Jeremih – Down On Me

Normally, Worst of Music winners are people who I’ve heard of. But I guess that’s why I use the Billboard Hot 100 to help me find WoM winners. For example, I haven’t heard of Jeremih but apparently he’s good enough to get 50 Cent to feature on his latest single called Down on Me. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Katy Perry – Friday

I don’t like using live concert covers as the Worst of Music award winner but this time an exception has been earned. I’ve previously named Rebecca Black’s Friday as the Worst of Music. I even suggested that it could go down as one of the worst songs of 2011. Then I heard Katy Perry’s cover of Friday. Just when I thought that the original was a crime against music, this live cover comes along and takes the crown. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Rihanna & Britney Spears – S&M

How do you get a couple extra bucks out of a previously released single? Release a remix. But how to do you make more than a couple extra bucks? Get a formerly popular singer who traded largely on sex appeal to record some lines for the song and re-release it. That’s exactly the plan of attack behind the recent surge in popularity of Rihanna’s S&M. Take the song and add Britney Spears to give you this week’s Worst of Music. Continue reading
